:bmage: easily. He jsut has the most humor revolving around him. He has the problems with White Mage, the constant hatred of Thief because he took voer the group, the constant hatred of Fighter becuase he was too stupid to not let Thief take over, and his constant hatred of Red Mage becuase his plans suck. And he casts the spells that makes people fall down.

I was going to go and Twink out like Rdm does because he is my second favorite, but I like Fighter best, He is the smartest in his own sense, and plus well he uses swords cmon! That and he fights the Fire Boss Sword to Sword. Mano on Girl lady snake type spider thing. and and Fighterdouken! :p

Fighter can't be the smartest, read the comic where RM is introduced. It's called "Introductions are in order" (or something along those lines) I don't remember the number though, I think 30-something

EDIT: Also see the comic named "It's okay to make fun of Fighter because he's stupid", and I don't see how anyone can be intelligent after the several stabs in the head he's endured from BM.

There's more evidence pointing to Fighter being the stupidest rather than the startest. Even though the author (or Thief) says something doesn't make it true. They are all idiots in their own way except Thief.

In intelligence and common sense (for the main characters only) I'd say the rank ups are

1. White Mage*
2. Thief*
3. Red Mage
4. Black Mage
5. Fighter
6. Black Belt (May he rest in peace)

Fighter is just smart enough to use his stupidity to his advantage.

:bbelt: Values his dignity majorally ("I'm not gay!"), but is directionally challenged to the point that it boggles the mind.
:thief: Never reveals his inner self, doesn't like or hate the other characters and basically uses them to further his own personal goals. Yeah, I think I got that right...

RM is arguably the most developed character, plus he experienced the holy class change first. Thats just an opinion though.

Btw, I think we need a favourite dark warriors and other warriors thread. (that is if rogue becomes more developed)

BM because, well, not only is he a BM, but he's a super powerful BM. And he's amusing.
Thief because of Law Ninja, his contracts, and how he steals everything that is not nailed down or on fire.

Black Mage is the, hm, how to say it...true embodiment of...the chaotic darkness that would consume the world if not for the fact his so-called inferior "friends" continue to interfere with his plans, and have unusual luck to be able to avoid every attempt he has made to obliterate them! His love for stabbing and violence attracts me to his love for stabbing and violence. Wait, does that make even the slightest sense? Well, I say it does. Problem is, I'm not one so well with writing contracts like Thief...who incidentally, is my third favorite -- no law ninjas please -- with Fighter in second, White Mage in Fourth, Red Mage in fifth, and the rest undecided.

It really doesn't surprise me that BM is the most popular. I myself like his obvious genius, its a shame things don't go his way most of the time, but if they dont the problem usually ends up dead, stabbed,hadokened or any combination of the three. Second place is RM becuase his logical genius is the other half of BMs genius (i am too frikin repetitve. ...genius ... genius... etc.) and because of his "cold fission"-like ideas. Those tend to be funny

I find it humorous that Fighter's bar is blue, and Black Mage's bar is red. I'm tired, and I know I'm definately not the first person to say it.

Voted for Fighter, by the way. The one who can master the art of sword-chuckery (am I hyphenating that right?) deserves the title of... um... The One?

And Red Mage's bar is pink wich totally fits his crossdressing tendencies. :D

But, eh, I wonder if Fighter will become some sort of sword-chucks master with his class change... And what will become of Thief and Black Mage too.
I hope they get "powerupped" too! ^^

I, like many others, am a Black Mage fan. Who hasn't wanted to stab the idiots around them to death at one point or another?
Red Mage is my second favorite. I identify with his nerdiness, and he has great fashion sense. His new outfit is even spiffier than the old one!
Thief is one of the few sane characters, and you've gotta love his thieving skills. As such, he gets an honorable mention.
As for White Mage: Kind & gentle nature+giant hammer=win. She too gets an honorable mention.

