-Ok, first question: have any of you read Robert H. Heinlein's Starship Troopers? If yes, was is infinitely better than the movie, or are you an inhumanly cretinous dope? If no, just say so, and we can give you the gist of it.
-Second question: How would ya'll like to play an RP in that world?
-Third question: If yes, where would you like to start, e.g. boot camp, on your transport, in a battle, etc...

do tell!

I have not read the book, but this sounds like an interesting RP. Do explain.

I saw the movie if that counts. An RP set in that world would be good.

It's a pretty good story, basically, in the late 21st century, all the great Democracies teamed up against all the Authoritarian/communists in a hugungous war that resulted in the fall of all the planet's governments. Skip a century and a half, when order has been restored and the whole world is one big country that has finally produced viable space travel technology, as well as faster-than-light drives. With this, Humans expanded into space and, with Terra (earth , are known as the Terran Federation. I'll detail life in the federation in the morning, as it's extremely important to the story, but for now, know that the Terran Federation has been at war with two other races, The Skinnies (lanky humanoids), and the Bugs (similar to the Movie bugs, but with techology). I'll detail the bugs in the morning as well. To leave you at a cliffhanger, you will be filling the role of a squad of Mobile Infantry cap troopers. Where you start, if this gets off the ground, will be decided later.

Yes, I know this is all very vague, and perhaps someone else could supply an exceedingly better synopsis while I get some sleep.

I assume the Starship Troopers are the ones int he series and use jetpacked power armors and all... sounds good. I'll be the medic.

I haven't read the books... however, as soon as you said (typed? I read what you had typed and it was?) "Starship Troopers" I thought of that propaganda commercial from the movie with the kids stepping on roaches: "Everyone's doing their part!"

...If it's going to have stuff like that in it, it definately sounds good.

I have not seen the movie nor the book (I know what it is though, and have seen some of the TV series shows), but the movie was better. Why? Because books suck and movies are good. A picture is worth 1000 words, which means all movies are at least 1000 times better then there book counterparts.

Sure, and anything after boot camp.

That is not true. A movie cannot possibly explain everything that a book can, so that makes the books slightly better that the movies*.

Sounds like it could be really fun. One little question what are the postions to b filled. I.E. Will there be medics or maybe a resident physic in the mix. Just a bunch of infantry would be pretty limited in the kinds of missions they could do. I'm also interested in how the ranking system will work. This is about the military after all.

How bout a unit similar to a firebat in SC.

SC came into my mind too when I read this. I don't think I'll join , but I'm going to say one thing. Books are better then movies, because there is a bigger selection of them. Thats all.

I want to read the books, does that count?

Either way, I'd be game for a...uh....game.

Well, if they made the movie based on the book, then the movie would be much better than the book, if only because the book is much better written than the movie was made.

Questions are good, but answers are better:
-Dante, you're exactly right.
-Krylo, you're on the ball, there will be propaganda
-h4x, Most cap troopers are similar to firebats, only better
-Sith, rankings will go like this:
Enlisted: (Bottom=lowest)
First Sergeant, most commonly called "Platoon Sergeant" (isn't directly in control of the platoon, because that's the Platoon CO's responsibility, but is almost always the most battle hardened and experienced, his opinion in combat is always taken as gospel by the platoon CO)
Sergeant a.k.a "Buck Sergeant" (Has command of one or more squads in a platoon, can begin "bucking" for an officer's commission)
Corporal (sometimes has squad responsibilities)
Lance Corporal (has some command responsibilities over 2 or 3 subordinates)
Private First Class (just not the lowest anymore)
Private (Enlistee)

Most, if not all of you will be Enlisted, unless you have a damn good reason and an even better story for being an officer. There won't be more than one.

Officer's ranks(for reference):
"Medium-tall" or 2-star General (Division Commander)
"Short" or 1-star General (Brigade Commander)
Colonel (Regimental Commander)
Lt. Colonel (Batallion commander)
Major (Batallion commander)
Captain (Company commander)
1st lieutenant (typically has Platoon command)
2nd Lieutenant (Has platoon command)
[3rd lieutenant (in OCS)]

Navy (Space Fleet) Officer's Ranks:
Admirals do all sorts of crazy stuff
Captain (Typical assignment to pilot larger transports and capital ships)
Commander (Typically assigned to pilot a troop transport or other non-capital ship)
Lieutenant Commander (Can have a ship to fly)
Lieutenant (Works on bridge closely with Skipper)
Lieutenant Junior Grade (Works on the Bridge)
Ensign (Newbie, learning the way about a ship)

Standing over everyone is the Sky Marshall, commander-in-chief of the Terran Federation's Armed forces everywhere. He must have previously attained the rank of Admiral in the Navy, as well as an officer's commission in the Army, specifically the M.I.

If you're that interested in becoming an officer, PM me and I'll tell you what you have to do.

I'll do it. Although I don't know much, I still do like the concept of Starship Troopers and would be glad to do something with it.
