'Louie', the FX Louis C.K. comedy is, strangely, at once mundane and compelling.
Whether its' sense of humour is truly self-depreciating or just calculated to be so is probably up for debate. I generally like Louis C.K. and find his outlook on his success to be an appropriate mix of pride and humility, but he's not always above low-hanging fruit or punching down. Anyway....
One thing I've found interesting and not the least bit distracting about the show is the actor playing his ex-wife. My understanding is that there was some discussion about it 'not making sense' that his ex would be black while the actors that play their daughters are by all appearances white, and that he just didn't care because the actress does a good job.
There's probably SOME room in media to cast based on the appearance of someone's race, but this show is one of an increasing number of works that clearly work without that consideration.
