Couldn't you have just used Flash, Loyal?
I'm kidding, it's awesome. Nice excuse to loop, man. I didn't know such a spell existed. I guess I should play FFV, shouldn't I?

Hurrah! The awesomeness of Melfice returns in another installment of JAQ!
I like it, yes... [/Beast Wars Megatron voice]
Also, nice job on the other stuff in here, including the pirate comic. That one was cool, on the account I played a minor part in it. (Or it was cool even with me in it, not sure...)
EDIT: And how can I forget Loyal's animated comic. That's just awesome, man.

I don't have Flash. I must get more monies to afford all the nice computer things I need. 64 MB Video Card, Flash tools, maybe a Tablet... :(
Excellent comic, Phil. Kinda reminds me of what the Chatroom sometimes turns into. :p

All I gotta say is that it was worth the wait, Phil. You know a comic is funny when you can be explaining to your friend who everybody is and still both be laughing. I already told you this on AIM last night, but I know the general public is just dieing to know my opinion.
Also, nice work on the gif, Loyal. Using so many frames seems masochistic to me, but it was worth it.

Phil- I love you. Anyone who can include everything we've ever discussed on two different forums into one action-packed comic is my hero. Pirates, camwhore photos, churros, ninja... It's all there. The scary thing is that the entire comic makes perfect sense to me, even the part with Bunny Silly Kitty getting hijacked by Fenris. I'm online waaaaay too often. :D And you've just created the awesomest pick-up line ever.
Loyal- ZOMG!! That's fantastic! Their movements look very fluid and realistic. I am quite impressed.
RZ- YAAAAAAY MORE JAQ! It's a good thing, too: Poor Skyshot has been holding the Gandalf staff up for a looooooooooong time. :p Me likey! Make morez! Nowz!

Phil and Loyal - So much awesome! I'm green with envy (or possibly food poisoning). The time you guys must've put into these makes me feel bad for bitching about 4 hours on a JAQ... So yeah, very much impressed!

I find great irony in a comic based upon people having sprite updates to include outdated sprites which were replaced before the sprites in question.
Other than that, great job everybody.

Awesome work Loyal, you've earned my respect in super gif making. Just how do you compress your files? I must know this, it is intriguing(sp?).
As for you Phil, you've always impressed me with your work. You must make more comics, more I say!
(NOTE: I need someone to be my comic conduit for the next few days. Anyone up for it?)

RMB: Totally up to it. let me post your work. ((and claim it for my own! MWHAHAH!))
...like, no one heard that, right? that was in my head?
And Phil: That was an AMAZING comic. My mom thought I was messed in the head when I burst out laughing at my computer.
To everyone with a pirate comic: Ninja's are better. but those comics are still cool.
mauve
11-16-2005, 12:53 PM
We should definately have a pirate/ninja comic now. We pirate sprites must band together to stop Choco-nin and the ninja menace.
And for the record, I posted a pirate camwhore picture first, Mike posted a pirate spritesheet first, and we appear to be tied in who looks better in pirate garb. That depends on whether you go for the Jack Sparrow look or the Black Kat look.
Bailey
11-16-2005, 07:29 PM
I have both pirate garb and ninja garb.
can I be on both sides in the comic?
it could be one of those clarkkent-superman dealies where nobody figures it out despite how obvious it is!

Rick: Fear the dopplegangers. They have strength in numbers.Wait, what?
EDIT: Nevermind. I got it. It didn't come to me until a few hours later, as I was trying to sleep, but then I blame that on not having any sleep 30 hours beforehand.
Also, neat stuff Loyal. I think the shading looked pretty good. Better than my attempts; I never seem to get the placement correct.
EDIT EDIT: Also, awesome job, Newb! That looks like something out of Waking Life.

Bailey
11-17-2005, 01:31 PM
graphicsgale
I kept two windows open, one with a photo the other with this, and I kept switching back and forth.
I used the curve tool for most of that, but also the color replacer for the shading.
I kept the bits I had gotten to look right on one layer, and the stuff that was in progress on another so that if anything went wrong I could scrap the layer and not worry abou messing up what I liked.
once I had gotten all the lines down, I made a layer for each segment and filled in all the segments not adressed in that layer with this hideous lime green.
I then started using the color replacer and fill tools to get the shading done, and once a segment was finished I would clear the lime out from that layer and merge it with the other finished layers until I had what you see now.

