... or are things getting more quiet around here than usual? Its as if a great deal of the population simply stopped posting. I seem to remember earlier this year, over 20 users on even late at night. I haven't seen much more than 20 on all day. Thoughts?

I've noticed this too. Don't like the trend much. I've been missing for a day, and their are very (very very) few new threads or posts. Normally when I miss a day or so, I kick myself b/c I miss a great thread. Its almost disapointing.

It's called the end of summer and/or getting a job. Less people have increasingly less time to spend here. I, however, will continue to waste my ever shortening life here as usual.

It happens on the NPF in cycles. We get booms and busts of activity. Just ride this out for awhile and we'll get a lot of activity again soon enough. Way of the world, and all that.

I just found it odd that it happened when so many people here are, I assumed, blessed with more free time than they had during the school year.

ive noticed a significant reduction in my own posts, due in part to summer classes, City of Heroes, and a general disintrest in message boards as a whole.

Summer is coming to a close I guess. No matter, I will continuely waste my life here as well. I won't have to get a job until I can drive after all, and that will be in February. Crappy late birthday and all.

i remember the older days of the 8-bit forum in the TWC where, literally, days would go by without a post in any given section. sometimes up to to a week or more.

February birthdays late and crappy?? that can't be, at least u dont have a may or june birthday and be the last person in ur grade to be of driving age.

but if you aren't old enough for work, you have camps.

My birthday is in August. And I won't be able to drive until February. Six months with only a permit and all. Everyone in my grade can already drive. Except me. That is why late birthdays suck.

[on topic] While we may have fewer posts, most of the posts are actually decent and thought-out. Better that than the dumbass posters who would post the stupidest thing you could think of.

I blame a combination of Deus Ex, Painkiller, and Bittorrent. It's just more fun then endlessly debating nerdy things with people on the internet.

But I still love you guys. :)

I blame it on the combo of vacation and lack of communication. I have neither of those and alot of free time on my hands so I'll probably be here for the whole summer, then fall back on school time.

Yeah, the summer slowdown happens everywhere online. You'd think it would be the opposite, but...people are too busy messing around in in real life to be worried about messing around on message boards.

Except for die-hards like us, of course. :p

I usualy post here every other day, more or less. I have virtually no obligations this summer. No jobs or camps or anything like that. I've just been playing DnD, videogames, swimming, and making foam weapons for battle. My summer has been pretty open. But, as the summer comes to a close, so does everyones free time. I will still be here durring the school year. (Maybe durring a trip to the computer lab ;) )

Well I have been gone for several months. Mostly due to the lack of funds needed to keep the net. Plus in my infinite wisdom I decided to go to summer college so I can hurry up and start making some real money in the real world. Yeah college cutt my time and my money, so what, at least I'm back to what I call a normal life with with a day going like this.

8:30 Wake up
9:15 Go to class
12:00 Get out of class
12:15 Wonder how to pay the cell bill
12:20 Eat a cup of noodles
1:00 Get ready for work
2:00 Clock in for work at Bi-Lo
6:00 Curse my job and sad life while on break
6:30 Well put up a smile and go back to work
10:30 Get off work and go to the place I call home
10:55 Eat whatever I got at the local Fast food place
11:20 Finish watching Family Guy on Adult Swim and go to sleep

Well being the Nightwalker of the group(my self-proclaimed status, since I've sometimes been on at night by myself, and other times with just a handful of others), my problem simply comes from the fact everyone else is asleep while I'm doing what I do in the late hours of the night. Thus either all the good threads have already been exhausted, or there's no one around to reply to my comments, thus no comments for me to reply to, and so on and so forth. Not to mention I sometimes get discouraged when all the mods on the board don't [know/tell me] who closed my thread prematurely and why(-hint hint, Brian-) and just kinda don't feel like responding to anything. And I also got(notice past tense there) in the Battle Thread when people were insulting me and contradicting themselves at the same time, so I've stopped posting there. And all the RPing threads seem to be either: two-or-three people playing, or fads that die quickly, so I don't join those too often. And...okay, the list is getting too long for why I've pretty much slowed down, so I'll stop the list for now.

I think one reason it's so slow here is the lack of spam. I'm not saying that spam is good, or that having rules against it is bad, merely that forums that have more spam tend to also be more active, as there are threads people post in without having to stop and wonder 'is this worth while? will I get banned for this?' which is a very legit fear for many new people here. I only post maybe half of my possible replies, simply because I don't think they're important enough to say.

The Mirror Emperor
07-29-2004, 09:25 PM
I sorta agree with that.....everyone knows responding to a spam or making a spam thread gets you banned, but when someone does there's always 6 to 7 people jumping up to report a bad post, sorta like to be the good guy.

I'm having something cut out in late August, and will be bed-ridden until the beginning of school, so, posting=no.

But so does band camp, and I am teh happy!

Otaku, if you want RPing goodness, why not check out Avariel? (www.avariel.net/forums)

-Shrug-I'm just simply stating that this board's lack of "RPing goodness" is one reason I've cut down in that area.

Actually, I'd consider the 'RP group' to be quite closed to the public, myself. Granted, I only made a 3/4 hearted effort to join, but the point still stands.

I only RP at other forums... this one's RP still seems very odd to me.

Oh, and about spam, I love that idea of a thread category just for spam, that's what my favorite site has.

(Trust me: I'm young, random, and apparently bad at spelling)

(Trust me: I'm young, random, and apparently bad at spelling)Young, I wouldn't know. Random, potentially. Bad speller? That post suggests otherwise.

I've also noticed we've managed to trim down on spammers and such. I partake in two other large forums, and some of the people there are just plain creepy, and not in the tolerable way like yours truly.

The mods and admins have heard this idea many times, this will be a spam free zone. If you want spam go to the gaia boards. They love it. We don't like spam.

yea, Its the same with me, im only on late, so theres nobody to curse at/converse with. And Im kind of intimidated about rping here, I guess, since I havent yet.

Edit: oh, and dont worry bout them, Otaku, You just tell it like it is, and they get angry bout that.

City of Heroes is my excuse. Before CoH, when I was bored, I would often come here, or Homestarrunner.com. Now I go bash things on CoH.

I just have had less and less reason to post here, finding less topics (on average compared to the other two forums in which I am fairly active) that in which I have any desire to post. That's certainly no one's fault (if anything, it's merely a difference in my pesonal taste and everyone else's), but it's fairly clear to me that I can go a while between posts and not feel as though I've missed anything.

i think the biggest reason that the flood of activity stops is because during it we talk about any thing and everything and then we cant think of anything to say.. so we leave our pcs and go find things to chat about .. this process takes 6-8 weeks

I believe that the Forum is slowing down simply because so many people are going on vacation.

I didn't post for about 4 days because I took my little break, Osterbaum is on vacation now, and I am sure that many are also taking breaks. With less people around to post, those that are around have less topics to post on, thus fewer posts. It is basically "make your own and hope they come."

Just wait until September, It'll pick up again.
