No surprise here. I've made it clear before I am a Moonie and Sailor Moon wasn't just my first Magical Girl, she was my first anime altogether. Granted, anime sucks compared to the manga but Sailor Moon is still badass.

Lina Inverse from Slayers! The Natural Enemy of All Who Live. Usually the worst solution to a problem and she does it with style and humor. ^_^ Not to mention everyone who has tried to kill her has failed only to get their butts kicked.

Nanoha Takamachi, Fate T. Harloawn, and Hayate Yagami. Yep, I got into Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and this series could define the idea of Gundams in skirts. Each of these girls alone could produce attacks that would make the guys on DBZ crap themselves...and they were doing it at the age of 8-9!

In the three years I've watched it (I say this to concede that I have no illusions about being a poser fan in the eyes of many), Precure has gone from being the best time of the week to meh to the best time of the week plus rock-paper-scissors. I have praised the current series as "Ultra Happy Smile Sunny Peace March Beauty Time" with an exclamation mark elsewhere on these forums. I'm a fan.

If I wanted to pretend that I have good taste in Magical Girl Anime (assuming one accepts such a thing as possible), I would name-drop Princess Tutu here, but I cannot claim good taste in anything and also I didn't finish it because drinking was more important to me at the time.

Also, like many, Sailor Moon combined with DBZ led me to this miserable state of mostly watching cartoons from our important ally.

Not a big magical girl person, but I did like Madoka (I like Shaft in general, that had something to do with it) and all peoples are required by anime law to like Cardcaptor Sakura.

Princess Tutu is pretty good. Cliche motivations that slowly change over the course of the series and her evil rival has Erik Satie's Gymnopedie no. 1 as a theme.

My favorite will always be the girls from Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akahori_Gedou_Hour_Rabuge). Love Pheromone is a duo of High Science is Equivalent to Magic girls on a mission to fight crime while also trying to aspire to a successful career in Japanese Duet Comedy. Gedou Otome Tai is a team of five sisters, who enter a contract with a demon to avenge their parent's deaths at the hands of the forces of good and sow discord and reap terror upon the world of man.

Both are incredibly good at what they do, but neither are particularly successful.

I am also fond of Gum from Jet Set Radio, because as Guitar Vader says, "She's a magical girl."

The only other magical girl series I ever recall having any exposure to is the crap WB dub of Cardcaptor Sakura. I need to find a place to catch the original series sometime.
