World premier was on the 1st over in Eurosville, general release for the US is the 17th. For those of you who have been living in a hole in the ground (nasty, wet, dry, sandy, or otherwise), a refresher.
Bilbo and Company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the terrifying Smaug from acquiring a kingdom of treasure and obliterating all of Middle-Earth.
There's some other news floating about here and there, including some movie-specific spoilers revealed through an accidental art book leak, which I'm linking to here because I'm a terrible person and want to spark some debate (http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2014/12/01/95295-big-hobbit-movie-spoilers-from-the-five-armies-chronicles-art-and-design-book/).
To close, here's a clip of the only part of the movie anyone really cares about (this one doesn't go on quite long enough to get into spoilery territory, especially not one particular bit that was discussed in that artbook link).
