I give you the trailer to Iron Sky

I am interested in going to see this indie production. The trailer was pretty awesome. Anyone else interested in paying to go see this one?

Pretty sure President Palin v. Space Nazis is going to be a day one viewing for me.

Effects look pretty great for an indie production, is this going to get a nationwide release? Even Moon was in my local theater for a week (but only a week; I barely managed to see it and had to go on a Tuesday).

The IMDB page for Iron Sky only lists release dates for Finland and UK on the 4th of april and Germany on the 5th of april.

Oh and aparrently the budget is over 7M, so guess that makes it not so indie anymore. It is a smaller production though.

Hmm, well maybe it will be like El Mariachi back in the day and some studio will pick it up for wider release.

Propably if it does well enough.

It seems like it should--it's already in English and it's about space nazis.

They could just like call Paul Verhoeven and be like "HEY YOU KNOW THAT MOVIE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO MAKE? WELL WE MADE IT. CAN YOU HELP US GET INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION AND WE CAN LIKE, PUT 'PAUL VERHOVEN PRESENTS' IN FRONT OF IT LIKE TARANTINO DOES FOR RANDOM KUNG-FU AND HORROR MOVIES?"

Dude. It has Nazis... IN SPACE. Of course I'm going to see it. By which I mean I'll say I went to see it and then just unscrupulously obtain a copy for private viewing at a later date.

Yeah and if they'd only targeted it towards European audiences they migh not have had as much focus on the US as the trailer would seem to indicate. Of course, it depends a bit on how the Americans are portrayed I guess.

Yes we Finns had to use this idea for a movie. I mean after all the Norwegians already used Nazi Zombies in Dead Snow. (Which was awesome btw.)

I plan to buy some patriotic garb just for this. I will organize the rest of the American exchange students.

But the movie is Finnish! You should buy a Finnish flag.

I really just wish they'd make a live action take on The Legend of Koizumi instead.

You realise fighting fictional space nazis doesn't make up for your rampant actual helping the nazis.

No man, you've got it all wrong. We were just playing the game man, we didn't actually ally with Nazi Germany just like sort of.

They'd need CG Rendering for the Super Aryan.

I'd say Finnish alliance with Nazi Germany was mostly about throwing back the Soviet invaders who honestly had no reason to be there. Finland would probably have stayed neutral if the Soviets (who were the ones allied with the Nazis at the time) hadn't invaded them. Then eventually they had to fight the Nazis themselves, too, so I'd say it was mostly about survival. Actually kind of Byzantine how they played those two superpowers against each other for so long.

But no one liked the Byzantines either.

WWII is actually known as three linked conflicts in Finland. The Winter War 1939-1940, The Continuation War 1941-1944 and the Lapland War 1944-1945. The last one know as such because almost all German troops in Finland were situated in the north. The conflict started on friendly terms at first: Finnish commanders would let the German commanders know the exact time of when Finnish troops were going to march in and reclaim the area and the German troops would be gone before then, most of the time. This was until the Soviet Union pressured Finland by stating that if things wouldn't speed up they'd be forced to send their own troops to assist. After that it became all out war and the Germans burned most of the towns and villages they left behind.

Actually kind of Byzantine how they played those two superpowers against each other for so long.
This is partly true, but like there was no mastermind plan. The situation changed and Finland had to change accordingly. We weren't exactly in a position to influence anyone much.

Feels a little like cowboys and aliens minus the taking itself seriously that everyone said ruined cowboys and aliens.

I kept expecting to see a Hitler clone or half-cyborg Hitler or something. I feel like the concept of Space Nazis is incomplete without something like that.

It seems the movie got a positive reception at the Berlin premier. So far so good.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Well they may want to avoid such a cliche--but then again that's kind of the point of satire so he may show up anyway.

I am not hating on either the game or the player. That no one liked the Byzantines is an immutable fact that I am stating for the record.

If anyone liked the Byzantines they'd still be around.

Envy, plain and simple. Flamethrowers, chariot races and badass architecture. Even the Ottomans were like "shit, this Hagia Sophia is way better than our crap...let's just paste geometric patterns over these astonishing mosaics these artful bastards have put up. We'll say it's because of the idols. Yeah that'll trick everybody."
