Seriously... this Trailer totally looks like a commercial for several different things depending on how you look at it

wArmHSPIvlQ

But it totally looks like something more sober and serious than any previous Superman movie... i'm not sure how to feel about it just yet...

The trailer, i guess, was supposed to make me feel inspired and hopeful about a humane story of superman... So i'm not really expecting Super Kickass brawling.

Although i WAS expecting that with superman returns and came back from it pretty disappointed with the whole thing...

In the theater I honestly thought this was a trailer for a 3D rerelease of The Perfect Storm until it said Zack Snyder.

My thought process was like, "Man, people must really like Ben Affleck movies for them to bring this shit back. But why not Armageddon?"

EDIT:

BTW I preferred the Kevin Costner/Jonathan Kent version. This is the Russel Crow/Jor-El version.

As for it being hopeful/humane he's apparently going to fight General Zod in it so I expect this trailer to be about as accurate as the Dark Knight Rises trailers...

They do seem to be going for a Batman Begins-type origin story, though, probably, where a goodly portion of the film is given over to the development of his moral compass...

why do they keep doing origin story movies of headliner heroes like batman or superman.

these fuckers are cultural goddamn landmarks. I fucking dare you to find someone paying for a superman ticket who doesn't already know superman's origin. It is an unnecessary waste of runtime.

I disagree as long as this origin involves him training with ninjas.

What they should do is mimic All-Star Superman (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EKHo9ueu0gI/TVte8AAITLI/AAAAAAAAAco/9sYaRs9ENbE/s1600/all%2Bstar%2Bsuperman%2B_1%2Borigins.jpg) and do the origin in four shots and eight words. Could probably be done in less than three seconds without feeling rushed.

Superman is one of the five most famous people in the history of the planet. I think they can trust us to fill in the friggin blanks.

i don't think it's going to be a origin story... to me it looks a bit more like a "We all know who this guy is, so let's pretend he is on Retirement and Zod forces him back" story

I mean, the little boy from Kansas grows and goes to work on a fishing boat in the artic regions? That smells like Existential crisis to me...

At least no "Super Rape Baby" in this movie...

Bells, it's an origin story. C'mon man, we have the internet at our disposal. You could do a modicum of research before making a claim.

Magus

Yeah, it's like Begins, he wanders the world looking for meaning in being a superhuman alien, works on a fishing boat, trains with ninjas journalists?, etc. Eventually realizes he should punch General Zod in the face and according to a recent story about the movie "use steel girders like throwing stars".

From what i've read about i wasn't sure if it was conclusive... Like, i wasn't sure if at the beginning of the Movie he would already had been Superman on the past or something like that... guess not then.

Yeah unlike Returns they wanted to make this a full reboot, not in the same continuity as past films. And hopefully with a Lex Luthor that is a little closer to the modern comic books...although the villain has been confirmed to be Zod, so I guess they will save Luthor for the second movie (kind of like the Nolan Batman movies saved Batman's archnemesis for the sequel).

So...

Almost no chance of Kevin Spacey being Lex in this, right?

:(

I don't think Kevin Spacey will ever do it again. When they do do Lex, I hope he is more of an actual villain instead of comic relief like in the first two movies. Kevin Spacey was on the right track right there at the end of Returns when he flipped out and started beating Superman to death after stabbing him with the kryptonite dagger. And before that he kind of maintained that cold calculating thing too, but I think he should have acted a little more smug. Lex Luthor has to be pretty smug in my mind.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa you said Do Do.

the IMDB pages shows that there is no lex at all in this movie and that they will show Clark at ages 9 and 13, probably just small tidbits early in the movie...

I just hope they don't wast half the movie establishing who superman is... anybody going into that movie has got to know pretty much the basic rundown of the character by now...

But Hollywood takes such pleasure in crushing our hopes for that! You know they will totally spend the first hour with the origin and the second half with the battle with Zod.

To be honest I think it looks promising- there are two ways to actually make a superman movie- either make it about someone who isn't superman dealin with superman- or make it about superman as a man- ie a drama and its looks like they are going the second shitter route which is shitter but stll got to better than all the other superman movies which were wacky wacky chang chang.

So we're pretty much going to get Superman Begins.

The real question actually is if THIS will be DC's shot at starting the push for a Justice League movie.

Why is he hitchhiking? He can run faster than any human vehicle and can fly. He's been able to do this since young adulthood. It makes no sense.

Probably ties back into the crisis of identity issue. That and in the modern day with modern surveillance technology he'd be a lot easier to spot.

Probably ties back into the crisis of identity issue. That and in the modern day with modern surveillance technology he'd be a lot easier to spot.

Given that the canon reason why no one mistakes Clark Kent for Superman is because he subtly vibrates, you would then have to wonder how no one with a surveillance camera figures out his identity. And he can still fly out of range of most surveillance. Even if a satellite managed to pick him up, chances are they won't see his face.

Plus if this is the DC Universe (as in, more than 1 hero in the movie verse) we can all just assume Batman has a Intel network devoted to protect Heroes Identities with a metric ton of Forgeries and planted fake seeds of information.

Is that seriously the dumb reason they came up with? That's too bad. I always enjoyed the subtle humor of him putting on eye glasses and suddenly being unrecognizable as Superman.

So this means now that Superman has pretty much every power, right? Like before now the vibration thing was the one thing the Flash had that Superman didn't, but now Superman can do that too.

I guess he still can't read minds. OR CAN HE

I don't know if he can vibrate through walls like I think I remember Flash being able to do. It's more like the superpower of motion blur.

I always liked the "social Camouflage" version wherein he made sure to carry himself so outstanding drastically different as Kent that people "just couldn't see it" Also, the "power of motion blur" thing actually was a Flash power used by the Classic flash for exactly the same purpose.

He can wipe your memory with a kiss and Fly the planet in reverse to turn back time.

I always interpreted that second thing as him flying faster than light and the planet going backwards was a visual representation of him going back in time.

Also people always say this means he let a bunch of people die to save Lois, but actually if he went back in time to save Lois then presumably his past-self was also over there saving those folks concurrently.

Of course the only paradox is that if Lois was saved he wouldn't have gone back in time. And the fact that he flew faster than light. And that he shoots laser beams out of his eyes.

I liked the narration in the trailer that talked about what Supes stands for (but who's talking to him? Pa Kent?. Among other things, it's, like, the exact opposite of what Luthor thinks Superman is.

There are two versions of people talking to him, one is Kal-El (Russel Crowe), the other is Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner)
