Metroid Prime or The Vampire Lestat?

I can't decide which to do. I demand arguments detailing the finer aspects of either activity, and comparisons between each.

Have at thee!

Since Anne Rice sucks, but Metroid rules, I'll go with Metroid Prime.

I mean, come on. No contest.

Well you can always do BOTH, can you not? I read at night, so I assume everyone else does too.

Play Metroid Prime in the day and read in bed. Thus you have killed two birds with one stone! Bwahaha!

But if you really have to choose: I'ds ay metroid. It's a cinematic experience.

I say you should play Metroid Prime. I never read the book, but I do know that Metroid Prime takes over your life until you beat it at least once, so play the game.

Buy the game. Games>Books.

Really, what is more fun. Reading some words about some boring vampire, or controlling a chick in a power suit and blowing stuff up?

I guess my mind is made up for me. :B

Book. Game systems do no good. Only computers, TVs, and DVD players are worthwhile electronics.

I got fed up with Metroid Prime's crappy controls after the third boss. I've never read TVL, but it can't be as bad as Metroid Prime.

I've never played Metroid Prime, nor have I read Interview with a Vampire (or is "The Vampire Lestat" the name of the book? I've only heard of Lestat from interview with a vampire.)

But my friends really love books with vampires and Lestat in them, so it must be pretty good. Also, reading is good for you and fun. ^^

On the other hand, I can see where Metroid Prime would be fun also. ^^ I've always loved the Metroid games and I'm sure that one is decent as well.

(there's an argument for both)

Metriod would be better. And I would normally go for a book over a video game. Its just that Prime is such an awesome game. It took me forever to get 100% in that game.

Prime, being first person, made me sick to my stomach (take away my peripheal vision and I get ill), where as Rice has incredibly wonderful writing abilities, especially when concerning description.

Prime also had shitty controls, like DI said.

I vote for the book.

The problem with most people and Metroid Prime was that fact that most expected it to have a Halo-esque control style. While I believe that the option should've been given to the player, the existing layout works fine once you get used to it.

As one of the developers said, think of it as a first-person adventure, not a shooter.

I have no comment on the book, since I've never heard of it...

I've never played Halo. I just didn't like the fact that, since I couldn't independantly control my movement and viewing direction, I'd have to go around corners blind and it was hard as hell to get a decent idea of what my surroundings were like. The FPS/FPA thing is irrevelant. Even if I never had to fire a gun for the entire duration of the game, that control system would still have rendered it nearly unplayable (although it wouldn't have been quite as bad in that case since I could just stick with the scanning visor instead of having to switch from scanning mode to combat mode every two seconds. God, I hated that visor system.)

If you decide to not buy Metroid for whatever reason, I suggest buying a different game before you get the book.

Yah. What DI said. I was going to just mention that I don't care if it's an adventure, an FPS, a platformer, or a side scroller, I shouldn't have to push three buttons every time I want to fire with any sort of accuracy.

I agree, Halo's controlls sucked.

Shiney, I reccomend you read the book.

Well, I wrote this great paragraph about how Prime's controls weren't so bad and such, and my stupid browser messed up. So, since I'm to lazy to type it agian, I'll give you this.

Just hold L to strafe around coners, though its hardly nessasary(sp?). Most of the action comes from the bosses. I didn't think the controls were that bad. They were hard at first, but by the time you get of the frigate I was so used to them I didn't think much about it. Though, my freinds do say I a quick learner when it comes to games. Whatever, once you get used to them they work perfectly fine.

If you use the L-button to strafe around corners then that means that you have to face the wall first, which leaves you just as blind as doing it the normal way, just in the other direction. And that was only one of the problems introduced by MP's control setup. You still can't look around you while you move, which makes it very difficult to stay aware of your surroundings and keep track of which one of the game's dozens of nearly identical rooms you're in.

Tunnel vision has always been a problem in first-person games, but giving you free control over your viewpoint as most FPSs do alleviates that quite a bit. In Metroid Prime, on the other hand, I always felt like I was wearing blinders.

MasterOfMagic

Hmm. I never got confused by the rooms. They always seemed different enough that I could tell which one I was in. Plus, there's a map.

As for the blinders thing, you can always only turn part of the way. turn so your diagonal to the corner. Plus, when you want to see around corners your almost always in a corridor. Meaniing that your being blind for a spilt second isn't a problem, b/c your "blind" to bare walls. If there was anything there, you would have already seen it.

It's still annoying, and I don't play games to be annoyed. That's what real life's for.

Let's see... sketchy story that you have to work through, or good story that's easy to do... go with the book, since it won't induce carpal tunnel syndrome.

Well, Metroid is a classic, but prime, as has been stated, has a wonky control system and is for the less than stellar gamecube system (can any game on that system have good controls? I mean, that controller had to have been designed by satan himself, it's even worse than the X-box controller, the big one!) and although it does contain the regular level of quality expected from it's franchise, it is also an extraordinarily frustrating game.
The Vampire Lestat is a remarkably well written book, although I do get the feeling that every vampire she (Anne Rice) has ever created is whiny and self absorbed, they are also incredibly detailed books, with excellent description and remarkable philosophical ideas, as well as a number of great quotes.
I'd suggest the book, although if you haven't read Interview with the vampire (or is it interview with a vampire? I can never remember), it is rather pointless to read this one first, as it's a sequal. If you have, by all means read the book.

Meh, if "The Vampire Lestat" is anything like, "Interview With a Vampire", then I would say game. I wasn't too impressed with it. If you want a vampire book, read "Dracula".

Dracula > Angsty Vampires

As for the game, I have never played it, so I cannot comment.
