so this is the latest dc comics cartoon thingy, from the mind of bruce timm (http://www.businessinsider.com.au/justice-league-bruce-timm-2015-6)

“Justice League: God and Monsters” is Timm’s latest work, a shocking reinvention of the Justice League that’s a complete 180 from his iconic DC Animated Universe. In this version, Batman is a vampire, Superman is the son of General Zod, and Wonder Woman is descended from Jack Kirby’s New Gods as opposed to Greek Mythology.

and like i dont care about any of that cuz whatever i dont read comics

but here's bruce timm's new harley

Yeah, that's pretty off-putting. I think that's probably the intent, to make people uncomfortable because that's what real art™ does and this is real art™, just terribly and thoughtlessly executed. "Artlessly" executed, even.

But yeah, not my bag either. There are enough real fridges full of torsos that I don't require any more fictional ones, thank you. And, god, there are better ways to sell deranged than half-assed lingerie.

Did they mix up someone's fanfic for an actual "to publish" document?

Considering Harley's MO is an utter obsession with the Joker, what's he looking like?

Considering Batman is a Vampire and Quinn is..

My guess is Joker is a marmot

I'm a big fan of Wonder Woman, and Catwoman is okay, but I've been less than impressed by everything else so far (then again I havent tried very much else since I keep dumping money on Xstuff), and they constantly shoot themselves in the foot PR wise.

Plus what dumbass approves of half-page ads?

Also WW being a New God could work.

Making any character a vampire is dumb (jubilee).

Eh, DC has some pretty good animated films. Flashpoint Paradox, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Dark Knight Returns (1 & 2), Justice League: New Frontier, Crisis on Two Earths, and several others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Also Young Justice (tv series) was pretty good. Can we also count Justice League and JL Unlimited despite them being pretty old now?

But this thing? Oh god this thing looks terrible.

The WW one is also good.

This is so loving bad.

edit: OK shoulders-up is fine.
edit the second: No, wait, it's not. At least, taken as whole, it's not.
I think I'd be a big fan of the hair and her face/expression if it wasn't paired with that outfit, though.

I get that she's so suppose to look insane but this just screams lazy. They really could have done better.

I always find it funny how Harley's "insane" sexualization is just basically totally normal male-gaze pandering.

She's just wearing sexy lingerie. That's it.

In the Arkham games she's in a sexy nurse outfit.

The "crazy" thing is it's slightly dirty and torn up a bit.

OMG HOW CRAZY.

They could do the "uncomfortably sexy" angle with her better if that's really what it was about, but we all know that isn't what it's about.

Definitely. http://i.imgur.com/w2zUWLj.png could make for a neat take on Harley.

This series just seems like it's trying too hard to be edgy and different to get people to watch it, and that just makes me think that the creator has little faith in writing good characters and interesting arcs.

hrmmm, I wonder if they'll be making the Superman-Zodd relationship anything like Invincible-Omniman?

As for Harley: keep the face, and just dress her up as Melaine Martinez, that'd be good enough for me.

Supposedly Timm's intent was to make her a parody of the recent design evolution that Harley has undergone in the comics and now the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, which is fine except that he just, you know, continued that trend in practice.

But the whole thing was just laughably bad. The idea of an Elseworld where everything that could possibly go wrong with character origins does (Man-Bat being Batman, Superman being the son of Zod instead of Kal-El, Harley being whatever the fuck that was, etc.) is vaguely interesting but the execution was just 581245419081edgy968742365135me.

Good lord DC, stop making me regret being a Batman fan. Please. I LIKE liking Batman and other DC heroes, but you keep making it harder and harder to pretend the awesomeness of the Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Arkham Asylum/City, and 1966 Batman aren't exceptions rather than the rule.

I mean, I was finally feeling self-confident enough to admit to people that I like superheroes, and now it's just going back to being too embarrassing to talk about in civilized company.

No, I'm pretty sure Bruce Timm's underwear-clad Harley Quinn is far more embarrassing than Roller Skate And Goofy Helmet Harley Quinn. Hell, even stripper nurse Arkham Asylum Harley is better than that.

Personally I can see her design working if it wasn't for the whole Joker thing. To make scary-sexy work you need the target of the affection to view it as twisted and disturbing. If they are fine with it then it loses alot of its impact.

In other words I think you can do this, just not with this character

I think that kind of goes too far. To me it should arouse you, but the fact it arouses you should be what bothers you. Like silent hill 2, the idea is to turn serialization into a disgusting thing. This would also make it a good commentary on her new design. This is why I said it wont work because the Joker is the target of the affection. If it was someone that would be disturbed by her interest the viewer could better empathize with her victim. With it being the Joker his positive or apathetic view of it would cause the viewer to sit safely in a position of the observer free to oogle her without much thought as to the danger a woman like this possesses.

They literally nailed Harley's design perfectly in her first iteration I dont understand why DC insists on changing it to something dumb every single time they make a new adaption.

Well she apparently dies a few minutes after her introduction so I guess they didn't care very much at all about the character. Hard to tell whether Gods & Monsters will be bad or good, I would say it's probably just "okay" like a lot of their films have been recently.

I would like to report on the recent films that Batman vs. Robin and Assault On Arkham were both very good (well, Assault on Arkham had the sexy Harley people are complaining about, but at least she had some characterization instead of being killed off after a few minutes), with Throne of Atlantis being, uh, serviceable, I guess. I really disliked Son of Batman but at least Batman vs. Robin was very enjoyable.

Batman vs. Robin is interesting in that it is an adaptation that mashes together the first arcs of two New 52 series, Batman and Batman & Robin, replacing Nobody (Morgan Ducard) from Batman & Robin with Talon, and sort of skillfully doing three arcs in a fairly short 80 minutes (Court of Owls, Night of the Owls, and as mentioned the Nobody arc from Batman & Robin). A few parts suffer for the time compression (the maze Batman is thrown into barely nets a minute or two of screentime despite being an entire issue of the comic), but I thought overall it made some pretty good choices on what to keep, what to cut, and what to replace (the removal of Bruce Wayne's evil brother was a good choice, if you ask me).

I loved Harley's cute and crazy design that actually looked like a clown harlequin, when I played Arkham Asylum, I cringed when I saw her and wow, they could go even lower.

I'm not even go deeper into her design changes.

She went from cute and crazy to crazy bitch to "look at my mummified family".

Also, no, I don't know other Harleys out od the DCAU, the Arkham games and that abomination on the first post.
