So, for my Jazz Composition lessons my assignment was to write a chart for my old High School Jazz band.
Utter Debauchery (http://vimeo.com/22214214)
This is not them. This is the UNI Jazz Panthers, the band my comp. professor directs, and I play lead trombone in. He liked my chart enough to feature it (as our closer, no less!)
Unfortunately, it was late in the night and some chops were dying (at least mine were) so it's not completely perfect but there's plenty of debauchery to make up for it.
Opinions and the like?

Man, we need a mod up in here to move this clearly illegal post to the arts area. You ought to pay more attention to the rules, man.

I thought about it, but music is kinda nebulous as it's also media.

Very cool Fenris, and nice solo by the way, very dynamic, which matches the song. The bary solo was good as well. You can hear that everyone's chops are kinda down, yeah, but that solo section was long enough to give the trumpets a small break before their soli section. Extended blues form is also cool, and I think I heard a pyramid at the end, but like you said, everyone's chops were down, so we only could hear half of it. It's also cool that your band incorporates latin percs as well, I wish McGill would do that more often. I love your intro by the way, that dirty 12/8 feel is always awesome ;) The chords in your sendoff are cool as well, very crunchy. Also: your guys have a rhodes piano...you guys are lucky.
I've yet to write an actual big band original composition (I've been doing more arranging lately), so kudos to you :)

On the one hand, the recording is kind of ass.
On the other hand, decent Bari solo and I like the tune.

Ha. I suppose "dynamic" is a word to describe it. You have really good ears-your analysis is pretty spot on. The sendoff chords are just dominant #9's and a minor 11.
I didn't have a part for the conga player, since the school I wrote it for doesn't have more than one drummer/percussionist in the band, but he's got a good ear for rhythm and style. I think it added a lot to it.

Yeah, the recording's out of my hands but you can't exactly take an HD camera into the bar. The guy was doing me a huge favor by recording it for me since we haven't even met yet. (He's the father of one of the trumpet players in another band.)
And yeah, the saxes did really well on their solos-thanks for the compliment on the tune.
