Unless I misunderstood, the title is abit misleading. The DCAU is called that because all the animated DC shows took place in the same continuity. Which the dark knight isn't apart of.
I only mention this because, shame on you for making me hope they were bringing the DCAU out of retirement.

They still call it that even though it's not the thing you said.

Yeah, they do. Presumably because Bruce Timm is involved with some of these, I think? The full name is DC Animated Universe Original Movies.
I will probably buy/watch it, although I hope none of the money actually benefits Frank Miller because he kind of turned into a nutcase through the years (well...MORE of a nutcase than before). The seemingly anarchic Frank Miller of the 1980s has turned into a run-of-the-mill neocon, what with that stupid diatribe he had on his site about Occupy Wall Street.

Also what with everything else he's made since at least "Batman: Year One" being shit.

Oh, yeah, Holy Terror is like, Glenn Beckian in its jingoistic idiocy, and also the quality of it is pretty shitty.

Not quite. DC Universe Original Animated Movies. Not a huge difference, but enough to show it's not actually related to the DCAU.
Haven't gotten around to seeing this one yet, mostly because I'd rather watch both parts at once instead of waiting until they release the second. From what I've seen, I'm a little apprehensive, if only because unlike New Frontier or Batman Year One, they didn't even attempt to use the comic's artistic style, and it was a large part of what made the book work, at least in my eyes. That said, every other one of these movies I've seen has been pretty damn good.

I didn't even like Year One very much, though. I was just kind of bored watching it, despite having a better plot than most of them and being based on such a lauded miniseries, which I loved when I read it. You're right about it looking a LOT like the comic, though. For this DKR adaptation Batman's design looks right, but most of the other characters are definitely just that generic art style from Justice League or what have you.
I think that, oddly, the more action-packed ones have been my favorites. I think my top ones have been The New Frontier, Crisis on Two Earths, Justice League Doom, and Superman Vs. The Elite. Batman Under the Red Hood was pretty amazing, though, plotwise, and quite exciting as well. It might have been enhanced from the fact that I never read that story arc, whereas Year One I've read a dozen times.

Might have also been Batman Begins coloring your opinion as well.
