When did we start studying music in any great detail? Thousands of years after we started banging rocks together and strapping vines to coconuts with a bamboo stem and... The Flinstones might have led me astray here.

What is it with music? How can a few simple chords influence what you buy, where you want to eat, how is it stress relief to hear your favorite song on the radio, why are we concerned with wanting to play music, why is it a common dream to be a rock star?

At what point do we label music a 'mind altering substance?'
