There is... a bunch of random stuff actually, nothing that captured my eyes, but i might pick a couple of stuff around at random just to check it out if i just happen to stumble on it.

If the Magi anime is anything like the hilarious manga, that one will be something special to watch.

I really want to be excited about Jojo's Bizarre Adventures the Animation but I can not get over the worry that it will end up being incredibly terrible.

edit- wait is that a fucking Mass Effect anime movie

seriously

I expect Sword Art Online to continue this season. Maybe I'll watch Aoi Sekai no Chuusin de because videogame parodies.

Also, I'll finally watch Evangelion as the last two movies are supposed to come out at the same time!

This. In addition to Robotics;Notes even though I am pretty sure it will be nowhere near as good as Steins;Gate.

Whoa. A new Hayate The Combat Butler? One that sounds like an FMA: Brotherhood situation?

Yes please.

Also: Tales of Symphonia: Sekai Tougou Hen.

Far as I know, that means "World Unification Chapter". Which to me either means "the last act of the game", or "the second game (which takes place in a unified world)". I haven't actually seen the second set of episodes; how far did they get in the plot in the Tethe'alla Chapter?

phil_

Oh goodness supercell is doing the music for Woozer! I was already watching that for Miyano, but that's a bonus.

Also Hi-da-ma-ri~

Also Hayate because Hata did the storyboards, Shin Sekai Yori because novel but not light novel, Aoi Sekai because I honestly didn't believe it was real until I went to the comic's website, Jojo because Jojo, Chuunibyou because schadenfreude, and Kyousogiga because I'm already invested in the show.

Maybe Haitai Nanafa. That looks cute.

A new Hayate The Combat Butler? One that sounds like an FMA: Brotherhood situation? That would imply it's gonna follow the manga, which it isn't. This is a "Hayate has lots of new fans from the movie and the drama and from being a generally popular comic, who haven't seen the original anime even though it has been re-airing recently, so we'll just make a new anime that they don't have to have watched anything else to like" situation.

Really? Like, I didn't get anything from the short description other than "the script for this one is different than the first anime, and written by the guy who did the manga. I honestly don't know any more than that.

Gundam Age ended today (Episode 50 seems like it will be an Epilogue OVA), and Saint Seiya Omega is fine just as background noise... so i really need a new source of mindless shonen fun... and mecha.

I pick up animes on my teeth. I think the government is using me to investigate seditious media.

This came through the tooth line this morning. It is about Shin Sekai Yori, as it says in the top left corner. Pink and blue have their traditional meanings:

...wait... huh...really?

Hold on...

About one thousand years into the future, civilization has been retrograded and humans are living dispersed within small communities. People in this era have a psychic power called "Juryoku" which materializes things they imagine. In the absence of advanced scientific technology, people are using this power as a major source of energy.

One day, a girl called Saki, along with her friends, finds a small archive robot outside the town. It records the ancient history of humans. It tells them that Juryoku was found in the 21st century and the discovery caused a world war between psychics and non-psychics. The psychics won this war and thus their reign of terror began.

When the adults in town figure out that the children discovered this forbidden knowledge, they seal their Juryoku and exile them. Saki and the others end up in a forest where they meet a huge hairless bipedal mouse known as a "Bakenezumi" and get involved in a violent war the creatures are currently engaged in.

...well now that chart makes even less sense to me! I thought this was like a "Slice of life" anime thing... wait!

is the heart symbol on that chart more like "Senpaaaaaaaaaaai" stuff or more like "Kawaiiiiiiiii" stuff?!

phil_
09-24-2012, 08:16 AM
Well, I was thinking of what those arrows could mean. Friendship and Senpaaaaaaaaaaai are almost always reciprocal, two-way relationships; whereas romantic attraction, a.k.a. Kawaiiiiiiiii raburabu, can be one or two-sided.

So the hearts totally indicate a bisexual love-whirlpool.

Also, a picture of horrible naked mole rat people is what originally sold me on the show, so, yeah, sci-fi adventure, not K-On!.

The main things that caught my eye were the Tales OVA and Rebuild of Evangelion part 3. I also noticed that there was a sort of Code Geass spinoff thing listed too, but as much as I liked the anime I'm sort of skeptical of most spinoffs.

I hope we don't end up having to wait six months for the Rebuild dub. >.<

Addressing the point you were actually making, I mean, you don't have to watch everything. I know my choices mostly lean toward comedy and bright colors, with very few shows about everyone dying every episode. It's not a contest or anything; it's just TV.