Well the obvious answer is Thief, he can find five ways to rob you of your dignity and use it against you for the rest of time, he can steal things that aren't there, and....BECAUSE HE'S THIEF :D need i say more...then there's Black Mage, with his all powerfull Hadoken, that's the only part other than his pure evillness and and the rest of it that makes for a fun character, he preys on the stupidity of others, not to the extent of thief mind you....but if you piss him off be wary of Hadokens flying your way at point Blank Range :D does the fun ever end???

How do you figure? He and Black Mage both appeared in the first comic and have just about the same number of appearances. He hasnt been gone into in great depth, Theif wins hands down for most backstory. The plot doesn't revolve around him either.

We must belive that the Pen is mightier then the sword but sword-chucks are greater then swords so they could defeat a pen. But pen-chucks could then defeat sword chucks... but how could you write with pen chucks for the meaning behind the phrase is that "Ones writeing can do more damage then a blade" atleast with sword chucks you can have the possibility of weilding them but useing pen-chucks to write is impossible...

Quite a cunundrum indeed.

If you can use swordchucks to dash an enemy to pieces without cutting your own arm off, you can write with a penchuck. Generally, you just wield 'em at the paper till it's done.
I really do have penchucks. You know those security pens, with the chains? I disconnected a couple, then connected the chains together. It's quite literally two pens connected with a chain.

Agreed. I hate having to choose a class when I'm all by my lonesome...

But as far as 8-Bit Theater goes, there's just something about BM that makes him my favorite. Maybe it's the fact that he's often incompetent despite acting like the one member who isn't, maybe it's the black magic, maybe it's the cute way he acts around White Mage(well... it's not cute all the time...). Perhaps all three.

But it's probably the Hadoken.

I read this comic for Black Mage. I must figure out that being's thinking processes. He's rather paradoxical - he has immense destructive power, yet constantly allows himself to get borked over by obviously lesser beings, and somehow finds it within himself to lust after a goody two-shoes white mage. Seriously, contracts may be binding, and law ninjas may be intimidating, but neither paper nor ninja-flesh holds up well to a scorching ball of hellfire or a blast of love-turned-subatomic-annihilation. Thus, I am amazed that BM still allows Thief to exist, and to moreover, hold power over the rest of the Light(bulb) Warriors. With Thief out of the way, he and Fighter are free to ditch or ignore RM and continue doing what they ORIGINALLY were doing - profiting themselves.

Well, Fighter. A Canadian friend of mine introduced me to 8BT, and we were reading it out loud. I was promptly assigned to Fighter, as she started off by reading out Black Mage's voice.
So, actually, I began with the majority, a Black Mage fan. But, by comic 5, I was inseparably attached to Fighter, unable to ever believe that I had preferred the stabbity little bastard to the cute little knight-in-training.
That happens to me a lot, really. We're reading Romeo and Juliet in school, and I signed up for Benvolio, just to try out a somewhat small part. Now he's easily my favorite character in the whole play. Just like with Fighter, I find myself doodling him everywhere...

Last night I was sitting around the kitchen table at my sister's house playing a ten-hour D&D session. My 17-year-old nephew was DMing because he's about to go to boot camp (finished high school and signed up with the Marines, he did) and we want to get through as much of his campaign as possible before he leaves. It's really well thought out - lots of story, lots of killing, lots of coolness.

At one point, my 15-year-old nephew (a halfling rogue) starts going pickpocket-happy. A friend who was playing with us (human, fighter, formerly a town guard) wanted to catch him at pickpocketing.

After 15 minutes of listening to "I caught you" "No you didn't" "Make an opposed spot check" "Can I flank him?" in the middle of the game my older nephew had worked so hard to craft I realized I was going insane. I HAD to do something. So I grabbed the forks out of two of the cherry pie plates still left on the table from our 2 am snack, reached out, and smacked them both on the head shouting, "Stabbity DEATH!"

And lo, looking at the streaks of cherry pie filling on my fellow gamers' faces (and observing their stunned expressions and sudden silence) I realized that problems really can be solved through violence. Hitting people with kitchen utensils really does make me feel better. And I suspect that somewhere, deep down, we've all had a Black Mage moment like the one I had last night.

