View Full Version : New DC Hero time?
Looks like there's going to be a new hero in the Batman-verse coming out Wednesday (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bryan-young/talon-0-scott-snyder_b_1906572.html?utm_hp_ref=entertainment&ir=Entertainment).
his coming Wednesday, DC Comics is launching their first-ever series with a brand-new character from The New 52. The book is called Talon and it's spinning out of the pages of Scott Snyder's monumental run on Batman and his Court of Owls storyline.
Talon is a renegade named Calvin Rose, the only assassin to escape the clutches of the Court of Owls.
This first zero issue sets him on his path and it's a great read from Scott Snyder, co-writer James T. Tynion IV, and artist Guillem March. It has all the feeling of The Fugitive mixed with a Harry Houdini adventure. And since it's tied in some small way to the Batman mythos (and Snyder), I'll certainly be adding it to my comic hold.
The thing I love about the things Snyder is involved in is the literary sensibility he brings every issue he works on. He brings something to the table that isn't often seen in comics and I'm really glad he's doing it.
Don't take my word for it, though, DC has been kind enough to give us a look at the first five pages of Talon #0 and I think it speaks for itself.
I'm not sure I'm sold on him yet, as the five preview pages didn't do too much to showcase his awesome. If you take a look, know that the last two pages are part of a center-spread and read the top of both pages from left to right before doing the same with the bottoms of those pages. It's a little confusing if you read it like normal.

All the Stephanie Brown fans just went, "WHAT THE HELL? THEY NUKE STEPHANIE BROWN BUT HAVE NO PROBLEM ADDING A NEW BATMAN HERO EVERY OTHER WEEK?!"
I'll probably read this.

When I read the thread title my first thought was "Why not can the entire fucking DC universe and write stories instead." Then I remembered that's what I always think when DC or Marvel make any kind of announcement.
Loads of talent are stuck there writing story arcs revolving around long-running established characters.

Another gritty, dark white male superhero?
Just what comics needed!

I was gonna say, the female Asian Talon assassin who was horribly disfigured by a Japanese balloon bomb during WWII should get her own series. In fact I thought she was, they built her up enough in that comic book.

Someone should seriously be like, "What if Batman...WAS ACTUALLY A WEREWOLF?!"
Then they could be like, "Ah ha! You expected us to make him a vampire, didn't you? WELL WE JUST BUCKED THE PARADIGM, BITCHES."

If there's one thing DC has very specifically proven over the past couple years, it's that they have absolutely no interest in putting out a book starring a reformed, physically-scarred female asian master assassin in Gotham.

Well, I'm taking a nap. Someone wake me when Batman aborts the rest of DC, and becomes his own company.

They'd call it BC, or Batman Comics, but people would be confused as to whether it meant "Before Comics" or "British Columbia".

I thought it was about cavemen making bad puns and talking about Jesus.

To be fair, sometimes the ants make bad puns and talk about Jesus.

To be fair, it's already Detective Comics Comics. Dunno why we're always surprised Bats takes the spotlight. That said, shit does get ridiculous.
On the subject of New 52 comics, how bout that Earth 2? That is some damn good shit right there, and I am positively thrilled it pretty much immediately showed how a team book should be. It's not excessively fast paced, but a lot happens and it all flows together really well. Does things differently, but not in a way that causes immediate 'sperg rage. Can't wait to see where they go with it.
EDIT: Also on "new" (it's only been a year) hero talk, that Bunker, man. He sure ain't no straight white guy, and he's pretty consistently been one of the best parts of his book. Which, yeah, considering said book allegedly contains Tim Drake, Cassie Sandsmark, Bart Alan, Connor Kent is a sad state of affairs, but still. Dude's pretty fantastic.

Well, it certainly contains a guy using the name Tim Drake but yeah Bunker's a pretty cool dude.

assassin huh? Remember when they were called "heroes" because they were big on morality with strict no-kill beliefs, and that was interesting because it was both challenging for them and also justified how the villain kept returning without using contrivances (admittedly save for the revolving prison door).
suppose he could be reformed as in he now wishes to never kill again. I could buy that. Is that what they do?

Hey, Stephanie Brown was on this Saturday's Young Justice... The one that got suddenly pulled & didn't air. Hmm....
(It did get posted to iTunes & maybe similar services, I dunno.)
Supposedly, the DC blck will return in January, supposedly.

The same thing that suddenly happens whenever Steph is set to appear in something happened again? WHAT A FANTASTIC COINCIDENCE.

Which was by complete accident and they were quickly yanked off the store, making it the only way anyone even found out about the cameo and an extremely lucky occurrence that it did.

Expectations currently range from her name being changed in the credits to something along the lines of "captured girl" to her being eaten alive by an animated version of Dan Didio.
