We need more good news in here, so here is one about another new promising cancer therapy (http://www.nanowerk.com/spotlight/spotid=28118.php)
the team have discovered that nanoparticles produced by A. oligospora hold promise for stimulating the immune system and killing tumors

Due to their high surface-to-volume ratio, nanoparticles demonstrate unique optical, thermal and electrical properties. In addition, their small size allows them to easily cross cell membranes, an essential requirement for delivering drugs to tumor cells.

Zhang's team investigated the fungal nanoparticles' potential as a stimulant for the immune system, and found through an in vitro study that the nanoparticles activate secretion of an immune-system stimulant within a white blood cell line. They also investigated the nanoparticles' potential as an antitumor agent by testing in vitro the toxicity to cells using two tumor cell lines, and discovered nanoparticles do kill cancer cells.

Now I think if people dont get too wrapped up in the fact this chemical is made by something that decomposes flesh this could be a great new cancer treatment.

Cancer is just your own body's flesh with the natural checks and balances removed. It would make theoretical sense that a fungus that breaks down flesh wouldn't care too much if the cells it consumed were cancerous or not.

Personally, fuck cancer. I'd like to see where this goes.

I'm guessing that since most flesh eating fungi consume dead meat this particular type only breaks down inert cancerous cells. After all its technically a chemical the fungus produces not the actual fungus
