First and foremost: I don't think it'll be an issue but if sign-ups get to an overwhelming number I will limit the number of people who can join because this will -not- be a PvP RP.

Secondly: Title isn't that great I know but I wanted to get started on this and its short and to the point so I'm going with it for now.

Setting: The year is 1999. Our great and noble country is the Democracy of Marieca. Technology has reached previously unheard of levels, especially for war. There is growing concern over the coming year, kept to rumors of course, about the end of the world. A completely baseless belief that technology would entirely fail during the following year. Well at least it started as a rumor.

A new group of fanatics has emerged in the past few months, inciting the discontents and believers that they knew what the coming year held and how to prepare. They are united under someone who's only been known as The Oracle of Machines. We've never seen this oracle, only heard of their charisma, conviction and supposed precognitive powers. The Oracle is being hailed as a savior and is gathering a following faster than anyone predicted. And now the fanatics have taken to the streets, arming themselves from god knows where and even gathering men and women from our own ranks. Everything we've come to build is collapsing into chaos. And that's where you all come in.

Whether bought, voluntary or otherwise recruited, your here to join the 25th Mechanized Brigade. You've no doubt heard of the brigade. It has a reputation for killing off its recruits faster than we can bring them in. We only accept those with potential, those who begin gifted and who end as either corpses or the absolute best. You all know how to pilot your mechs. Now you get a trial by fire. Everyone here is your ally. Someone you must come to trust implicitly with your life. For they will have to save it. Just as you will have to save theirs. We'll supply you with weapons and standard ammo as well as repair facilities and upgrades whenever we can. You supply us with victory. Now get some rest all of you. Your first mission begins tomorrow at 0800.

Name:
Age:
Description: (Height, rough weight, skin color, eye color, hair length and color. A rough idea of how your character holds themselves. Do they sulk and shuffle or keep an arrogant strut, looking all in the eye and waiting for a challenger?)
Backstory: (Post here what you want. If there's something you feel I should know but the others shouldn't PM it to me -at any time- even if its multiple missions in. If your like me you need to see how your character reacts to situations to decide what exactly made them do that.)
Mech Design: Detailed description. I want height, color, design. I'd also accept pictures but they are not necessary, especially if you can't draw.

Statistics and Specialties all down here.

If you have any questions or clarifications ask away. I'll be approving each applicant who meets the requirements up until I feel the group has reached a maximum (not too concerned about that yet).

Name: Lee "The Wizard" Atrejo
Age: 21
Description: 5'7" 120lbs, pale brown skin and dark brown eyes that stare through grey tinted glasses. Jet black hair trimmed short and cropped. Hie demeanor seems mildly distracted nearly all the time, eyes staring off at all the minor details in his surroundings trying to attach a note to them to keep them in his memory, he is ultimately distant but kind. When he opens up his focus behind his console he revels in it like a god, and brims with an infallible confidence..
Backstory: A born and bred child of Marieca, he was early on sent by his family into a military school where he excelled in his classes but was known to have a lackluster military bearing. He advanced into the academy and was well on his way to being a comms officer but felt himself terribly bored and forced his way into the mech pilots course and became a registered pilot with a specialty in electronic warfare. He recently found his way into the 25th, showing himself to the frontlines against the so called Oracle of Machines. He deems to show these foolish rebels how little their savior can protect them
Mech Design: Called lovingly by Lee as the codename Merlin, it is a bipedal humanoid mech built for speed and maneuverability. It has a streamlined appearance, attempting to have no right angles both for a lack of air resistance and reduced radar footprint, the feet with extendable blade style wheels for properly paved roads and wields a rather large weighted rod. He typically has it repainted to suit his combat environment for a mission, co opting it with its obvious speed and energy output to make him an incredibly difficult individual to track on the field. It isn't made for direct combat, more for hit and run tactics and to serve as a battle platform for Lee's electronic warfare programs.

