So I guess Godzilla in 1998 being mediocre at best was not enough to discourage riding the wave of Pacific Rim to bring us an updated big monster movie.

To the '98 movie?
'Cause that would be... amazing.

EDIT: I mean, like, okay. Neither having Mathew Broderick or being called "2" indicates a "no". But that opening speech is all, "I know some of you have never had hands-on experience..." indicating that some people do.

And the entire set up/speech could lend itself to the idea that Godzilla is some kind of recurring problem, like a rash where you can only treat the symptoms, but it comes back eventually.

And, you know, this is (or at least seems to be) made in the U.S.

And we can't have non-sequel movies, if there's a previous movie. We have to have a series then reboot it later.

And the 15 years between the '98 one and now could be plenty of reason not to have Broderick while still sharing the universe.

Heck, even if the canon doesn't match, exactly, it could still be a sequel.

This is now my new conspiracy theory/hope.

It can't really be a sequel because the sequel ended with a NY infested with Godzilla babies.... at least, that would be a mark against it.

On the other hand, i KNOW current super CGI effects of high quality are ultra expensive, which is why a lot of CGI dependent movies have a ton of Human characters acting out on screen... but i worry of the "Bay-isms" of this trailer with the Halo Jump and the Army Dick-waving over godzilla...

Mind you that a lot of the character action in that trailer seems to happen during the day, while the Godzilla scene appears at night (also easier to CG at night i guess) so we have that time lapse where Godzilla proper and front center will likely only appear in the final third of the movie.

So, before that, we will likely have this thing on the ocean..... probably tied to Fukushima in Japan ...... tearing a new asshole to anything under and above the water line...

We will very likely have a brave tiny squad of soldier trying to "tag" godzilla for a satellite guided nuklear strike... even though you are probably capable of watching Godzilla tear shit up from space with naked eyes...

The movie will end in a Cliffhanger of "We won, but there is so much destruction that it doesn't feel like win" and in the final scene it will shown that Godzilla didn't die, fixing the problem of the 98 Movie that was having the US army actually kill Godzilla with their military pew pew pew guns...

I hope its "anti-bay". Godzilla always made one thing clear, conventional military is useless in these situations. Those movies more often denounced military use then celebrated it. That being said this is the US. Since showing actual existing military hardware requires government approval if we are seeing actual tanks and planes and etc than at the very least the military will be competent and needed for success.

I know there was a ton of eggs... I don't remember more than one hatching. It has been around fifteen years, though. The huge number of eggs is what I was referring to, actually. If, somehow or another, the eggs were staggered in their hatching in their hidden locale (say, one at a time, only), "Godzilla" could be a recurring problem and have an "explanation" for it's periodic arrival from seemingly no where.

I guess I could have explicitly stated that in the OP, but I thought it was kind of obvious.

It's pretty telling when a movie sets up a sequel handily (i.e. the eggs in the '98 movie) and then nothing happens.


Bells, the main attraction may appear much earlier in the film; not giving it away in the trailer will only attract people more (much like how you don't get to see Smaug).
