Are these as rare as they seem to me to be or am I just not in the know?
I know there's a couple animes with like western style dragons but you don't see no like robot falkors fighting each other ever, I can't imagine a single reason why that isn't a thing.

Heh, the idea sounds good. I'd imagine it just doesn't come to mind easily since it is the combination of one of the epitome of fantasy (dragons) and combining it with the core of futuristic mechanical setting, the robots. They are quite on two different spectrums which also exist on two completely different and seemingly incompatible time periods (dragons in the past and technology in the future, unless you're sporting to argue about alien technology or ancient lost tech that is better than what is currently available.)

I think Eastern dragons are benevolent godlike beings, so making a robot of one is saying to the enemy you want to hug the shit out of them.

No, a robot bear is what you make to hug the shit out of someone.

Bears are threatening though.
If you make a bear robot people won't hug it, they'll run away from it.

Shenron Gundam had eastern style dragons for arms. Does that count?

No, because eastern style dragons are just flying snakes with four T-Rex arms, while Tolkein* dragons are the rest of the Tyrannosaur, but with actual arms, wings, and fire breath.

Well, western dragons are also just very large and physically powerful creatures that breath fire while Eastern dragons are godlike beings with control over the weather. If we're talking about what one can do to the other then it's breathing fire versus summoning up tornados and hurricanes.
Also I think I remember something about certain ones being depicted as being large enough to cover the entirety of the sky by curling backward and foreward.
In conclusion my favorite dragon would eat your favorite dragon.

The reason is cause falkor was shit. Rockbiter was the happening place.
And like what good was falkor against the nothing. A western dragon would have like set that shit on fire.

Falkor was fucking awesome. He doesn't even need to fuck you up because the moment you think about hurting him his good luck fucks you up for him.
also maybe I'm remembering something else but I thought Falkor totally could breath fire?

Not that I remember. But maybe I'm wrong.
Did Falkor have his own music video? Rockbiter did.

I think there was one in one of the many Gundam series once.
edit: I think there were also, like, cyber-steroids or something.

Dragon Gundam from "Mobile Fighter G Gundam" is what you're thinking of.
Though it's the only dragon themed mobile suit in that series.
There's also Escaflowne, that's pretty rad too. Least I remember it being pretty rad.
EDIT: never mind that's western based.
Yeah they seem to be a rare thing.
Hmm... I wonder if...

GaoGaiGar had an evil particle accelerator turn into a dragonish thing one episode. Does that count?

Dragon Gundam wasn't a dragon, but it had dragons for arms.
Escaflowne wasn't a dragon, but it was powered by a gem harvested from a slain western dragon.
And Falkor was pretty sweet. Didn't even need fire breath to hold his ground with Ygramul The Many. And what's this about a rockbiter? He was only in chapter 1, and he got to the city last of all four of the messengers. The Tiny with the racing snail was where it was at, among those four. Though, I will admit that Pyoncrachzark is a pretty sweet name.

Books are for nerds.

A movie that either takes place in a book, or centers on a dude reading said book isn't very far up on the nerd vs coolkid spectrum either.

People who spent their time plotting out spectrums of nerd vs cool- also nerds.