Overcast, quick question in regards to your specialties, uhm.
Remember those groups? Combat, Industry and Logistics? Well now they're important. If you add the two stats in each group you'll end up with total scores so from Example A: Combat: 4, Industry: 7, Logistics: 7. You get to choose a specialty related to each group when your totals are 3,7,12,18. . . etc. So for Example A here I'd get 1 combat, 2 industry and 2 logistics specialties. Below will be a list of specialties that I've compiled that by no means is exhaustive of all the possibilities (and I welcome any suggestions to help flesh out your character in the direction you want to go.)

If I've interpreted this correctly, wouldn't your totals be 4 combat, 4 industry and 10 logistics? Giving you 1, 1 and 2 specialties respectively? Or did I misread something?

I will however post a character portrait.
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n10/Megaman765/Marcus.jpg

Name:Josiah "Fatman" Alexanders
Age: 42
Description: Josiah is past the prime of his life although there are still inklings of his past. He moves slowly enough, walking with a slight limp that he tries to offset with a metal cane made out of an old rusted hydraulic cylinder. His hair was brown in his youth but is starting to achieve more of a salt and pepper look, although his goatee has resisted the recoloration of age. His nickname comes from the considerable paunch he's allowed himself to grow. It should not be confused however with weakness, something he is always happy to point out by walloping someone with his cane.
Backstory: Josiah has been working with Mechs since he was a child, first as an apprentice to an engineer, then as an engineer himself, and then finally as a private consultant. His consulting firm has hit a stretch of bad luck lately which he attributes to the decreased interest in mechs of the sort he can provide as a private citizen. And the fact that it got firebombed by those damn Oracle hippies. He aims to climb into his own mech and show those hippies what for.
Mech Design: Vera, as Josiah calls his old warhorse, is a tauric mech built for stability and capacity over speed and agility. It has heavy armor plating and is built heavily out of salvage, lending it a piecemeal appearance at times. It tends to sit low to the ground, resting between it's four legs to give the cockpit a little more cushion against oncoming attacks. For those of you familiar with DND imagine a drider in blue platemail that likes to shoot at you from beneath a cage of his own legs. Vera is painted Blue

Stats don't check out, bio covers what I need. Overcast is almost approved.

Editted here and I'll repost it below: Overcast you have 1 additional stat point in your mech unless I'm horrible at math. Breakdown below.

1 point in payload (gives you a payload of 2)
0 points in armor (first 1 is free)
4 points in speed (plus the free 1)
2 points in generator output (plus the free 1)
2 points in Back-up systems

Name: Gerald "ArchChaos" Baridon
Age: 15
Description: Standing at roughly 5' 6'', and weighing 150 pounds, he doesn't draw much attention to himself and is almost constantly preoccupied with a hand held civilian computing device, leaving him constantly hunched over and rarely making eye contact during conversation.
Backstory: Not much is known about his early past, but the government has been able to form a general theory based on fragmented information. Mother was Marian Baridon, always single. When Gerald was 2 years old it is recorded that Marian was murdered, though those records were recently tampered with and some police from the area say it was a suicide. Gerald began bouncing around foster homes until age 7, when he ran away and almost completely disappeared off the radar. For the next couple years, a child of matching age and description using the alias "ArchChaos" surfaced at various video gaming tournaments, often taking the grand prize and then disappearing completely. At age 11, the local mafia of a major metropolitan area recruited him for his skill with remotely controlled programs, piloting certain "mini-mechs" stolen from the black market for certain jobs. During this time numerous civilian databases in the area were regularly breached and searched by an unknown hacker, believed to be Gerald as the search keywords indicated that he was looking for a "killer" to blame for his mother's death. When he was 14, the military made an official assault against mafia group after a high-profile politician was assassinated by them. At the far end of their hideout, Gerald was found at a single computer terminal, clearly attempting to override the command computer that was providing intel to the squad, but becoming frustrated with the structure of military programming. The squad leader recommended giving him the military mech pilot test after seeing the backlog from the computer that Gerald was using to control the mini-mechs, and he ended up scoring in the top 5% of passing individuals. He has recently finished training with his customized mech, and is very capable with a few strategies around mech functions, though he is still mostly confused by military-grade computers.
Mech description: While built with a standard mech chassis, various pieces of of armor and hydraulics that weren't even supposed to be available to black op mechanics are included, granting it a higher level of resistance and load-bearing capability. The mech is also designed toward balance and stability, in order to make sniping easier for Gerald. The decal uses a special experimental paint that can change between several different colors after long enough exposure to that kind of environment (light brown in the desert, gray/black in urban environments and a dark green in jungles), one of many items believed to have been obtained through black market contacts and reserved tournament winnings. The cockpit is made smaller to fit him better, and some agents believe he uses the extra space as a contraband compartment.

