Just wanted to inform you that I once again got reminded that this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsiwtBbGC1M) is the only song that can make me shed tears.
Now, of course you are welcome to powerlink songs or whatever that do that for you, but they will most likely never be able to match this sincere, heartfelt instrumental composition. At least for me. And don't just name any song that made you a little sad in the head once. I want tears. I need them to fuel my doomsday device.
That is all.

It's pretty sad, but to me the saddest song is still Sorgliga Sånger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_dUuf6eunU) (Sad Songs). It tells the story of a little boy who lives in an idyllic home in the country where every day is full of joy. His mother bakes wonderful cinnabuns, his father is always punctual and always brings presents, he plays in the fields as much as he likes and the air is clean and the water is clean and he is not afraid or worried or anxious about anything. Everything is good, as good as it ever could be, he gets told over and over. Even when when he wakes up scared at night he can just take his medicine and go back to sleep. And for some reason he doesn't understand, the chorus comments, he still grows up to sing such sad songs.

I can't really say that these songs made me cry a lot, but they have filled me with immense emotional ''Illumination'' over the past years.
Jaco Pastorius-Portrait of Tracy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAzI8gkYua0)
I've listened to this song probably over 500 times in my life and I never get tired of it, everytime I find it so beautiful yet saddening. I guess it reminds me of moments of solitude I had in my own life. The choice of intervals he uses while playing, even if it's only a minor second appart, sounds wonderful. It just shows how much of a talented musician he was.
Gustav Holst-The Planets Suite-Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESARBMvPJ4M)
This is quite probably my most favorite piece of classical music, from the beginning to the end. The Tritone interval at the beginning really catches your attention right until the chorus of horns comes in as a lugubre, slow march, reminding us that one day, all of us will not be of this Earth anymore.

Not sure if you're really counting video game music, but something about England's peacetime theme in Civilization 5 ("I Vow to Thee, My Country (http://youtu.be/2WqGxVcAbXs)") touches me on a pretty deep level. To me it speaks to all the good aspects of human potential; the drive to explore and learn more about the world around us and how to use that knowledge to help others.

Why would anyone not count video game music? It's music just as much as Beethoven's or Chopin's compositions are. There's quite a lot of video game music that is absolutely brilliant. But sadly so few game makers really use the music to their game's benefit. It's mostly just to have some sound in the background. That's a problem with film music too, to a lesser extent. That doesn't mean the music is worth less than the rest. And there's plenty of stuff that can stand on its own too.
In fact, just ignore my little tangent and read this summary: Video game music is awesome.

My girlfriend can't listen to Morning in May from Broken Bride (http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Broken+Bride/42990467) without crying.

Gangster's Paradise (http://youtu.be/N6voHeEa3ig). This one prolly requires a bit of context, but it's a very powerful song in it's own right.
I helped run an overnight retreat about gangs/gang violence for high school students (Not necessarily "at risk" students, though we tried to recruit students from schools with particularly large "at risk" numbers). For the first couple hours of the retreat, half of the students were talking about how "gangs are bad and I'd never be in a gang" (The obvious straight-A students who joined because of the community outreach projects our group did), while the other half of students sat in the corner either looking disinterested or cracking jokes with their friends (These were the "at risk" kids).
Then one of the "at risk" kids completely broke down and started bawling. He hadn't even been planning to come tonight, but his brother had been pushing him to join their gang, and he came to our retreat to escape that, if only for another night. A couple other students admitted that they were here to escape similar situations, and almost instantly the retreat went from some a preachy spiel about how "Gangs are bad kids, mmmkay" to an honest and heartfelt discussion about the realities of gang life for quite a few of our students.
And now anytime I hear Gangster's Paradise, I start crying because it reminds me of this story.

No song has ever made me cry just on its own (How to Save A Life by The Fray (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw0wRfHjF5M) made me cry once, but that was 95% situation-dependent; I don't even like the song that much), but there are a bunch that make me seriously emotional in one direction or another.
Someone Like You by Adele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAc83CF8Ejk&feature=player_detailpage#t=65s) is sort of hit-or-miss for me; some versions are terrible, but others (like the one I linked) completely hit home. My guess is that it's the closest a song has ever come, on its own, to bringing me to tears. The chorus is pretty much perfect.
I know a Civ 5 song has already been mentioned, but the menu song from Civ 4 (Baba Yetu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A)) just makes me grin like an idiot every time I hear it. I actually stopped playing the expansions because they replaced this theme in Warlords. Sad, I know.
