I guess we know that a lot of the original cast is coming back, it takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, and Han and Leia had twins. I wonder if they will incorperate any more from the Star Wars novels and Expanded Universe. Will Disney do a better job than George Lucas did with episodes 1-3? Though being a naive optimist, I liked those movies better than a lot of people seemed to.

A rotting animal carcass on the side of the road could've directed better slop than those three. On a bad day. So it isn't a fair stretch of the imagination to say anything they'll make will still be better than lucas' lukewarm three episode vomit fest.

Yeah I didn't outright hate them either.

I still think Episode I is actually not that bad.

They also have not even announced the plot yet, so we can't say what the new characters will be. Hell, the only ones confirmed are Luke, Leia, Han, R2D2, C3P0, and Chewbacca.
As for the story, they got the screenwriters for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi working on produicing it, as well as writing Episode 8 and 9.

I suppose it was too much to hope that we'd have gotten Timothy Zahns Empire trilogy in movie form. Thrawn would have been an excellent villain on the big screen.
Such a missed opportunity.

I heard the originally wanted the big three to be more cameos and focus more on the children but the powers to be thought fan-baiting by having it still focus on Luke, Han, and Leia was the better idea.
Personally I want Luke to be, at most, the Obi-wan of the movie. I'd be fine with Han and Leia not showing up at all.

Honestly, I am finding a lot of the Old Republic era stories much more engaging. The whole Sith Empire vs. Republic warfare and the different portrayal of Sith and Jedi that diverges from the black-and-white view Lucas originally held makes the stories about the individuals engaging enough to not even need flashy space fights to hold my attention. And that was part of the problem with the prequel trilogy -- its character development was awful all around, relying on lightsabers and starships (and nostalgia for the original films) to bring in viewers. As shitty as they can be overall, the EU authors and their various works have made even Clone Wars era characters waaay more fleshed out and detailed than those movies.
So I guess I don't care, really, which era is selected as long as they do that. But it would be nice to do it with new characters / not Luke-Han-Leia.

Zahn probably insisted on being cast as Karrde, ruining negotiations.

Has anyone else heard that Lupita is supposed to have some role in these films like I have?
....and am I a horrible person for assuming right off the bat that she's going to play the daughter of Lando?

Yeah I was fan of that series as well, a military genius trying to bring back the empire, Mara Jade becoming frenemies with Luke, a crazy clone of a Jedi Master forcing Luke to battle a Clone of himself. good times, good times.
I also liked the Jedi Academy Series by Ken J. Anderson, Death Star vs Sun Buster. :D

The prequels certainly didn't follow anything from the EU, I don't know why people thought the sequels were going to.