Beautiful work, Loyal! What program did you use?I used GIMP, combining aspects of a number of tutorials, including but not limited to The GIMP's tutorial (http://the.sunnyspot.org/slm/tutorials/01.html) for the actual coloring (This version is better than the updated one in my opinion, as this tells you what layers go where in a more graphic manner), Exterminatus Now's tutorial (http://exterminatusnow.keenspace.com/colourtut.html) for Shading, and some fiddling around and experimenting on my own part for translating into terms I could better understand and stuff like that.
Next time, I shall start by implementing THIS tutorial (http://www.deviantart.com/view/23617739/) that Rick kindly linked me to some time ago and that I forgot all about until now. I shall use it to make my lineart cleaner. ^^
[EDIT]: Rick: Yay! My NinjaMeister sprites are used at last! ^_^ Yay! Plot exposition!

Rick: Aha! The plot thickens! Or at least gets partly revealed... Whatever your pick.
Also, the "within reason" line from my intro gets explained! I always thought that referred to Melfice's means of operation.
Do anything possible to get the job done, as long as it's within reason. Awesome that you were planning ahead so far.
AJ: Nice one! I liked it.
*Note to self: try meditation during exams. Addendum: Remember to plan Super NPF-Meet* away from any and all exam-periods for invited members.*

Speaking of MT, those two silhouetted figures fill me with a sense of curiosity. I can't for the life of me determine who they are. Well, the one on the right, anyways. The guy on the left is probably boring. And lame. Lame and boring. :D

AIM is free, silly people. Chatting, also free. The time it sucks away, you pay for in brain cells. AIM, yeah, but I thought that in order to download the official 8-bit chatroom you had to pay a one-time fee of $20? Also- Is AIM just for people who have AOL? (I'm so bad.) I'm thinking I might just get YIM or MSN IM eventually, if I ever lose my sense of laziness.
Phil- You have captured the essence of the HP horde perfectly. I LOVE IT!! XD And your drawings are so cuuuute!
Speaking of drawings, I finally got some of my line drawings scanned. But now that I see them on the screen, I realize that they're horrible and now I'm embarrased to show them. :shifty: Maybe someday I'll get the courage.

Rick needs to keep up with the funnies he makes and not waste time of silly drawings of forumites. It takes me 2 hours from start to finish to do one of these. JAQ takes up to 6. And when I do a comic, I have to work from start to finish non-stop. So these are much easier. JAQ shall return next week.
In the meantime, I'm loving all this art going up lately. It's a trend that should continue. Mauve, I don't know why you were embarrassed to post those -- they look great! I love the shiney one, in particular.

I was thinking. There may be a future episode of the Fortuna Saga where we may need a crowd of people or some dead bodies or a conga-line or something else (I don't know where the plot is going so it is impossible for me to spoil it). I was thinking, instead of using my sprites from my vast number of sprite sheets, wouldn't it be nice if I could throw in a few NPFer sprites? I'm making no guarantees, but I'll see what I can do for anyone interested as long as their sprite 1) Mimics the FF6 style 2) Is not a recolor of a FF6 character and 3) <subject to change without reason>.
Anyone interested should PM me.

Hey guys, while I'm on the boat heading back to San Diego I've decided to do a small little adventure. Tentitvly titled "Attack of the Banned" it'll be more of an action strip rather then humorious. Basic plot goes like so:
Deep in the bowels of the forums, is a prison for those who can't follow the rules. They are the unwanted. The troublemakers. The Banned. One day, they become orgnized and escape their prison, intent on taking over the NP forums and making it their own, and for getting revenge on those who
Banned them.
It'll be up to a group of deturmaned forumites to prevent them from taking them over, and to send them back where they belong.
And yes, there will be a couple of Shiney-blasting-the-hell-out-of-the-Banned scenes. Just because I think he'd enjoy doing that.
If anyone wants to join up, PM or E-mail me. And if you could include your weapon of choise in the spritesheets, that'd be useful.

