if you have a windows machine (i'm assuming you do but if i'm wrong, let me know), right click on the link and then left click on "save target link" or something to that extent. then a "save as" box should come up with the file name in it. just click on "ok" or "save", which ever the case may be

Is there a reason why the pages in the PDF's are not uniform in size?
I mean on the web site, when we are reading them, they are all shown at the same size and Rez. For the most part. But in the PDF's the later pages keep getting larger.
How did this happen?
Is there any way to fix it?

If you could be spacific, I could help. Some comics are posted in diferent sizes which I did not alter. It is set (or should be) to auto scale to fit the image width to your viewible area.
if you have episode numbers to reference, I will take a look and see.

In a way it is set the way you intended but the page images later in the PDF are larger than the ones earlier in it kinda like the images grow as you continue thru it.
Edit: To get a clear picture of what I am describing set it to view continous and then click fit width.

Why does this file open differently than all my other pdfs? As soon as I open it, it expands to almost the full screen, and removes my toolbars. Am I the only one with this problem?

umm what program do you use to view them?
Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Fairly common program used to transfer and edit text for printing. Very used too for pirated comics.
It's free, I tell you! FREE!

That is because the files all aren't the same size, and using fit width zooms in so the whole comic fits completely across the window.
Just do 100%, don't do the zoom.

yes I would pay for a book of them (even though I could just make my own right now). It would be pretty awsome, and think of all the money, of course copywrite laws and printing costs could make things hairy but lets not go there... EVER.

book 6 is nearing compleation (it is up to date with the current commic)
I want to take the time to thank that all those who have donated funds to help keep the files availible. If you would like to help out, I only ask that you check out the first post in this thred for the donation link. The donations I recive so far have only covered about 20% of the cost of hosting, but I want people to realize that I appreciate all the support I do get!!
If in the event that I ever get more that the amount I spend, I will forward it on to Brian to help with his expences.
I hope everyone enjoys the work and time that has been spent to make sure that this great commic will be arround for manny years to come.

I apreciate all those who have donated in the past, and all those who will eventually donate. Keep in mind I do not make any money on this project. Any funds above and beyond my expeces go directly to Brian Clevinger (Owner/Creater of 8-Bit). So far I have not even come close to covering my costs, not that I can not afford to keep hosting the files. I would just like to take a moment to solicit some donations for the cause...

I must have not noticed that, I fill fix it later today and put an update note on the first page.

I have confirmed that the picture is missing from my archive, but becouse it is no longer posted on the site, it is lost to time unless someone has a copy saved. If you have one, I would be happy to update my archive. If not I might just remove that page...

Unfortunately, it seems that the server I have been using is either out of commision, or just very messed up, but I can't seem to reach it from here. I'll try another connection tomorrow if I get the chance, but I may have to retry my mirroring later when I finally build my own server and get it on the 'net. Sorry for any inconvieniences this may cause. I will keep you updated as the status progresses.

You will need a full version of Adobe Acrobat (not the reader) or a similar product, and a bunch of free time. I stored the individual files and added them the the document as individual pages. It is alot of work, but it is worth it fot archiving a great comic.

only 2 more commics to go, and I will publish book 6.5!!
I'm all set to mirror it too...
Now just to play the waiting game....
Kroze's super sneaky EDIT (TM):
Um.. I was reading ebook 1 again and around episode 67, thought something was wrong...
And sure enough there was...
I remembered a comic ending with the joke from BM: "Blue Robes?!?" which starts the whole rant in 67 about BM not doing anything to any old man...
Yet it couldn't be found...
I could of sworn there was a comic in between 66 and 67 ending with that joke...
So I checked in the archives...
It now appears that 67 STARTS with that joke that ISN'T in ebook 1...
You might want to fix that...
But that leads to another problem....
If you notice in the Archive version of 67 the "Blue Robes" joke frames look outta place....
I just KNOW there was another comic there....
Is the Truth REALLY out there?

This MIGHT have been discussed already, but I searched for "dance" in as many variations I could think of and went back through most of the pages here and could not find it, so meh.
Waaaaay back in Interlude 00 (after episode 68) there's a gif of Black Mage and Brian dancing, but it's not included in the interlude. I wouldn't even bother mentioning it, if it were not for the fact that it's the punchline of that particular page.
i never did get to thank you guys for putting these on pdf format
i've read all of 8 bit theather about 4 times this school year in the computer lab, my teacher went nut on me on the 4th time and had some "priviledges" removed.

