View Full Version : Final Fantasy XIV Party Down
I play FFXIV and it is a very good game. It's got chocobos and mogs and bahamuts and titans and magitek and gilgamesh and darth vader.
My character is Kimmy Dee and I'm an item level 94 Bard. Currently working toward my Animus weapon, almost finished the second book for that.
I play on the Excalibur server. If you wanna party up or just add each other to our respective friends lists, let me know.
I might make a Free Company but probably not. We'll see.

I played this, and as the first MMO I've played since.... fucking RaiRO in 2006 this has been a ton of fun. I'm at Lancer 29 and also on Excalibur and just got the ability to ride mounts. Fat Chocobo supremacy.
Edit:Should add I'm on PS4 and playing on a console has been fine, the only thing I'd recommend is using a bluetooth keyboard for chat, combat is perfectly doable on controller at least for DPS, other roles might be trickier.

I admit, I would love to play it, but I'd have to drop something to make time (And most likely funds) to play.

So I've heard it's like playing a multiplayer version of a final fantasy game. Is there truth to this, or is it a typical all-out competition for resources and boss timers like most MMOs?
I don't think there's resource competition at all. There are timers on bosses and dungeons but if your timer runs out it is ALWAYS because your party has wiped several times already and you just need to requeue and try again.

Okay so it's not like, world bosses where some schmo comes by and killsteals and you're left drowning in impotent rage?
Oh no not at all. like, there are worldboss events, like odin and behemoth, but those are HUGE things where like a hundred folks are all fighting at once and everyone gets rewarded based on Bronze, Silver, and Gold rankings that you fall into based on how much damage your party did. They spawn semi-regularly anyway.

Just unlocked Warrior so look to me for all your tanking needs. (provided it is something for level thirty or under)

I haven't played since it launched, but last I recall the metric for determining rank in events is directly tied into threat generated. So easy to cheese events by way of doing nothing but low damage high threat abilities. Sit back and reap the rewards. Particularly easy to do as warrior.

Pyros just enjoys the fact that you're walking along the world on your merry way from A to B on a quest chain, when an army of ratmole people decide to mob the bar, and thus everyone comes from everywhere to kick the shit out of all of them, and no matter what level you are, it's a worthwhile action.
And it's soooo pretttyyyyy.... I've been fighting to earn up the money I need to buy the game and secure a lengthy subscription for several months....but my money is tied between college, gas, SunDrop, and my job status has gone from Ihop to Iunemployed.
But on Beta I had a catgirl and a Pyros and I made a living acting as a free medic, reviving people at Boss entrances who inevitably would die and lay dead on the ground in the middle of nowhere because the text said "Defeat the evil mage!" instead of "Defeat the evil mage AFTER defeating the Gargoyle!"
Game is sooooo good. Plots are plotty. Game has a lot of FFXII's charm/gameplay on top of FFXI's classes and chars on top of Realm Reborn streamlining on top of it's a pretty pretty pretty game. Different classes are drastically different from each other in playstyle, you can craft your own equipment upgrades, you can earn a lot of gold farming for the items someone else needs to craft their equipment upgrades, and getting around the world is cheap and easy so backtracking is never a problem to someone who explores a lot.
Why, why must Pyros be so poor? Is it because I have a degree in English?

Kinda just started myself and I'm over on the Lamia server because I like me some snake girls or whatever.
I play on a PS4 and haven't had many problems myself but then again, my eight girls are only level 10 and I'm holding back to work on the professions to keep 'em step in step with my class levels, so I'm leveling quite slow.
As a whole, the game can't replace City of Heroes in my heart but I do favor it over WoW, even though I hate the way FFXIV has professions being treated like entirely different classes. It just feels like it's forcing me into doing only one thing or the other, whereas in WoW I could fight these wolves, then mine this copper, and then explore a cave without having to change out one equipment setup for another. But at least you can make stuff wherever you want as opposed to slogging through a town or city to find a forge or a smelter.
Also, FFXIV has catgirls. Catgirls are pur-r-r-r-rfect. And I give kudos to the character creation system for allowing me to give the characters differently-colored eyes. That's a new one out of all the MMORPGs I've played.

... no comment.
Just got my Blacksmith to level 30 and my Miner to level 50. I'm sure there's a big pulls joke I could make for mining, but it eludes me.
Also been working on learning the Leviathan Extreme fight and saving up for my next bow upgrade. I should be able to take care of one of those today.
Also also, apparently they're adding a Ramuh fight in the next major patch!