Turrets don't currently require payload at this time just due to their high stat requirement to effectively utilize. Looks good though so your almost approved.

Edit: Aldurin Sniper Rifles ended up bumped up to 5 payload.

Overcast check my previous post. You have an additional point to place in mech stats unless I misread something or am terrible at the numbers. Or possibly you just meant 2 points in payload.

Geminex
02-01-2012, 03:12 PM
Didn't we agree on sniper rifle weight being 6, though? It's a heavy support weapon, it shouldn't be lighter than an assault rifle.

DanteFalcon
02-01-2012, 03:19 PM
So I'd probably make it an encumberance of 5 for both of them. And bump the sniper rifle up to 5 or 6. 5 Is probably better if you're taking ammunition into consideration.

I ended up going with 5 and if it needs tweaking later we'll tweak it. That and its not a giant game-breaking risk. 5 payload is still enough that people aren't gonna use one and 50 billion other weapons, but it doesn't require a large point sink so its still accessible. If it needs to be upped one later we can do that but a lot of the first mission will be figuring things out and resolving what needs to be resolved.

Albeit I apparently did miss the point though cause I'm DEEERP and that you'd need a payload of 7 to use dual pistols and a rifle.

Geminex
02-01-2012, 03:49 PM
Well fair enough. My reasoning was that, since armor is a big investment, weapons capable of countering armor should be an investment as well. But yeah, 5 or 6 doesn't really make a difference.

The only reason I mentioned it is that Earl has his sniper rifle weighing 4, which isn't right either way.

New Industry specialty being added to the list, posting it here. Note that all bio's can be changed to remove or add new specialties until the game actually begins even if approved, just let me know if you change one. Discuss, let me know if you have any concerns.

Power Reroute: Power fluctuates through the mech to different parts of the body, improving its physical capabilities as they are used. Melee and Movement mainly. This comes at the cost of making the Mech weaker to EMP as if it was 1 generator lower.

Menarker also created an edupad for use which I'll be adding to my signature shortly.

Name: Gilroy Easton
Age: 29
Description: 6'1, 155 lbs, skin color, Dark brown eyes. See above for general idea of facial structure. An arrogant and proud demeanor with a cruel expression to anyone who would try to give him shit or contradict him.
Backstory: Gilroy is a self assured and proud elite, raised under his father Roy who was extremely wealthy and influencial among powerful men for his supply of mining and metal-smelting facilities but had no patience for "human rights" or the "enlightened intellectuals" that sought to give power to the lazy and shiftless majority. For many years, he raised Gilroy in masculine activities, especially those of vehicles and weapons, those industries being his proudest patrons of his entire metal industry. The son grew to be slowly on par with Roy's arrogance, although his interests and growth all pleased the aged father, who rewarded him frequently with extravagant gifts. Gilroy knew all too well that his father was continuing his ambition through him, but that didn't bother him at all. For that matter, the degree of power that he controlled just by using his father's name enthralled him as he all too easily grasped for power and prestige wherever it could be grasped.
When the war started and giant humanoid mecha became employed as weapons of combat, Gilroy demanded of his own father for a mech of his own. Roy became fearful for the first in ages, and agreed only if Gilroy would pilot one of his own choosing. One which inevitably was packaged with large armor and high evasive and defensive capabilities to safeguard his own progeny. Hopefully he'll grow tired of the war and the dangerous and tedious hard work like a dull fad...

