Studio Gainax is better known for producing animes featuring well adjusted people such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL and Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Unlike all of the above, there are no giant robots in Princess Maker 2. I'm... I'm sorry.

Instead we'll be raising a little girl to the cruel and capricious whims of a forum in a game designed by Japan. Hooray!

Sending her to school, sending her to work, sending her off to fight monsters, sending her off to get married, possibly marrying her, that's what this game is all about.

Now let us find out about the story of this intrepid father and his daughter!


There once was a city in the world of mortals.

Its king was proud of his position, and its people were arrogant about their wealth.

Its rulers made light of the gods and ceased to worship them.

Its people sank into debauchery and sloth.

The Lord became angry at this and commanded the Prince of Darkness, ruler of the Underworld, to attack the world of mortals.

The soldiers of the capital, accustomed to peace (and debauchery and sloth I would assume), fell helplessly before the powerful Demon Army. The ramparts were destroyed and the castle was engulfed in flames.

It was clear to all that the fall of the kingdom was at hand.

But then, seeing the plight of the capital, a wandering swordsman threw himself into the battle against the Prince of Darkness.

Creeping into the demons' encampment on that dark night, the swordsman confronted the Prince of Darkness in single combat.

The swordsman didn't know how to respond.

The Prince of Darkness disappeared into the West along with his army, returning to the Underworld to recover from his defeat.

The king and the queen thanked the brave warrior and resolved to make a new beginning. They asked the swordsman to stay in the capital while he recovered from his wounds and help them rebuild.

And so the swordsman came to live in the capital, and to be granted a salary by the king.

A voice called out to him from the heavens...

As he lifted his head, he spotted a shooting star. Before his eyes, it slowly descended to the top of a nearby hill.

Meteor's started off reasonably strong in magic and pretty crappy fighting-wise.

She's also pretty decent in the social and household areas.

Her other strengths are her refinement, her charisma, her faith and her sensitivity.

Sensitivity is a bit of a mix between perceptiveness and girliness. Befriending unicorns and junk. Give a shout if you need any of Meteor's other abiltiies explained.

The reputations are areas of skill you can get known for. They're based off three other abilities

Fighter Reputation: How well renowned you are as a warrior. Fighter Skill, Attack and Defence all contribute towards it.

Magician Reputation: How well known you are as a great and terrible wizard. Magical Skill, Attack and Defence all contribute towards it.

Social Reputation: How much you float like a social butterfly and sting like a social bee. Decorum, Art and Conversation contribute to it.

Housework Reputation: Uh... yeah. It's basically for being a housewife. Cooking, Clean and Temperament contribute to it.

Every month we can assign three things for Meteor to do, each one takes up about ten days of the month. She gets Saturdays and Sundays off though.

First off we can pay for her to go to school.

The prices on these lessons are per day, so yeah, we don't have the cash to really look at doing it right now.

More on them once we have money!

Might as well mention now that a big source of income is winning the Harvest Festival contests in October. You can enter in the fighting, cooking, art or dance contest.

On to the jobs. That's pay per day, but jobs are much more stressful than lessons. If Meteor's stress gets too high, bad stuff happens like her dying and junk.

More jobs become available as Meteor grows older, but to summarise the current options:

Farm work will toughen Meteor up, but she'll turn into a bumpkin!

Babysitting is great for becoming more perceptive and maternal but is unsexy.

Housework will make Meteor good housewife material, but make her insensitive and unperceptive.

Helping out at the Church pays poorly but will make Meteor a better person.

Restraunt and Inn make Meteor better at cooking and cleaning respectively, but will make her even worse at fighting.

You can also send Meteor off on adventures. You can go to the forest, the lake, the glacier or the desert, in order of dangerness.

Meteor can't fight anything out there right now, obviously enough, but she could loot the chests if she's not eaten by monsters.

Finally, we can give Meteor some time off to relieve stress. There's free time around town, or you can go off on vacations, which are pricier.
