Time for another one of these threads. What music have you been listening to lately?
I just rediscovered Random Access Memories.

...why the hell did I only buy 4 of the songs on this album when it first came out (Instant Crush, Get Lucky, Motherboard, Beyond)? I need to go get the entire thing now because all of these songs are really growing on me.
And unrelated, I've been listening to this song again.

It always makes me sad.
How 'bout you folks? What've you been listening to?

Electric Six is a band that was widely popular back in the early 2000's largely because of this song:
-XNFokmDKrE
It still pays for Dick Valentine's mortgage.
They're still putting out albums and are still generally awesome. Here's one off 2010s Zodiac (a very good album):

Pendulum might be coming out with a new album this year after a long hiatus while the main guy worked more with Knife Party.

Solution .45 is also working on a confirmed album to be put out this year. Generally anything Christian Älvestam is involved in is amazing. He's a highly talented musician/vocalist, currently in 9 bands. I'm more a fan of his projects where he is a dual vocalist than those he only sings rough in.

Embedding yotube makes my browser and computer rebel against me, so I'll just write them down instead. There is a going theme with the music I like. It's either symphonic metal, acapella or fantasy metal along with some grab bag stuff.
Dragonforce - Maximum Overload (Even The Power Within was pretty good.) (The Acoustic version of Seasons is awesome.)
Van Canto - Dawn of the Brave (And every album they've ever made. Their style is pretty unique.)
Lindsey Stirling (Awesome violin music)
Mumford & Sons (The only folk I'll listen to.)
Turisas (Among other metal bands.)
Some folks even do some covers of above mentioned that are pretty good. Even with different instruments.

In the spirit of boundless optimism and poignant sadness that characterizes the very best of their work, I bring to you the playlist for the Flaming Lips' Peace Sword EP (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLijZUkFcx-1dp2itu63OMZviH6QnXFEnC). (I realize that these songs are tied to a film that is in turn tied to a number of nasty things and people, but I beg you not to dismiss the music itself merely for its tenuous connection to Ender's Game, as I feel it stands on its own quite beautifully.) Their latest album, which is composed of tracks culled from their 24-hour song 7 Skies H3, is also pretty fantastic.

That and the Madoka Magica and Kill la Kill soundtracks practically nonstop. With some Guardians of the Galaxy thrown in for good measure.

I found this band thanks to Katatonia. Katatonia is releasing a DVD soon that has a live performance from 2014 in London. On stage they had the frontman/songwriter of The Pineapple Thief join them for the show. The audio for the DVD was mixed and mastered by him as well.

This is actually a pretty amazing mashup! It's surprising how well it works together, especially considering many of the other mashups on YouTube...

Blind Guardian released their first new album in five years a few weeks ago. This is the song that's been getting stuck in my head the most.

Hm, now it's not working for me either. Well, whatever, I swapped it out with another more recent upload.
While I'm at it, and so as not to derail the thread, here's another one I really like from the same album; the ballad Miracle Machine.

And the grand finale, Grand Parade, which is a more traditional power metal number with an orchestra backing them, but includes what is possibly one of their best choruses.

Russkaja's a folk-metal polka-ish band that's from Austria of all places. They've had tons of their own songs, but suddenly I'm seeing them do covers of stuff, and the results are awesomely, hilarious.