(For example, I don't think I've done more than one or two pieces of art this year that weren't related to NPF.)
It's snowing here too!

They're okay, Entity... But from what I see, they have nothing to do with NPF members. That thread is for posting comics about other NPF members... And stuff. Feel free to plug your comic over here, (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=10) though.

It's snowing here too! Pssh. It never snows over in my bizarre little corner of the galaxy. Rain and coldness from November to May. It gets boring, but at least you don't have to shovel it out of the driveway every morning. :D
Mammoth- Whoops! I don't have your new spritesheet on my laptop yet. Thanks for pointing that out!
Raiden- I got your drawing started today. The rough sketch is pretty much done, but I'm still having problems getting the face right. Soon, my electrically-charged friend. Very soon it shall be complete.
Hopefully. Maybe. I think.

And Mauve, I loved the expressions on SK and BMG!'s faces. So approprate.
And just a reminder to those who wish to join in my little adventure, please provide spritesheets in you PMs, just because I'm a lazy bitch who doesn't feel like searching for them.
And in this, of course I'm going to include our favorite Banned egomanic, Otaku-Son. What to use as a sprite for him, that I don't know. Any suggestions?
Loyal
12-06-2005, 07:40 AM
Well, Patrat displayed him as a Silver Ranger, (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=333352&postcount=779) which might work if someone would make a complete sprite sheet of it (I would if I weren't already busy making a crapload of sprites for the comic series I announced, and writing more of its script; I want to have at least 20 episodes pre-written when I start it).

Entity, "member comic thread" means "comics featuring members or their online personae," not "comics made by members." Don't worry, it's a frequent mistake (though pretty clearly stated in the first post if I recall correctly).
And since when does Imageshack display this "click here if this image is porn" thing?
I'm gonna make my own free image hosting service where every site will have a porn site link that reads "click here if this image isn't porn."

This is due to two reasons:
1: The first time I tried drawing the other forumites, they didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped. The second time, they sucked. On the third, my drawings were more akin to children's scribbles on MS Paint. This lasted until the 56'th try, upon which I gave up. I guess I need some art lessons...

Feh! I made it in the wee hours of the night and midmorning, while me an cheshire destroyed brain cells chatting. i can't include everything!
Besides, it was all from my point of view anyway.
And yes, I do see the world as a poorly made comic.

So, that makes two pictures featuring Cheshire Thief. You still have a way to go before you catch up to Mauve, CT. Darn right! Even though he's older, has more posts, plays guitar better, and has cuter ears than me (curse your spotted kitty ears! Curse them!), he still can't match me in Phil Comic Awesomeness. So take that, loser!! Ha! *sticks out tongue at CT*
And Phil? I am now disturbed beyond reasoning. You WILL pay for my counseling sessions.
IHMN- Pure beauty. The pure simplicity, the stark contrast between figure and ground... It leads the eye to that which is most important in the piece. It says, "This is CheshireThief, plain and simple. No frills." This is CT as he exists without the masks of excessive detail. It is, in fact, a representation of the subject's bare soul; perhaps a CheshireThief so deep that shadows and dimension can no longer exist within him. Any questions on how I BSed my way through Art History class?
Mammoth- Hey, that's a good way to memorize lines! And it looks great!
RickZarber- Oh, thanks a lot. Now that song's stuck in MY head. :gonk:

AB: Glad to see you're still with us. So when's that volleyball tourney happening?
Let's see. It all depends on if I can stay off my ass and work on it. First and foremost, there's sprites to edit. I got CelesJessa, Cat, and BMG to edit into bikini mode at the very least. I heard Flarecobra done some for herself but she never gave them to me. While I'm working on those, I'll finally get a list going of all the people who're going along.
Well, at least I got a general idea and a program my friend swears works like Photoshop which I'll dig into.
For the volleyball lineup, there's me, CelesJessa, Cat, Flarecobra, BMG, and a special character who won't be mentioned at this time because it'd be much more hilarious when used at a more opportune time. I think I also got Arlia Janet, and I haven't asked Sillykitty or Mauve Mage. QueenQeeko said no and I wouldn't dare ask Rairai. So, ultimately, I at least have six players currently.
The quest is pretty much set up. All I have to do is set stages, put players on them, and try my hardest to be funny, which I think I can manage through the series. I'll edit my signature tomorrow to include preparation status. There won't be much of a script as a lot of my material creeps up right on the spot.

