I saw Wicked a couple nights ago. I've already been listening to the original soundtrack but it was a really fun show. A little ad-libbing and show-stealing from the performer who played Glinda, and some really really good singing.

I have a kind of funny story about the night too. So the show is not explicitly political but it addresses some good social concepts (it's essentially a slightly more complicated 'don't judge a book by it's cover' kind of story). During one of the songs is a narrative about how the Wizard is basically kind of a huckster and that he made a bunch of empty promises to the citizens of Oz. During this the gentleman seated behind me loudly "whispers" to his wife:

"Psh. OBAMA."

And that's pretty much why I made this thread!

Been there, done that. (nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=32716&)

However, the list still applies: go see Spamalot for "Diva's Lament," sung here by the chick what played Alyx in the Half Life series. Also check out "Lancelot" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onKu000HRHs) and "Finland." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmBlUb2dcsk)

*Note that it's meant to be over-played:

Spring Awakening is a play that sounds terrible - life in a school in 1800's Germany where kids are... acknowledging hormones, but it's told well and the music is... well...

Also check out "All That's Known" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72_NTMiJGFs) "Mama Who Bore Me." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jJHCtQYpYE)

The other one I'll recommend is Urine Town. ...It's beyond description:

If you're looking for rentals, I'd go for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Repo: The Genetic Opera.

I think we all know the real reason Nique went to see Wicked... (http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/400590/wicked-subtext)

I hate you because that content is not available in Canada.

Also, the only reason I went to see Wicked is because I was forced. I was in New York, and me folks wanted to do something, so we did the Broadway thing.

Also, the mechanical head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0atKUyMp6I) was pretty rad.

This scene never fails to impress me no matter how often I watch it.

That reminds me - I've heard Book of Mormon is really funny and good so I might go see that!

Yeah, it looks pretty kickass but from what I understand it's sold out for like the next 6 months. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlbDHejQFV4)

We need to do an NPF musical, but we will need a theme . . .

Wait, scratch that. Repo was really, really weird. Like, Sarah Brightman holo eyes weird. And Paris Hiltons face falling off weird.

And there were like, two good songs.

Anthony Stewart Head was awesome, though.

I want to see either the play or the film just because of this song and after reading the story behind it.

I'd love to watch this one musical... "Rock of Ages".

It's all about 80s hair metal. And they play the music live.