It's not a contest or anything; it's just TV.My reason for watching Girls und Panzer is wanting to see girls judo-fight with tanks.

phil_
09-25-2012, 04:46 PM
My reason for not watching Girls und Panzer is that I doubt tanks will actually play a significant role in the story. There's a lot of characters in the material I'm seeing; I expect tank fighting to take a back seat to "kids in a club learning life lessons," and I have Chihayafuru season two for that this winter Edit: also Chuunibyo, now that I think about it.

If tanks do end up occupying a more important place in the story than music in K-On!, please let us know. I'd love a show about tanks without all that death and violence that accompanies tanks.

Magus
09-25-2012, 05:22 PM
I think it's more that the .0001% of anime I would actually enjoy overlaps fairly well with what eventually either appears on American TV or gets added to Hulu, Crunchy Roll, etc. I look at these lists every quarter and probably once a year I see something I'd like or which sounds appealing, anyway.

And I mean, yeah, it was Tsuritama. No, I didn't watch it. I had a hard time finding something appealing in the premise of teenagers fishing or whatever. Like my most recent thing I was watching was a show from several years ago called Darker than Black which is one of those more action oriented ones. On the other hand, a lot of anime doesn't sound appealing to me at first, I have to actually see it to really judge it. Like both FMA and Death Note sounded bad back when I first heard about them, but I really ended up liking them after watching them.

phil_

And I mean, yeah, it was Tsuritama. No, I didn't watch it. I had a hard time finding something appealing in the premise of teenagers fishing or whatever. It's more of a sci-fi alien show with a fishing motif than actually a show about fishing. But, yeah, the appeal for me was more in the art style and music than the plot, which is much harder to sell people on than Chinese Electric Batman (which I say with love; DtB was pretty cool).

Give it a shot if you're ever in a Fantasia sort of mood, assuming you have such moods.

I am being incredibly calm by just making this an edit Edit: Puchimas anime was announced on Sunday. This means nothing to any of you and it looks terrible. For me, though, this is stunning and exciting news. True surprise is a rare emotion in the information age.

Oh, yeah, the kid he meets while fishing, he's not human, right?

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche
09-26-2012, 09:34 PM
Yeah, Baccano! is probably the better of the two. Durarara!! has a solid cast but Baccano is just filled to the damn brim with intriguing and awesome people that you can't help but want to watch more of no matter what. Not the least of which are Miria and Isaac.

phil_
09-26-2012, 09:51 PM
Oh, yeah, the kid he meets while fishing, he's not human, right?Well, he's not fishing at that point. The alien is why he starts fishing.

As for Baccanos and Durarararararas, there needs to be more of the latter. I'd just gotten my head firmly around the whole thing when it ended, which might be what they were going for, but the OVA made me really feel "I want more of this now," which I hadn't felt before viewing it.

Also, all my shows which aren't aired in the Sunday kids' block are over now. What will I do with myself? Study?

Considering my tastes in anime - fantasy settings in general, some very specific mecha anime and, sometimes, other things ( like mawaru penguindrum and nichijou and to aru majutsu no index and the world god only knows ) - the last few seasons haven't been helping aside from uh, Sword Art Online.

There is always the light novels. The anime covered a few story arcs, but the light novels go quite a ways beyond that. Same story with Baccano.

Also, anyone else sort of think it was supposed to be Dulalala?

You know, since one of the main characters is a Dullahan?

10-03-2012, 10:43 PM
So, Hayate was perfect, in that it was everything I like week-to-week in the comic plus color, motion, and sound. I can understand if someone doesn't like it for not being a continuation of the story, given that Hayate's back story would be pretty cool to see animated, what with the castle and all.

Shin Sekai Yori doesn't suck and has the potential to stay that way, which is good. Or bad, given that it could waste all this potential. Hope it doesn't.

Wooser was silly and delivered on Miyano saying things.

I… I didn't watch it. How marathon-able do you think it is? Like, do you think I could just watch the entire thing tomorrow and not hate life? I'm pretty sure I said I'd watch it if you said it was worth watching, and you did, so at this point I'm not living up to my end of the bargain.

10-08-2012, 01:28 AM
Uuuuuggggghhhhh. That ending came out of left field. I knew beforehand that the KoB leader was actually Kayaba because I stumbled on some spoilers, and I liked his reveal, and even the fight after that. But during the fight I was thinking that Kirito was going to get killed and Klein would use the revive item that Kirito gave him a while back. Then Asuna died, and Kirito was killed shortly after. At that point I thought "so they will revive Kirito since he's probably the only one who can beat Kayaba, and Asuna will still be dead and this will be pretty interesting." But NOPE. Kirito becomes a ghost or something, refusing to die despite that being something that wasn't programmed into the game (and it being some sort of bug still barely makes sense). And then he kills Kayaba with a weak little stab, and bam the game is over. It was just extremely anti-climactic.