Sharpened Spikes (mace): +1 armor penetration.
Electromagnetic propulsor (mace): Can magnetically propel the mace to double the damage done for one attack per round, but reduces the actions available to 1 next turn.
Reactive Magnetism (shield): Upon heavy contact (an attack with the shield) the opponents weaponry is temporarily magnetized to the shield (with some exceptions; edged melee weapons and flamethrower off hand) causing the target to lose 1 action the following round. Due to the nature of the attack focusing more on the weapon and being a shield bash there is a chance the attack will do no damage.

-MISC Upgrade-
Jumpjets2: Use in combination with a move action. Move distance is multiplied by 1.5, before speed modifier. Terrain does not affect you. Alternately, move 100 metres of vertical movement. Using jumpjets counts as 'moving at an angle' for accuracy calculation. System uses 2 slots (comes with 1 charge), every additional charge of fuel costs another slot. Each jump consumes one charge.

Photosensitive paint: Decreased chance of visual spotting by enemies, as well as -1 enemy accuracy at high range.

Personal Statement of Reasons to Join:
My greetings come to you, head of the........................................, my name is Alice Moriya and I will be applying for the military siege. Everyone is required to join in this time of crisis, but this application is to get a more unique position. This will be mutually beneficial to all parties involved, so I see little reason to decline other than formalities. Thus,............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...................... And now, for something a little more formal, open, and regular.
I began my military training at the age of 14, and I outright joined military operations two years later. Thus, my current experience with regulations and standard is extreme. And I have performed admirably in this field. I fully admit that I have never been good at direct combat, but a look at the credentials will tell you that I am all good to go for any serious situation that requires it. I will not go into exacting detail here, but I will simply cite my records {LINK BROKEN}.

I have both personal and professional reasons thus to request a transfer to the operations of the 25th. As you well know I helped compose these operations and while I wasn't involved in the finer details, the general missions and layout of the format is customized for maximum efficiency. I will send back reports on how the missions are going, and I will not die until the time is right. I know that there are consequences if I do right now, and I have a personal preference to stay alive as long as possible. Although I know that I will need to die eventually, that can wait for when this is all ending.

Thus, I hope that my transfer is approved, and I look forward to working with all of the other soldiers. Please send me their work profiles for examination, and of course, do not show this to anybody. Critical information and all.

I would like to join this game, making my character now.

Edit: making my character with Cabal and Gem.

I would like to suggest moving Mobility from industry to a combat specialty. A combat pilot is going to push equipment to the brink far more than an engineer would want to do so.

Aaand here's my backstory!
Cabal, Sif and myself are making characters that stem from the empire of Varus, an allied nation that's sending a relief force to help you guys. Our characters have known each other for 8 years, so it's time to show you guys how it's done. And bitch about your horrible tactics. And spy on your technology.

------

Name: Hauptmann Manuel Remseck
Age: 29
Description: 175 cm, 180 pounds, close-cropped, black hair, styled in a pratical buzzcut, dark skin. Very formal and by-the-book when on duty, reflected by his stern, tight-lipped expression. His pale blue eyes normally have a calculating look to them, not quite a thosand-yard stare, but they definitely give the impression of being somewhere else. Until he focuses on you, that is, and his gaze becomes piercing, probing. Muscular in a lean, sinewy way. His stance is usually proud and upright, not quite agressive, but definitely confident. When he's off-duty, or with friend's, he's generally much more easygoing and relaxed, and his stance reflects it.

Backstory: Manuel is part of an expeditionary force, graciously sent to Marecia by it's larger neighbor and ally, Varus to assist in its stabilization. Despite being only a small force, the Varan Expeditionary Force (VEF) includes many experienced officers and pilots, and Remseck is no exception. Growing up in a middle-class family, Remseck recieved a scholarship to earn a degree in mechanized engineering. He succeeded academically, and gained a keen interest in his country's military culture and history. He was accepted into the Varan Officer's academy, and, after another one-year course, emerged with a master's degree of mechanized combat engineering, the rank of first lieutenant, and two close friends. Having been part of the same squad during training, they stayed together when they were deployed to the First Varian Mech, a heavy, mobile division consisting of mounted infantry with heavy mech support. They spent an 8-year tour of duty in the country's west, protecting the Varan coasts and engaged in heavy fighting during a 3-week border skirmish with the Empire of Clarens. Varus ended up gaining a nice chunk of territory, and Manuel got his first glimpse of real battle. He and his squad found they had a taste for it, and, when their tour completed a few months later, they signed up again, this time with the rank of captain and new, customized mechs.