So the next time you want to rear-end that guy who cut you off or slap that clerk who can't understand why you gave her $20.02 to pay for a $14.77 game or perhaps when you just want to pour frozen concentrated orange juice into your boss's Jetta's gas tank, remember that maybe, just maybe, there's a little Black Mage in you too.

My favorites switch like crazy. First it was Fighter, but then Thief came along, but he grew out of being the coolest during the Elfland Arc. So then I joined the legion of Black Belt fans, took a quick take back to Thief before being a Black Belt fan again. But, then, of course, the tragic death of Black Belt (does this count for the black-out spoiler rule?) left me without a favorite. I went to King Steve, then Red Mage. Now-a-days, it's usually a fight between King Steve and Red Mage. And Brian, don't you dare kill off either of them like the awesomeness that was Black Belt. But if you do, at least make it worth it!

Theif is by far my favorite character. Even black mage gets messed up by theif's contracts.

I'm gonna have to go with Fighter not because of his ability to take more stabs to vital organs than imaginable, but because of his unexplained ability to provide the right solution to a problem that nobody else can come up with.

Fighter is my favorite, but I also clicked Garland becuase I think he's awesome too.

I feel like I can relate to them most, you know.
People like thief and BM and RM are just too screwed up.

I also like Bikke, but he's a follower, and I'm a leader. Like Garland. It doesn't matter how ridiculously stupid I am, I can inspire people, somehow, anyway.

Black Mage, because I find his evil and often irrational antics quite amusing, and because as grossly hideous as his actions can be sometimes (like when he murdered almost half a townful of NPCs), he still somehow manages to represent the "softer" side of bad-ness. Also, because he's got a real human element to him. It was just a coupla of strips way back in the day (I don't even remember what number or what part of the story arc they were in), but he wrote some kind of note that basically described what it was like to be Black Mage, and I found it really touching.

Fighter's just plain absurd, and I really like that. Also, half the time he's right without even knowing how or why. I also think it's pretty cool that you rarely actually see him sword-ing, just the panel before he acts, and the incredible carnage he can bring afterwards. (Also because of swordchucks and me-dokens)

I would've felt bad about voting for more than 2, but I'd like to put in an honorable mention for Dr. Swordopolis, just 'cause the good Doctor makes me happy. ^_^

My choice goes for the Black Mage as he is the character I can relate most to.

Every day, every hour I am among other people, someone will do/say something stupid (since I am a TA in a chemistry lab this happens way way too often to be good!) I just want to take a knife, the same kind BM has, and to stab.

Not necessarialy to kill, but to just stab that moron that decides that he cannot see the reaction going inside his test tube, which, among other things, contains sulphiric acid, clearly enough through safety goggles and takes his goggles off, puts his eye withing millimeters of that test tube, gets lucky not to have the solution and then cries after I penalize his grade for THAT. I just want to repress that White Mage part in me, take BM's knife and STAB STAB STAB!!!!

Black Mage is the most alive character on this comic strip. In fact, I'd say he is the most alive cartoon character I've ever seen.

WM is ok,i like her especially cuz she gives BM part of his come uppance. I strongly believe in goodness, so no villains, not even silly garland. And 4 BM... Its a sad day when a homicidal maniac, bent on mindless destruction for fun and power is the most popular character in a webcomic.Bm should have been permanently killed, not BB. For me it was between BM, WM, and Evil Princess Sara. But BM became the obvious choice, really, since the girls really only have being girls in their favor in my mind. Although Sara may well be the only genuinely smart character in the story.

easily. He jsut has the most humor revolving around him. He has the problems with White Mage, the constant hatred of Thief because he took voer the group, the constant hatred of Fighter becuase he was too stupid to not let Thief take over, and his constant hatred of Red Mage becuase his plans suck. And he casts the spells that makes people fall down.
I like him too.. but.. is it just me, or is he getting less evil? in the last couple of comics he does not seem as evil as he used to be...
