So I spent my last day off playing the Resistance (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/4728-Resistance-3) series and binge drinking and peeing on a memorial (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/drunken-student-charged-after-urinating-425067), then getting in trouble with the police (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUJuiMKbyhc), and generally sitting around in a sort of depressive, anxious state, trying to stay oblivious and blissfully unaware of the horror that is humanity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squee) played through the Half Life series again.

When is Episode 3 coming out?

My theory is that Valve is saving it so that they can release it exclusive to PC and the Steam Box, as a way to hook even more on-release sales as the console gamers rage.

Really, Valve has danced around that number so much that it's not unreasonable to assume they don't want to make an official third game of any of their franchises. We can only hope that they do, as we continue to sacrifice Origins users as an offering to gain Gabe Newell's favor.

Seriously, I don't think the number 3, or it's meaning, exists in his world.

The third game hooks up with the Portal series from what I've gathered. So I don't doubt that Valve its taking their time on how to work this out.

Newell has already confirmed several times that they're working on Ricochet 2. They just don't want to show anything until they have a solid idea of what the finished project will look like, because then they'll just get people needlessly hyped for things that might end up on the cutting room floor.

Half-life 3 is coming soon as Gaben does a hat trick in a 4chan cup.

It would suck. I'm not saying Half Life is a bad game, its excellent interactive storytelling. But its also really freakin dated. The gameplay mechanics are shallow, encounters feel more like busy work, and its only got one memorable weapon. I mean seesaw and stepping stone puzzles, really? My money is we'd get a sequel more akin to duke nukem forever than TF2.

Yea I'm being a pessimist but history has shown me that if a game becomes vaporware in development hell its usually best to keep it there.

Didn't they say that if they made another Half Life Game, it would be Half Life 3, not Half Life 2 Episode 3?

Some info on Ricochet 2 (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/23/gabe-on-ricochet-2-delay-but-he-doesnt-mean-ricochet/)

“We end up changing our minds as we’re going through and developing stuff, so as we’re thinking through the giant story arc which is Ricochet 2, you might get to a point where you’re saying something is surprising us in a positive way and something is surprising us in a negative way, and, you know, we’d like to be super-transparent about the future of Ricochet 2"

Newell claims the reason for the five-year silence on the next installment of Ricochet is not aloof dismissal of fans desires, but an earnest fear that “we always have this problem that when we talk about things too far in advance. The problem is, we think that the twists and turns that we’re going through would probably drive people more crazy than just being silent about it, until we can be very crisp about what’s happening next.”

Am I alone in actually wanting Ricochet 2? I loved the original far more than I probably should have.

Well it's not like anyone made them port Half-Life 2 to PS3 or whatever. They did that of their own volition (and refused to print any more copies, as well).