Despite being fairly easygoing, and sometimes even casual, when at home (he was well-known for the occasional prank) he finds it hard to adapt to new social situations, and this, combined with a very formal upbringing, results in him clinging tightly to military ettiquette now that he's in Marecia. He also feels the urge to set an example to the undisciplined mob of mech pilot's that they're expected to fight alongside.

When among friends, or in the throes of combat, he becomes less inhibited, though, and strict discipline is replaced by wit and informal practicality. He's a very calculating individual and will try to think all his actions through, but does let passion get the better of him a lot of the time. Fiercely patriotic, with a keen interest in history and tactics, as well as the technology that he studies, but a tendency to get distracted by routine or repetitive tasks.

Mech Design: A small mech that's faster and stronger than it looks, scuttling across the battlefield. The mech is around 30 feet in height, a 4-legged design that has the bulk of the mech below the leg joints. Cockpit and arms, as well as engineering tools are mounted in the top half, while the lower half stores sensors, com, and the generator powerin the mech. It's pained a nondescript gray, normally, though the maintanance gear includes respray kits for improved camouflagee. The rounded design and internal ammo stores greatly diminish improve radar cross section.

Created this nearly entirely out of boredom. If you're already full, no hard feelings or nuthin', just something I was in'erested in.

Name: Anatasia "Ana" Ruukstein
Age: 26
Description: Anatasia stands at 5' 5", weighs 117 pounds, has red-brown hair and blue eyes. She has an average build and, due to her upbringing and strict father and grandfather, constantly dresses prim and proper in both civilian clothes and military uniform. Her mech is the Longinus Stridetank Mk III which she drives while Tristam, a fine-boned averagely handsome man operates the weaponry and Priscilla, a dark-blue haired servant of Anatasia's family, constantly monitors the Longinus's status and readouts.
Backstory: Until recently, Anatasia always wondered why she was ever born with the gift of free will, and not a day passes that she doesn't curse her own life and fate. Apparently, her father Julius never wanted her to enjoy life and her mother Alflora was far too submissive. Constantly bullied by her father who was disappointed that she was born as a girl to begin with, Anatasia was raised with firm, unfair guidance and undue harsh abuse the moment she stepped out of line or even just whimpered.

The moment Anatasia was able to enter the military, she eagerly pursued it, mainly because it allowed her to get away from Julius who was only trying to impress his own father, a retired high ranking officer named Killian. She was certain that her father was more intent on just having Ana married off to some self-important asshole with political and noble influence, anyways. Studying her ass off, Anatasia scored high enough that she was selected to enter active duty as the driver for the Longinus Stridetank MK III. This was perhaps the only victory she ever claimed over her father, seeing as how he was never chosen for the honor of piloting the very armored tank his own father did.

What made this event all the sweeter was that Anatasia had finally gotten to meet her grandfather Killian. Julius never introduced the two together because he was so ashamed of having what he believed was an unworthy daughter, but Anatasia and Killian warmed up to each other quickly. Much to Anatasia's joy, Killian detested his douchebag of a son. To Killian's telling, all the money Julius has and even being married to Alflora was all to Killian's own credit, but apparently the bastard got his rocks off more on making people miserable. Anatasia wouldn't have minded dying on the battlefield since it meant she wouldn't have to go home anymore, but after meeting her grandfather finally, she now carries on with a sense of pride and determination, intent on making Killian proud by piloting the same mech he did with honor and distinction. For him, and of course, for the other two members of the three unit crew.

Anatasia's personality has become a lot more aggressive since then. She has a more positive outlook on life and is openly opposed to her father's whims, often embarrassing him in front of his friends during those rare moments that the two interact, the stories of which entertain her grandfather immensely.