Still, despite that, the first arc in general was pretty good. I won't be watching the second arc though, because I looked into the setting and plot and boy is it stupid.

So Asuna is trapped in another game because some dude wants to marry her and gain control of her dad's company. Apparently trying to induce Stockholm syndrome is the best plan this guy has. Also, the new game is all about fairies and magic, so say goodbye to the cool game concepts that were introduced in the first arc.

They have pointy ears and wings!

Ryong
10-09-2012, 08:40 AM
Yeah I wasn't a fan of that ghost thing and was totally expecting a spin into "Also, no players actually died for real." after Asuna not dying and Kirito becoming a ghost. Still, I shouldn't be surprised, with how there's a lot of artistic license on the game's mechanics.

I've been told by people that they felt it was rushed, even though the light novel works in stupid chronological order and was just as rushed - first volume has the first couple of episodes and then those last two, everything in between was a side story published later on, from what I've seen.

Gregness
10-09-2012, 08:53 PM
This may be a touch off topic seeing as it's not about the current anime season, but Hulu recently put up the english subs of Madoka Magica (http://www.hulu.com/#!madoka-magica)so if you're like me and missed this gem in its first run, then there you go.

Also, holy shit, that show.

phil_
10-09-2012, 09:03 PM
It helps that it's a short show, but I've watched them there Madokas, like, three times. _mike has watched it at least twice that amount; watching each episode as it came out, then subbed with me, then through the blurays a few times.

So, yeah, it's not the best story or the best characters or the best animation, but it all pulls together to be something worth six hours of your time, definitely.

Ryong
10-14-2012, 10:48 PM
The writing changes from okay to "oh shit what are you doing" a lot with this author. The whole deal with the new villain could've been handled in a ton of different, better ways and then we get an okay part explaining some of Kirito's personality, then it turns into "HEY COUSINS CAN HAVE SEX RIGHT AND OH MY, MY SHIRT'S BUTTONS HAVE OPENED FOR SOME REASON!". I just want to watch a nicely animated anime with lots of fights and good characters, is it too much to ask after Fate/Zero being fucking awesome?

Will be talking about Shin Sekai Yori later.

Edit: Okay, this is shaping up to be a great anime so far, that's all I can say.

It's ok, Ryong. We can enjoy our "morally-neutral actions having disastrous consequences which are unforeseeable to the actors but all to obvious to the audience due to just enough extra info coming at the beginning animation and the ending narration" show together.

I'd call it our Dramatic Irony show, but internet has poisoned the well so thoroughly for the word "irony" that the fumes are making me woozy and it's not like we're paying by the letter here.

This was the most entertaining opener of the season this side of manly testosterone fuel Jojo and comedy turned romance My Little Monster. Good production values, entertaining main characters (if very clichéd), and excellent use of music to heighten mood (I'M LOOKING AT YOU MAGI). Not sure if it can maintain this level of quality, but better than most of the crap the fuckers at the animu blogosphere are hyping.

Starting to sense a formula with wacky school hijinx first, then serious business conspiracy shounen later. It's a bit like watching two different shows, except it kinda works here?

So the first three episodes were the introduction, and this one was half transition to the plot and half the plot. I look forward to them figuring out they can unseal their own powers, ain't nothin' but a mind trick, which shouldn't take too long, given that they figured out the whole "death feedback" thing within minutes of learning for the first time that human beings can in fact kill other humans. And then everyone will want them dead, plot.

11-09-2012, 01:22 PM
While I do appreciate Power of Friendship in general, it was used pretty lazily in Strike Witches. No, let me be more specific. It was used lazily in regards to Yoshika, in that she wasn't, like, helping her friend do a thing because they're friends (best example, everything Sanya and Eila did together) she just got a powerup whenever she appealed to the powers of MAMORITAI! It's like the difference between winning a fight with a clever strategy versus winning with a bigger beam, or adding conflict to a story through something other than a fist fight versus http://www.nuklearforums.com/images/icons/animay.png.

Like, because some of the 501st were using Power of Friendship in actual, interesting, not-just-straight-powerup-because-FREINDSHIP ways, it makes Miyafuji doing so and saving the day more disappointing.

But no I haven't watched Ben-To.
