So you've just had a shitty day. You're driving home from work, feeling terrible about everything, playing your iPod/mp3 player/mixtape?/cd of choice for the ride home... and then you hear it. That one song that makes everything better.

Life is suddenly awesome again.

Everyone has them: Those songs in your playlist that automatically make you happy, no matter how terrible your day has been. Songs that make it almost IMPOSSIBLE not to smile when you hear them. Even if the rest of the world thinks your happy-song is terrible--who cares?! IT IS YOUR HAPPY SONG DAMMIT.

This is the thread to share those songs and talk about why you love them.

Here are some of mine:

CARAVAN PALACE: CLASH
As soon as the male lead vocal starts up, it's impossible for me not to grin. This song is bubbly yet classy, and sounds like it needs a movie to go along with it.

THE AQUABATS!: SUPER RAD!
Yes, yes, it's incredibly nineties-sounding. And it's one of those songs that you probably won't like the first time you hear it, but slowly takes over your brain the next few times you inevitably listen to it until you love it. But I dare you to sing along and NOT feel better about everything when the song ends. Also the official music video is pretty WTF/Hilarious.

ASH: TRUE LOVE 1980
This is one of those songs that I can't really describe why I like it so much. It's not like the greatest song in the world or anything. But it's also one of those songs that I'm compelled to sing out loud at the top of my lungs in the car whenever it comes up on my iTunes playlist, and it makes me smile. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO DIS-COV-ER, SOMETHING THAAAAAAT WILL LAST FOR-EV-ER!

ASH: ARCADIA
Another one I can't really explain why I like. My sister once said that it's physically impossible for a human being to dislike this song, even if they hate everything else Ash has ever done. I'm sure someone here will prove her wrong, but the theory has held up pretty well with everyone she's introduced the song to.

If it wasn't for the slightly overweight green bear, dancing in his underwear, this song would be great.

I'm kind of upset that I don't have sound right now and can't hate this.

I looked forward to the song improving or ending, and only the latter happened. BAM. Theory disproven, washed away into the vast netherpool of pseudoscience. May the Notion of Ash's Arcadia's Supernatural Properties find rest in that abyss, and make little baby hypotheses with its newfound friends alchemy and physiognomy.

These make me some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcX8Gj6D6s4&hd=1) kind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAyADMSppaw&hd=1) of (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gYyLmBr5nk&hd=1) happy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1zqKE-M0j4&hd=1).

Gamma Ray - Time to Break Free (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PVmjzLbEa0)

in a non-metal vein:
Queen - Friends Will Be Friends (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImFc5bOEWl8)
Streetlight Manifesto - A Better Place, A Better Time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2yeNzL7rTU) has accompanied me through rough times.

O Teatro Mágico - 22-11 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHNbruMZcM4) Don't worry, it's just an instrumental.

And in a smiling to yourself vein:

Hm. I looked through all of my music and I don't think I have anything that fits the criteria!

I have songs that aren't associated with any particular mood (majority), songs for being sad, peaceful-sleepytime music, and songs for beautiful aching melancholy tinged with hope (my favorite). I guess for me, happiness isn't usually so much of a pumped up joyful feeling as it is a deep peaceful contentment?

Anyways, this the epitome of that for me:

I want this song played at my funeral.

Happiness here is mostly from my own nostalgia, but you have to admit, it's a nice upbeat tune.

I've been thinking about this since the thread began, and I'm still not sure about my answer.

I like music that makes me feel. The more pure and powerful emotions the better. Solemn, chilling awe or heartbreaking sadness or warm fluffy comfort even stark uncomfortable stress (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5S0dkLZoTg); longing or satisfaction, it doesn't matter much.

YjQFlAmcgXI
This is one example of a song that succeeds in creating a sensation of tumbling, tumultous life and love rushing by too fast, something barely comprehensible yet hugely important, while also rocking like a motherfucker.

It may or may not make me happy.

This here's a song about not being able to be anyone but yourself, from a show about a bunch of people who aren't able to be anything but themselves.