Not so much an upright mech as it is a heavily armored four-legged tank, the Longinus Stridetank Mk III stands roughly 20 feet tall, 40 feet wide with the legs bent at right angles, and 40 feet long. It is painted an irridescent teal with black stripes lined with violet, making it stand out quite a bit. Nearly all weaponry, electronics, and other machinery not inside the tank is mounted on the top. The tank has a crew of three: Anatasia drives while Tristam mans the guns and Priscilla constantly monitors the tank's various readouts.

Alas currently full AB. If someone drops I'll send you a PM with an invitation. I'll be approving your post tomorrow Gem (Saturday the 4th).

Edit: New specialty similar to Mobility in combat named Reflexive Movement. Editting it into the Specialty list so its full description is there. There are some differences to make it unique but if your combat focused and can't get Mobility this is very similar.

A few more questions.

First, turrets. What're they armed with?

Second, when talking about damage, you said mechs could take several hits. Care to specify? If not, could I offer a suggestion?

Armor provides protection from various classes of weapon. But when armor is breached, I don't think there should be a huge discrepancy in damage. My suggestion would be that each point of backup would be able to "absorb" one point of damage. Whereas one point is the equivalnt of one seconds' worth of attacks from each weapon.

Basically, if your armor is susceptible to the SMG, you'd take roughly one point of damage for every 6 smg rounds you get hit with. For the assault rifle, you'd take one point for every two rounds you get hit with. For the sniper rifle and battle rifle one round.

At less than 50 metres, shotguns should probably do double damage to lightly armored mechs, and I'm thinking that the heavy machine gun should always do double damage.

When a mech isn't immune to a calibre, but it's ineffective (like the assault rifle against 4-armor mechs, or the battle rifle against 2-armor mechs), I'm thinking half damage would be appropriate. Also thinking that pistols should always do half damage.

I'm not sure how you want to handle the effects, exactly, but my suggestion would be that the mech's functionality is decreased by a little every time they take a point of damage. How is up to them, it can be anything from decreased speed to aim that's slightly off. When they've taken as much damage as they have backup, the mech becomes disabled, losing a major part of its functionality, like weapons systems or mobility. They're not dead yet, but it'll take a lot of creativity to continue fighting. They can still get repaired when they're disabled.

Once they're disabled, they can take their backup's worth in damage again, before they become destroyed.

This doesn't have to be a strict measure, by any means, but it'd be good to have a rough guideline re: how many times can we all afford to get shot.

Gem is approved.

Turrets are Machine Guns but of a weaker variety than the ones you guys tote. They'll still shred anyone who thinks they can walk into it, just not stray bullets to kill everyone ever.

That works roughly for damage. Because of the freestyle nature that's a good baseline but circumstances can mess that whole thing up. And Weapon Specialties.

Edit: Relm is approved. Slowly putting together the first post.

Name:Hauptmann Karl Von Kriger

Age:31

Description: 5'8 200lbs Karl has a very broad build and walks with with a dignified poise inspite of his prosthetic leg. He has short black hair, brown eyes and lightly tanned skin

Background: Karl Von Kriger has been a member in the armed forces of Varus for more than 13 years. Intially serving in the infantry forces it would be 6 years before he fought in the battle for besacon valley one of the most important conflicts in the Varus-Civean war. The mission was a simple one the execution was anything but, the goal was to capture a secret production facility working on cutting edge technology for mechanoid battle tanks. Three wings of M.B.Ts and just under a thousand men all fighting to capture a single facility. The intensity of the battle was unbelivable and the ammount of ammunition expended uncountable. The mission was a success the facility taken it's secrets plundered and taken, that didn't change the fact that only a single mech wing made it out unscathed and less than half of the infantry forces involved survived. A year passed before Karl recovered from his wounds and learnt to use his new prosthetic leg. Testing into the Mech Academy after the battle was the only way for him to continue to fight for his country. It has been many years since Karl has graduated the academy, serving in the 25th mech brigade with his fellow mech warriors even so he hasn't forgotten his days on the ground as an infantry man.

Name: Hauptmann Frederich Raven
Age: 27
Description: 186 cm, 77Kg, white skin, blue eyes and black military cut. Raven had a privileged upbringing and often comes across as arrogant. But his heart burns only for the Empire. He places a great value on rank, but is not above fraternizing with those beneath him. As long as they show respect. He places more value on a rank earned than inherited. Also enjoys fine cigarettes.

