So about me cutting off the stack of reviews early last time... it wasn't you, it was me. I've just been going through some stuff, but I think I've got it sorted, so all 45 people that read both reviews can now read these ones.

Anyway, Sister - it's nice to be on the "B's" after Abyzou and Abalom! So... what have we got? A pretty awesome horror flick, that's what!

The Cast Ethan Hawke as Ellison Oswalt, Juliet Rylance as his wife, Tracey Oswalt, and their two kids Clare Foley as Ashley Oswalt and Michael Hall D'Addario as Trevor Oswalt. Also, the local sheriff is played by Fred Dalton Thompson, and his Deputy by James Ransone.
The Plot deals with the Oswalt family in the middle of moving into their new home. Ellison is a writer - who I immediately like, because he's got big glasses, a cool sweater, and a love of whiskey. He wrote a great book a while back called "Kentucky Blood," which spent time at the top of the best seller list... it was also a true-crime book that, in doing the research, Ellison caught a few details that were missed by the police.
Now, though, the Oswalts are eating into their savings, with Ellison trying to have lightening strike in the same place twice, the first being the success of the book, the second place being his whiskey bottle. But it's cool, though - the house that they're moving into is a house where a family was hanged. Like a whole family. In fact, that's how the movie starts. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsd8xsgPIqA) (DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE A FAMILY HANGED TO DEATH.) Ellison has chosen to write about the family in the hopes that he can revitalize his career.
While in the middle of moving into the house, the local Sheriff drives over and talks with Ellison, adding that he thinks moving into the house was in "bad taste." Also in the middle of moving into the new house, Ellison starts to put things away in the attic and notices a single, small box already there marked "home movies." These are those old movies on reels, and are marked things like "Pool Party" and "Barbeque." They depict families hanging out, having fun, and then there's hard cuts to scenes where the family is murdered together, like the tree hanging scene... among several others. Like the one labeled "Yard Work," or "Barbeque."
Personal Opinion: Yes. Everything is pretty great - the premise is interesting, there's lots of well done scares, the music helps to provide great atmosphere... It's all fantastic.
Ethan Hawke does well as a writer trying to recapture his glory days, Juliet Rylance does well as the wife and mother trying to hold everything together, the kids are pretty cool - even the Sheriff is pretty ominous. The Deputy, who is called "Deputy So-and-So," is pretty great, too. Ransone did really well.
The effects are minimal - not a lot of blood and gore outside of one or two scenes, no shakey cameras outside of the home movies, and a genuinely scary figure in Bughuul.

Final Opinion Yes.

Yes, I am aware that they are similar, but they're not the same.
