Hey all. My friend and I just got a minecraft server up and going and was wondering if anyone would be interested

Introducing DerpCraft (name subject to change)

Its a small 20 man server that runs mods using the feed the beast client. Making it fun and easy for you, And it doesn't get rid of your vanilla minecraft so you can still play that all you like too.

http://feed-the-beast.com/ that there will take you to the website to download the client.

When you run it get to install to some random drive as its just a launcher and doesn't effect the actual game. Now during this it will ask you where you want to put the new minecraft install. This is best on a gaming drive if you have one. Or at least something thats not the .minecraft folder.

When you run the launcher, Select mods and choose the MINDCRACK bundle as thats the version we are running.

96.9.154.12:25567 Thats there is the IP and you will have to Post here or better IM me about getting on the whitelist.

There will be two stages of security to get on the whitelist. Me looking at your forum rep and asking mainly flare if your a ok dood. Tho final say goes to my friend who is the server admin and the only one with access. tho I don't really see a problem so long as we don't get any trolls.

Now some info about the server, tips and tricks mind you.

This is a legit server. Not even my friend and I have abilities to spawn blocks or sumsuch like that. There are no moderators, tho my friend is rather swift when dealing with asshattery.

many of the mods add ALOT of new ors and blocks to the game. Most of these (except mainly one thats still in development) are usefull at some point depending on what you wanna do.
One of the mods makes things a tiny bit more difficult, like making you go to the nether to progress but thats the natural progression anyways. Like I said all the vanilla stuff is there and you can do it all (only thing you will need help with is iron blocks due to that one mod but I and my friend are set up enough to get you those made up in a jiffy)

One mod add 20+ new biomes each more diffrent than the last. 8

many new tools and toys. and even extensive farming. Seriously, you have no idea how much time I have put into this.
The ability to make a bag that you keep in your inventory that gives you a whole chests worth of space, they also come in every color)
and one of my faves is a machine that turns every one ore into 2 dusts. which each can be smelted. There are more that add to the effenciency all the way up to 500% (one ore to 5 bars.. wtf)

But as stated. this isn't easy. not one bit.

Spawn tip for your first day.

If its night when you log in. come back later.

The spawn chunk is in whats called a mini jungle biome. (no jungle trees or coco beans) There are a crap load of trees. Also watch the quicksand. Yes there is quicksand. Its dark brown and hard to break. I'll see about making it night friendly so you spawn inside.

If possible it would be nice if we could spread out some, fighting over resources just isn't cash. If wanted I can provide a pick of what the map looks like so far so you can stake a claim somewhere thats all yours.

So I hope we can get a few people to join and I hope my scribbles here helped.

I'd like at least somewhere new to check out since Fiendcraft dried up.

I'm interested.

FTB seems to include a lot of the mods that Tekkit does though the inclusion of Forestry/Mystcraft definitely seem interesting.

Question is... are the mods required to play/interact with others?

to play on the server you need the mods or it will not let you connect.
Do you need to use the mods to play? not at all. You play as you want.

Can you whitelist me? Username is rush1073. I'm interested to see what buildcraft/industrialcraft/etc. contraptions you guys have come up with =)

Judging by the OP, do you guys have Equivalent Exchange on your version of FTB? Condenser and Flying Ring are nice, although most of everything else late game in EE is ridiculously overpowered.

Sadly we don't have EE and my friend has gone to bed for the night. I'll see what I can do for tomorrow tho and let ya know when your in. Also the world is quite new so we don't really have anything all that impressive.

I'd been thinking about getting back into minecraft recently, maybe trying out the latest tekkit. Though I don't even know what most of those mods in that OP link are and there's a LOT of them. Seeing as my pc is pretty crappy at the best of times and I barely know the first thing about installing mods (I had to watch youtube videos about how to install and backdate minecraft for tekkit last time), I'm not sure how well this is gona run for me, or even if I'll manage to install it correctly.

FTB is actually really easy to install compared to other mods. As it's a modpack, it does a lot of the dirty work for you. Just download the client exe from the website, save it to like your desktop or wherever, and it installs for you the first time you run it. That's it. As far as running smoothly on your comp I'm not too sure. Doubt it's that CPU intensive.

As far as the mods, its major contributions are somewhat similar to Tekkit in that it has Buildcraft and Industrialcraft on it which are more or less the heavy duty mods and the easiest ones to get into. Tekkit also has Equivalent Exchange which is your magic stuff which includes a lot of amazingly useful stuff but gets incredibly overpowered in the late game. FTB doesn't have EE but it does have Forestry, Thaumcraft, etc. BC and IC are are all about automation. You use a macerator to break down your ore blocks and double the amount of ores you get from them which you then pipe to your electric furnace to smelt the ores into usable materials which you can then pipe into chests. These mods and many of the other ones are based around power/EU consumption in which you use windmills/oil pumps/lava pumps to generate energy for your electric machines.

From those machines you can eventually build stuff like Jetpacks, Mining Lasers, Quarries to mine your materials for you, etc. It seems like a lot when you start but look at a few starting tutorials to find out what to do and you should be set.

Could we use the base IndustrialCraft recipes instead of the horrendously expensive GregTech ones?

It's a bit ridiculous needing advanced circuits and diamonds for basic start-up equipment like macerators.

Okay so what the hell is this

And also, someone kindly point me to a good tutorial for the mod.

You are going to have to be more specific than "What the hell is this?" cause there be a lot of shit going on there.

Eh the only thing that you're going to want to note in that picture is the Not Enough Items interface on the right side with pictures of all the items. With NEI, you never have to look up a wiki to find crafting recipes ever again as it's all there for you. Just type in the search bar the item you want to craft and click the item on the right and it shows the recipe. All the other extra stuff in that interface is kind of irrelevant for newbies.

As far as starting out, there are probably starting tutorials on the FTB wiki

Once you have basic tools, build a pulveriser and a stirling engine to power it. It's relatively easy to make and is important for later.

The pulveriser grinds ores into 2 dust. Each dust pile can be put in a furnace to make an ingot, so you've effectively doubled your yield. You'll need it since a lot of machines are pretty expensive.

The nifty thing about the pulveriser is there's a GUI for setting where inputs and outputs come from. Just click on the coloured sqaures - there's one for each face. Blue means input (it'll take things from a chest sitting on that side), red is output, yellow is secondary output (some ores grind into multiple ingredients) and orange will dump them both in the same chest.

Get this set up right first, I was mucking around and accidentally had it dumping the output into the stirling engine's fuel slot. On that point, a stirling engine can run on almost anything that a furnace would, but it also needs a redstone current.

Sorry bout that. It will be getting done tomorrow. my bad.

Also yes for the best "easy" start up go with thermal expantion. then expand to IC and such. The greg tech stuff is pretty awesome but also expensive o.o;;;

Ok home from work and you will be white listed

Which is a shame, because Industrial Craft in itself is... not expensive but expensive enough.

With enough enough mods already in the modpack, most with stuff you want to build, I think it's discouraging to have a mod for a mod that makes things more expensive.

But that's merely my opinion, of course. The fact that FTB includes it says enough about the popularity.

There are viable and fantastic alternatives to IC2 that use Buildcraft Energy, if this particular modpack has Thermal Expansion.