Backstory: Frederich is the youngest son of the second cousin of the Duke of Ravensburg, a major military family. Frederich has been in boarding schools and military academies since he could talk. He is well versed in history and battle strategy. His status and skill got him placed in the First Mech division, The Furor Varus. It was then he was paired with two young officers that he became very attached to, Karl von Kriger and Manuel Remseck.

Inspired by the older days, he requested a fully custom mech from his family. This mech was modeled after the knights of old.

During the fight with Clarens, the First Mech Division was named the Furor Varus by the Clarens for their ferocity and tenacity in battle. In some battles they claimed to have taken no loses. After the war, many nations preferred peace. The Empire has turned away from war and more towards keeping the peace. Raven and his squad were chosen in the interests for keeping stability in Marecia. It is an assignment he hates because of the lack of organization of the land. But he will serve with honor and distinction.

Also: I'll do small responses on occasion but expect most responses to be handled with story posts which I aim to get out twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday). Should give people ample time to respond with hectic lives without making them read 2 pages of WHY IS EVERYONE POSTING AT ONCE!

Okay, two quick questions.

First, how do turret deployments work?

Second, what're the effects of jamming? Cause what overcast can apparently do is quite marvelous, but seems a bit much for just one speciality.

Edit: Like, can it mask and simulate signals as well as block enemy radar? Because from the 'specialties' description, it doesn't seem that way.

DanteFalcon
02-08-2012, 02:54 PM
Turrets take 1 full round of emplacement and building to activate. No moving and setting one up. They do take some time to place down and activate, hence the time requirement.

Jamming jams -everyone's- scanners in range, forcing everyone to rely on visual and manual targetting. Scanners -will not work- for a while, for both mechs and turrets (time variable based on specialties and abilities). Turrets can still be used manually as well but can't auto-target.

Geminex
02-08-2012, 03:06 PM
Okay, cool. How long is a round? In terms of seconds? Roughly? Something like 3?

DanteFalcon
02-08-2012, 06:22 PM
Somewhere in the 3-10 second range. I know that's extremely vague but 3 second actions will make combat absuuuuuuuuurdly slow. I like to give my players some liberty for creative impulses.

Edit: Post to come this afternoon. I get a close to 3 hour break between classes and it isn't worth it to come home because travel times kill that break. It might be a little rushed depending on how good my writing is during that time period but it will be done.

Aldurin
02-10-2012, 12:58 AM
Quick question on the functionality of turrets. When deployed and manipulated, does the player in control need a sightline to the turret to properly aim it, or is there something like a video feed or directional indicator on radar that allows for aiming turrets that are out of the line of sight?

DanteFalcon
02-10-2012, 01:00 AM
At this point in time you do need a sight line.

Aldurin
02-10-2012, 01:03 AM
New plan, place the turret, run behind cover and hold down the fire and "turn left" buttons.

But that system for the turret actually seems reasonable at this time.

CABAL49
02-10-2012, 04:05 AM

DanteFalcon
02-10-2012, 10:48 AM
Now would be good. Partially giving the okay to something Aldurin mentioned which is for every 2 points in economy you get an additional ammo type. I only give that partial okay because there's another part I didn't mention that needs to be more thoroughly examined before I say yes.

For people who need the list of ammo and upgrades its in the pad linked in my signature. I'll condense it into a post at somepoint.

Also for everyone getting upgrades bear in mind that any of them are subject to change at this point. I've given my tentative approval but I haven't yet gone through and compared them to everything I have available or looked at all of them with a microscope. Your free to take them and I'll offer to let you change it if I take away one or nerf it to a state you no longer want it, but they are not fully approved at this point in time.

Edit: As soon as you do your first combat post I assume that your 100% set on your core mechanics (not including upgrades due to reasons stated above). If that is not the case then talk to me ASAP if you need anything clarified. I don't want to hear in 2 weeks that you didn't know how such and such worked and you feel cheated as that will only annoy me.