Hey all!
Good news and bad. I'm mirroring again. But the mirror server is my laptop, and won't always be online. I'm working on building a server to dish out my web pages and such to the world, but have found myself suddenly missing the approximately US$950 that I had saved for the purpose. Something about having to eat or somesuch nonsense. So until I manage to locate the money I need to build a machine which will always be online, I'm mirroring this on my laptop.
But hey, I have an actual domain for it! Pay a visit to http://awswan.com to see what little I have online so far. I haven't had too much time available to do much with it, and since I'm coding the whole thing from scratch it might take a while to bring online. But we're not here to talk about my site! I've updated the links I posted earlier, and here's (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?p=321941) a link to that post so you don't have to search for it! Yay!
Anyhow, I'm off! See you all later!
- Sendoshin
P.S. In the rare case that somebody might be interested in helping me locate that US$950, here's a donation link for my Paypal account.

Unfortunately animations do not traslate to PDFs. I had debated about putting it back in (it was in there once), but it actually is worse having it in there as a still frame than not having it at all. I will put it in if enough people are interested in it. For now I have no plans on re-inserting it.

Much will depend on the thoughts of sircrowbar in this regard.

just a side note. i was reading the news posts at the bottom of the comics. (there just so darn witty) and i noticed that on the one underneath the gold embossed collectors edition one there was alink to a guest comic made by Sosa. i went to look in the archives to see if it was there and it was not. so if anyone has it and could post it here so i may read it and possibly SirCrowBar could p-lace it in the archives as well. just thought id mention it.

I have been working 80+ hours at work so I have not had a chance to complete the official "portable archive". It is in the works though. As soon as i get a little time to spare I should be able to release the first 4 sets. I hope to catch up to the current archive shortly after that. The new images go above and beyond because the file formats have been unified to PNG. I asked around to see what format people preferred and PNG seemed to be the preference. I will not make the portable archives into multiple file formats. I can view PNG on almost anything, so people will finally have a non PDF version of the worlds best web comic!
I will try to post them this weekend when I post the 7.5 archive.

Hey -
Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent free hosting site? I've got everything (up to #775 as of this post) for PSP and am willing to share it, but I need somewhere to upload it to.
This is without the extras though, but I suppose I could be persuaded to do something about that as well.
Edit: Okay, I took a quick little bit and did the extras. And that's everything, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the times when Brian just printed text onto a pic file. I'm missing Sosa's three comics (not that I remember them being that great) and possibly a couple other things in the extras section because I got the 404. If anyone has them and wants to send them to me for completeness, groovy. Now, on to find a place to host.

seriously, just put up the images in some other format and they would double as a psp set, it reads normal images you know -.- its not like you need to make some kind of "special" series of resized images for those people who never figured out the psp has a zoom function, or some "psp specific format" just give us jpegs for godsakes. (yes, it can play games AND read proprietary image formats. mind bending, i know) ... the only mildly difficult aspect about it would be to get the extras to display in their proper places under the PSPs unforgiving alphabetical organization... but nothing a bit of clever file naming cant fix...

Sorry for asking, if this is obvious, but can someone give me a link or explanation to whatever software or methods make PDF files exactly like the ones made available for download on the first post? I've tried to figure it out myself before resorting to asking you, but I've had no luck. Also, as soon as I come upon a means, I will donate to your cause... I'm long past due to do so anyway. I am also aware this isn't a help topic, but I can imagine no better place to ask, and would rather not haphazardly spend money where it won't fit the use I desired.
Thank you, whether or not you can or will answer my question/give a link, and

Yes, thank you indeed.
The only way that you would see a book of 8 bit is to take everything to kinko's and print it. At 49¢ printing it would only cost around $500. I might do it if if I get ahold of a bunch of money that I don't really need.
Or you could just print it yourself, but the ink would probably cost even more, not to mention the two or three printers you would kill in the process.

Hi, I've been a bit of a lurker around here for a while, so I finally figured it was time to sign up.
I've made an archive of episodes 601-700, all resized so they look nice on the PSP. Has anybody else done this? If not, I'm more than happy to redistribute it to anybody that wants it. My main problem is that all but one or two of them are as PNGs, meaning that they take a while longer to load on the PSP - and they're considerably bigger than the other files of "8-bit Theatre: PSP edition" that I have on my PSP. I don't really have much of a problem with this, but others who'd want to download it over the internet probably would, seeing as that it doesn't compress very well, thus it's pretty big, especially seeing as that it's only 100 pictures.
Is there anybody who knows a way to change the files to jpegs en masse? A friend of mine wrote a script for me so that I can resize several pictures at once, however it's a bit beyond my ability to change them all to jpegs... except manually, which I'd rather not go through. :-/
Once I've figured out a way to convert all the images to JPEG and found an appropriate host (or found somebody who will host this on my behalf, as I'm not exactly the most competent of people to go about this), I'll post a link... or something...
(Sorry if this is a bit of a 'newbie' post :-P )

