Our friend, inspiration and co-worker Monty Oum passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:34 PM surrounded by people who loved him very much. Ten days ago Monty suffered a severe allergic reaction during a simple medical procedure that left him in a coma. Although he fought bravely, his body was not able to recover. During his time in the hospital he was well cared for and never in pain at any time.

Monty is survived by his wife Sheena, his father Mony, his brothers Woody, Sey, Chivy and Neat, and his sisters Thea and Theary, as well as a countless number of fans and friends. We were so proud to be a part of his life and we will miss him greatly.

Your generosity during the hours after the public statement on Friday will help his family deal with the costs of his care and his passing. You made an incredible difference during a difficult time and we cannot thank you enough.

As for honoring Monty, we will do that in our own way. In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you simply do something creative. Use your imagination to make the world a better place in any way that you can. If you know Monty like we do, then you know he would certainly be doing that if he were able to.

Monty was 33 years old.

We love you, Monty.

R.I.P Monty, I may not have known you, but a lot of friends and family will miss you. And so will all of your fans, rest easy and may god accept you into his arms with love and grace.

So young too, it's really hard to take in. It's wrong of me to think this but, I wonder what will become of his work? If RT will continue his projects in his honor or not.

I believe that RWBY will continue on, in his memory at the very least. It was his most successful project after all. Though I do wonder what they will do with Li Ren, which was voiced by Monty.

And also, for those who don't know, he did work in games as well, most notably was the combat designer and animator for Afro Samuari, and worked for Namco in 2008.

Well, that fucking sucks. Shit. I'd heard something was wrong, but had no idea it was so serious. I dunno what to say really. I always loved Montys stuff, ever since that first Haloid video. Nobody else made ridiculously amazing fight scenes like Monty (or worked so hard at their job to make such cool content).

The world just got a lot less awesome.

His work ethic has always been inspirational to me as an artist, ever since I became familiar with him in 2012ish. He was always pursuing his next project, starting things and then sculpting them to be the product he envisioned instead of allowing himself to be paralyzed by the fear of "what if it's not perfect?" RIP, Monty. He was an incredible talent, who's ethic was truly humbling.

oh

shit

That's pretty awful, and at such a young age.

It was so neat to see him go from "Haloid" through Dead Fantasy and into bigger work. Who knows what else he may have created or helped create?

Well, RWBY is now on Netflix.