Also, Mr. JoyKill, while your sprites do need some cleaning up and refinement, as suggested, I believe there is a section in Arts and Crafts where you might find some excellent suggestions on how to put together a sprite comic in Paint/Paint Shop Pro/Photoshop. And if there isn't, don't hesitate to politely ask a fellow forum member through PM for advice. Certainly I don't see why they would have a problem answering any questions you might have on the subject.
Also, while we do insist that there is a proper place for everything on NPF, we do not want to deter you from creating comics, or artwork, poetry or prose. Ultimately, we encourage creativity here, and you will soon learn where everything goes.

It's okay, Thadius. I'm honestly suprised that the newer folk know anything ABOUT Finding Meister or its preceding Hijacked Comics. I don't mind that you use my story or my sprites, but if you decide to do another series based on someone else's storyline, it might be a good idea to ask the person first. Not everyone on this forum is as kind and loving and goodnatured and modest and gentle as me. <3 And did I mention how modest I am? Modesty is my middle name!

RickZarber: Please don't tell me they're going to hit on Mauve. That would be disastrous. Disastrous, yes. But for whom? :p Although I really don't get the inside joke/reference in Rick's, because technically they're ALL inside jokes/references. Not entirely true. The last one was a refernce to 8-Bit Theater (ie, Enter the White Mage) both in title, and in the fact that they meet outside a magic shop. I had hoped it wouldn't be such an obtuse reference, but ah well. As for inside jokes, while that was true of the first two JAQ comics, everything afterwards has been my own story. References are aplenty though; the only differences is that they are almost all exclusively movie references. 'Cause my noggin's full of 'em.
Thadius: Well, if Mauve's okay with it, I'm okay with it! Just having sprites shows marked improvement over the first one. The only thing that bugs me is the misspelling of "Meister", epsecially since you get it right just a few frames beforehand. Remember, with german "ie" or "ei", it's whichever letter is second that's pronounced as the long vowel!
Fenris: I'm loving the shadow effects. Can't wait to see more!
MrJoykill: I can hardly read that. I'd say next time either try to make it a little more legible or type in the dialogue. Oh, they should be able to survive, as long as they don't try dropping a bridge on my house like Loyal2NES.
Historians have an awesome job.
I'm honestly suprised that the newer folk know anything ABOUT Finding Meister or its preceding Hijacked Comics.
I don't know if I can speak for the rest of the NPF noobs or not on this, but the later comics don't make sense, as one doesn't know who the characters are. That makes one want to start from the beginning to try to learn who the everyone is. The next 10 hours of your life are spent reading funny jokes, which turn into inside jokes and reading Shiney's Edit that comments go in the discussion thread.
To put it bluntly, I would believe most new members of the NPF would read the archives, and would therefore have a more clear memory of the old inside jokes. Therefore, the urge to continue such an awesome series (such as Finding Meister) would burn in them. And as you can see, the series seems to be experiencing a rebirth.

I'm glad people like me reviving the finding Miester series...
Though right now it's more like the kidnap the NPForumites series...
But hey, I can't kidnap everyone.
...
But I will try.

Thadius: Nice that someone's continuing Finding Meister.
I disagree there. Finding Meister should be continued, but by Mauve. I know she gave her consent, but so far, from what I can tell, none of the original charm that Mauve's series had is in this continuation. A "Kidnap Everybody" comic just seems kinda dull and repetitive. At least there weren't typos in this one...
I'm going to wait until he makes more comics before I make a final judgement on whether or not I think this is a good or bad thing.
