So Kvothe is awesome. Also: Patrick Rothfuss. I finished The Name of the Wind the other day, and A Wise Man's Fear is waiting for me at the library.

Weirdly, Kvothe reminds me the most of Kerbouchard, the scholar hero of Louis L'Amour's The Walking Drum (an awesome historical fiction novel I recommend).

(Is it completely pronounced "Quothe", or does that only apply to the end of the word? I picture it being the soft V of the Russian language. Like nuclear wvessels.)

I also really like how the novel ties up all of its themes in its climax. That was artful. I will never be that good of a writer.

More thoughts here (http://www.foxedproductions.com/2011/05/name-of-king-by-patrick-rothfuss.html).

Kv + Quothe = Kvothe. (http://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2008/02/ask-author-4-how-do-i-pronounce-kvothes/) And that's straight from the author's mouth... err blog.

In regards to the books, I absolutely love them both. Normally I don't recommend the books I read to my friends (since I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi) but everyone I convinced to read The Name of the Wind loves it.

Now if you'll excuse me I still need to find a way to safely freeze myself until the third book comes out.

Been hearing a ton about this Rothfuss guy now that the second book came out. Not sure why we can never hear about authors maybe a month or two after the first book comes out but oh, well, saves me having to wait for the second one. I plan on reading these as soon as I finish the new Guy Gavriel Kay novel I just got (Under Heaven).

Also I have to give you uber-props for bringing up The Walking Drum, this is the first time I've run into anybody anywhere on the internet who brought up that novel. That novel was so damn great and I've never heard anyone else bring it up but me maybe once a long long time ago. If Kvothe is a similar character as Kerbouchard I'm guess The Name of the Wind is about a nomadic journey across a bunch of different fantastical cultures, then? I dunno much about the plot, I've been trying to avoid spoilers since I hear it so amazing.

The Walking Drum was traumatic because of the sequel hook... And the author's death. On the other hand, yeah, The Name of the Wind is focused on exploring several different cultures, but I mostly meant that Kvothe and Kerbouchard are cut from the same cloth: two cunning, scholarly heroes.
