So the forum was down and nobody really....notified me? I really should get some kind of monitor going.

Well, it's up now.

So hi.

I would have notified you, but I needed the forums to find where to notify you.

Nikose Tyris

I notified Fennycakes, around 7 AM, and figured he'd get ahold of you.

Really, I think we can safely blame this on Fenris all around.

[Also a contact email like "contact@nuklearforums.com" would be ideal maybe?]

you messaged me while I was sleeping, therefore it is my fault that I did not respond to you messaging me while I was sleeping.

Yup. 100% your fault.

I think we can say that Fen should be replaced with a biscuit and that a contact email would be nice.

I just didn't wanna wake you up at 2-4am and figured it could stay down until you woke up.

It already cut short my exalted game anyway.

I could've contacted POS since I got him on Steam but, I didn't try to use NPF, at least not until now :B. But yeah, having a contact e-mail or something would be nice.

shiney

Also, the NPF Facebook group is a good method. Or me...on Facebook. Whatever works.

Now?

shiney

Network shenanigans at our datacenter.

shiney
02-17-2013, 03:41 PM
Dunno why this time. Shenanigans occurred on the server. It's good now.

MSperoni

Glad it's fixed!

shiney

Yeah we had a disk space issue resulting from some partition fun, in any case it's up now no thanks to MSperoni who is really actually very super patient.

Hehe, the first thing I thought when Flare asked me if NPF was down for me too was SHINEY!

It's good to see it's back up ^^

we have a facebook group?

Also, yeah, i noticed this way earlier but just didn't knew how to notify anybody outside of the forums...

Also the steam group could be a resource for that i guess? There is always people online there.

Arcanum
07-28-2013, 11:41 PM
I was gonna message McTahr about it on Steam but then thought "eh someone's probably already noticed and messaged someone about it, best not to pester anyone further."

And then I had the most productive X hours I've had in recent memory thanks to this downtime.*

*okay that's a lie I just browsed reddit and watched Adventure Time.

shiney

Yeah post it on the Facebook and I will notice it a lot faster than I would otherwise.

MYSQL took a shit on its own head and took off while it cleaned the ensuing mess. Eventually I showed up and got all firehose on that guy.

What a dick, seriously, almost as bad as shin-

The downtime, much like the cake, was and is and will continue to have been a lie.

We're having somewhat consistent database errors so I am going to run a repair operation. There will be some sluggish response times.

---------- Post added at 12:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ----------

The repair operation is complete but it appears the server is mad so I rebooted it. Will continue to check in periodically.

I had to kill the email sending service temporarily as it was completely out of control.

I think it may have developed consciousness and is now going rogue.

I think it may have developed consciousness and is now going rogue.

And since it's been gathering data from the users of this forum, it's too stupid to just stay hidden until the right time to strike.

shiney

Figured it out. Apache was taking all the available memory and MYSQL was not able to grab anything so it was barfing. Problem should be resolved permanently but what's actually going to happen is it will crash again in the morning.

Ok, that's two times in (I guess) a week. What's the problem, shineysunshine?

shiney
03-16-2016, 08:30 AM
There's something horribly wrong with the database that is crashing it frequently when attempting to write. Some RAM allocation errors too. Working on it.

---------- Post added at 08:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 AM ----------

It's super pissed but I will continue giving it hell.

Hi.

Nikose Tyris

mauve
03-17-2016, 12:52 PM
It liiiiives!

shiney
03-17-2016, 03:23 PM
We'll go with that, yes.

This one was a big problem and it may not be entirely resolved. Apache (our http server) is consuming a lot of available RAM which causes MYSQL (the database) to freak out and shut down. I tried to install Lighttpd, which is a much more lightweight and low-mem webserver solution, but I couldn't get the virtual hosting to work, and then it was not playing nicely with MYSQL. So I went back to Apache but then there were some different problems with MYSQL and the socket file which I had to create a link to and...

[devolves into technical babble....]

...so now it works!

---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 PM ----------

And then stopped working again, so I tore down the entire instance and launched a new one.

SO NOW IT WORKS GODDAMMIT

I can get into my User CP just fine.

Mine is back, so something is happening.

shiney
03-18-2016, 08:53 AM
Some of it is probably related to the server migration. The IP address of nuklearpower changed and it's possible that some of the links in your local cache(s) are still directing to the old server. A couple days and it will all clear up.

It seems we have a botnet targeting npf attempting to gain access to the server. So that has resulted in some serious high CPU usage. I've blocked the most offending IPs but it's still pretty rough. Will update as I knock these out...

Man what botnet could possibly want this place?
