Is it still possible to embed youtube clips into a post if so how would I go about doing that?

Also I notice some people have avatars larger than the 100x100 pixel limit is there a revised limit and is the text saying the limit is 100x100 wrong?

Nope (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=18865)

Check who those folks are. Chances are they aren't your average user / had help (e.g. Snake).

Would users appreciate an option to embed YouTube clips? I think links work well enough personally but I am willing to make a modification I 'spose.

Phil. Ouch.

Also, embedded clips don't play until you hit play and have the title over them usually, so that would actually help avoiding things like... THAT.

THAT SAID, I couldn't care either way. I think Fifth made a tag for that at some point that is probably gone now. Just like I made one for embedding music for this thread (http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=30331&highlight=west) (whose images I have apparently also moved or deleted).

Neither really needs to come back (and mine definitely shouldn't as it would be ripe for abuse), but the embedding thing I could go either way on.

I love embedded videos. I mean, I often accidentally click Youtube links because I forget to check the URL and then have to close the Tab, because fuck, it's a video someone thinks is funny and/or topical and I know beforehand, I know I wont care especially if it's a TF2 video and the characters break into song halfway through and sing Never Gonna Give you Up or something.

Nonono, allow video embeds, in fact, make them mandatory. that way I can't accidentally click youtube links. Because I'll never ever interrupt the music I'm listening to for your clip from Dr. Horrible's sing along blog which I want to see even less with every video I see.

Yes, I would quite like the ability to embed youtube clips for what little that is worth of all the features I could request thats the one i want the most. (there aren't any other features I can think of to request though)

This would make browsing the Internet Crap thread so much easier since I wouldn't have to deal with vaguely described YouTube links.

Embedding videos would be great, yeah. Convenient, no more vague descriptions (except from youtube itself) etc.

Alright I will give it a look-see then. Shouldn't be too difficult.

This means it's going to take me upwards of 90 days, folks. But it will happen eventually.

Hey Shiney is it possible for you to increase the maximum number of posts displayed on a single page beyond 40? Mafia game threads and RPG game threads would certainly benefit from the ability to search through them with out having to flick through 20+ pages.

Flarecobra

Wouldn't that require modification of the base code or something?

YouTube BB code: just a simple tag addition in the admin panel (https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/199304-How-To-Make-a-YouTube-BB-Code)

Likewise, the max posts per page is a setting the admins can set in the options for thread display settings.

No backend code needs touched. :)

Yea i'd sell my soul to be able to read 80+ posts in a single page I mean like ideally the ability to see entire threads on a single page would be pretty sweet on Mafia game threads but 80 posts per page would be pretty awesome

Requesting max posts per page be reduced to 5.

entire threads on a single page
Oh wow you would not want to click the picture thread.

So, will payment be pre- or postmortal for that?

Good to know a video tag is that simple. Don't quite like that it's specifically for youtube, but if I find some time I might tinker with that, maybe it can be made more universal.

PostMortal obviously. I can't risk influence to my actions whilst alive from you holding on it, we can place it in freehold until i die.

Edit: weeeee 80 posts a page. Thanks mods you all totally rad.

I hear you on this part, but I'd wager the slight nuances in video hosts' implementation of their videos makes it unlikely that one vBulletin tag can be made to embed any of them. I haven't looked at the embed options of, say, Viddler or Blip, however, so perhaps it is entirely possible for us to whip up a generalized one that just takes a video URL or, more correctly, the embed source.

As Aldurin recently found out, there's a way to make embedded videos play automatically. Please don't do that outside of a specific thread, thanks.

This includes any cases where it'd be totally funny, where this song would fit this thread so well, or where you just had to try it after reading Meister's post not to do it.

e: apparently that was fifth but still

If you make videos play automatically I think we will have to intervene from an administrative standpoint vis-a-vis timeouts.

Perhaps this might benefit from a forum-wide Announcement, just to make sure people get the memo?

Please do... It's a pain in the arse when YT vids are playing automatically and clashing with each other.

Yes, I agree. I've been tinkering with Firefox to get it to stop autoplaying to no avail, so I don't know what music I'm going to be assaulted with when I click on a thread. Don't really care for how humorous it is, I don't need to hear Rebecca Black, thanks. The autoplay instantly decreases how humorous it is.

Flarecobra

I'm in complete agreement. Especally when I hit "Stop" and it decides to self-play again.

rpgdemon
10-17-2011, 05:00 PM
Can you just disable the autoplay?

I can't think of when it'd be useful. Like, I can only think of abusive reasons for it to exist.