Oh wow. For the past week or so I have been rereading through all the 8-bit comics and have been downloading them all as I was reading them. After a couple hundred I decided to actually look to see if anyone had already done it (Yeah I shoulda known >_>) and thank you to everyone who helped put together this collection. I was getting so sick of saving and renaming each and every one instead of just enjoying reading them.
:bmage::rmage::wmage::fighter::thief::bbelt:4L
EDIT: One thing I noticed when I was downloading all the comics was the Episode 67 was actually posted as 2 pictures instead of one on the site. And as I was going through this archive I noticed it was like that aswell, only the first part was saved and not the other. So I when into photoshop and put it together real quick so anyone else can also have the full page instead of only part of it.

Hope that helps.

Well I feel pretty thick for finding this after saving each episode in the archive individually...
Completely worthwhile though. :D
Are the last 70 comics going to be compiled then as a pdf or are we waiting for Brian to prove that there is more?

These should be uploaded to a site like Sharebee, or some other site that puts files on multiple file sharing sites. I'll be downloading these and then I might do this myself.
Not critisizing the uploader, it's just my personal opinion that rapidshare sucks. :P
Re-uploaded on Sharebee (I share the hate of RapidShare as well). 1101-1194 is added and the whole 1-1194 is added in cbz format.

Hey has anyone thought of doing a version for the PSP? I know I would love to be able to take these with me. So my request is a PSP version. Even if its just set up as a file folder with JPEG images in it that would work as well.

This is totally ridiculous.
I cant download anything without taking 50 surveys.
What the heck?

Yeah, not diggin' the Sharebee. >_>
I took the IQ survey and it doesn't seem to recognize that fact. So I can't download anything apparently.

12-12-2009, 09:08 AM
What's this about surveys? I'm not getting any, just links to the file on rapidshare, megaupload and some others, which all seem to work fine. I do get quite a few popup ads from Sharebee but nothing that would keep me from downloading. Can you guys describe exactly what you're doing to get re-routed to mandatory surveys?
Codemonkey85
12-14-2009, 12:24 PM
Well, Rapidshare told me the downloads had exceeded their limits unless I have a premium account, which I do not. I don't think I tried Megaupload yet, actually... I think I missed that link.
When I get home later, I will re-attempt the Sharebee links and see what happens. If I get the surveys again, I will take and document/annotate screenshots on Flickr or something.
Meister
12-14-2009, 12:26 PM
Alright. Just quickly popping in to say that that's pretty standard fare for Rapidshare. It's annoying but they have to keep in business somehow.
Codemonkey85
12-14-2009, 03:15 PM
What, the premium account? Yeah, I get it, and I'm not bitter or anything. I was just responding to your post thoroughly by explaining the steps I'd already taken to get what I want. And unfortunately, I do not feel that the amount of material I find myself downloading from Rapidshare quite sanctifies the cost of a premium membership.
Astrobot7000
12-14-2009, 06:17 PM
Yeah. Sharebee makes me take those surveys, and then never registers their completetion.
Meister
12-15-2009, 03:41 AM
I gathered that, I'm just curious how exactly that happens. Screenshots or something would be neat.
For reference, I'm just running ordinary Firefox with the popup blocker on and an add-on installed to block flash content. So either not everyone's getting surveys or it's really easy to work around them.

Okay, picture time.
First, I click on the link to Sharebee (for this example I used the cumulative collection at the bottom of AVW's post (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=989258&postcount=177)). From there:
STEP 1 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/codemonkey85/4187901114/)
I click on the "Download" link.
STEP 2 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/codemonkey85/4187901116/)
I take this IQ test.
EDIT:
STEP 3: I notice the link to Megaupload right below the aforementioned "Download" button. That... that will work. :\

don't click the "Download" link on the top... click the links that point to the individual sites. Takes you straight to that site's download site for the file.

Why, WHY am I only aware of this now?
Also, I wish there was a way to include all of the particularly hilarious news updates that Brian had done.
Finally, will there be anyone putting the rest of these together? I could easily make up the .rar packages (with Brian's permission), but have no place to upload them. Except possibly ifile.it.

Does anyone have an idea of how much it'd cost in print cartridges or going to a store to print some of the pages out? I'd absolutely love to have all of these available to read, but I feel like that's going to cost a ridiculous amount of money...

It seems Brian is making a finale after all.
I suppose the person who makes the final ebook should hold out until he releases it.
