yeah.... April fools... that time where crazy trailers, fake games and fake concepts that turn into real games come out.

A lot of stuff goes down on the Web on April 1st. But the gaming stuff always gets my attention first... so let's share!

Starting with... BATMAN ARKHAM CITY 8 BIT STUFF!!

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/za9m1f/batman--arkham-city-pop-facts--batman-arkham-city---8-bit-bats-in-the-belfry

And for you Guild Wars 2 players out there... check this map out.

what else you found?

Some important StarCraft II news! Is that ever important? Nah, not really.

https://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/9369235

The Warhound has been added for Terran because robots are cool and the art is amazing

The Warhound has been added for Zerg to remain competitive with Terran.

The Warhound has been added for Protoss to keep Protoss players from whining about them on the forums.

While we know these changes are drastic, we encourage everyone to log in and spend some time playing before rushing to judgment. We welcome you to share your thoughts, but this time around we’re not going to be listening to feedback.

Still, I'm looking forward to bolstering my cannon rushes with Warhounds.

This just happened overnight so no news articles have been able to cover it, but GameFaqs was quick on their feet and is polling folks on how they feel about EA's takeover of Nintendo. (http://www.gamefaqs.com/)

Also Half-Life 4 is coming. (http://steamdb.info/app/800/#section_info)

If Capcom was smart, they'd ignore this day... but they didn't. And it's hard to believe that's a joke considering what they did with Street Fighter 2.

But At least it's not a fake Megaman trailor.

I remember back when the entire point of these things was to actually trick people into thinking they were real.

What? Admit it you spent hours trying to unlock Sonic in Melee

Speaking of tricks, Cosmic Break (an mmo I play once a blue moon) has finally cracked from the preasure of it's own urges and has gone full High School Drama Comedy moe.

The problem is that everyone knows it's coming.

The date should instead shift from year to year, known only to those who solve the riddles of the previous year. All of April would be spent wondering: "When is Fool's Day? When will it be safe to trust again?"

I hate this holiday because it's about devs joking about projects far more interesting than what they actually make.

Probably not. Do the Konami code.

I've actually owned FC3 since Chirstmas, but not got around to playing it yet. Procrastination and 40GB monthly caps. So whether this sort of thing pops up in the main game, I have no idea.

I'm just waiting for the year that a dev follows through with their outlandish concept based on awesome fan feedback, and then April 1st turns into the day devs showcase their ridiculous ideas on the internet to gauge interest before making it an actual thing.

Now we have a full-on WoW expansion, so make of that what you will.

Not strictly related to videogames, but I remember my mom used to tell how they tricked the whole country back in the day when color TV was barely a thing. They made a whole TV show about how covering the screen in nylon stockings, stretched just right, would make it color.

Probably a few million man hours and a number of socks were spent in vain that day.

So I just found out that Blizzard actually went through with it, and Warhounds are indeed in the game for all three races. As each race's workers.

Mostly its that they aren't even trying to make them seem real.

I do agree sometimes we get awesomeness out of it. Hell it brought back toonami.

I realize this is not a video game, but YouTube has "gone through with it" and is currently still streaming a show announcing all of the "nominees" with real tweets across the bottom and related contest text. They built a stage with a podium and backdrop, have two hosts* doing the reading and a little bit of commentary, and have a video wall broadcast of it as well in their offices.

They're nearing the 9th hour. This is dedication to a stupid joke.

* YouTube has given them things based on people re-tweeting some of their messages (e.g. water, coffee, stools to sit on).

That's not even funny since it is merely a satire on their own dumb marketing strategy of rereleasing each new Street Fighter game six times with slightly more characters.

Poor Combofiend.

It's the same joke he would have made before getting on Capcom's payroll, but now he has to deal with having nerdrage directed at him over it.

If they really did come up with a third power bar, besides health and super, it would be the biggest innovation on Capcom's part in at least twenty years. Maybe we could make it a. . .tactical bar? Super jumps, feints, grapple escapes, there's a whole untapped dimension. But noo, let's make the same super duper joke everyone else have been making since about Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo instead.

Bells

Capcom already worked with the 3 Bar system, the 3rd bar was the Block bar, draining it would cause a Block Breaker. Several games used to do this a few years back.

Amake

That sounds boring, I'm not surprised I missed it. But a fourth bar then.

The hydralisks 100% win that engagement unless the player botches something.

Amake
04-02-2013, 02:12 PM
First, by hydralisks you mean Ken, right? Second, how can you tell?

And third, how many more bars, gauges, counters and meters do you think we could fit on that picture?

Arcanum
04-02-2013, 04:45 PM
Actually the stalkers and hydras are allied. Top right of the mini map, the bases are too close for that to be a 1v1. Plus you can see blue overlords to the left, and again on the mini map a red Refinery/Extractor/Assimilator at the natural.

Not to mention the only way you would see that kind of close-range fighting in a 1v1 between stalkers and hydras would be if the hydras were burrowed for some reason until the stalkers were on top of them, or you're watching a Bronze league game where the players only know about the Move command.

So really, Teal and Purple have the victory secured with Blue wiped out and Red with no way in hell of coming back thanks to Teal and Purple's complete map/expo control.

e- Also, to Amake's question, if that were a fight between the Stalkers and Hydras, the Hydras would win because they have a faster attack speed than Stalkers, and higher damage (stalkers get a damage boost against armored targets, but hydras are light units). There also seems to be a significantly higher number of hydras compared to stalkers. The sentries might help mitigate some damage with their shield ability, but are in a terrible position to do so and would be essentially useless. Likewise, the Immortal is worthless against hydras.

SF Alpha's guard crush bar aside, they already added a third power bar in SF4 when they introduced ultra combos (which fill up as you take damage and focus through attacks) as a comeback mechanic:

http://i.imgur.com/ueErqof.png

The Duper meter would have been a fourth power bar, one that appeared to be filled by taunting. This would have mostly only revolutionized the game in the sense that Dan would suddenly become top tier.
