Give me time, I'm new to spriting after all. Heck, it's enough hassel trying to make the dang paint program work with me. When I manage to master the program, not the other way around, along with the art of spriting...
THEN I'll work in actual humor. Right about now is the pre-humor stuff.
Everybody had to start somewhere, right?

I disagree there. Finding Meister should be continued, but by Mauve.
I said there was a rebirth. That can be described many different ways... need the nerdiest metaphor possible...

So, in effect, as opposed to being Full-Lifed (tm), the Finding Meister series has been Lifed (tm). As such, it will need need a Full-Cure (tm) to be back to full strength.

...Unless if we're playing FF8 (tm), then the series had been Full-Lifed (tm) and we need to beat it within an inch of it's life to bring it back to full strength, and possibly death.

So, Thadius, what game are we playing?

Loyal, I didn't get that treatment.* Am I not a member of the NPF?

*Mauve Mage did attack me...

All these recent comics remind me of how much I was a jackassed, know-nothing, impulsive idiot I was in ways I don't wanna get into.

But seriously, you guys really do a nice job. Not just with the comics, but for putting up with my behavior back in 2005.

Me? I'm gonna lay off the comics for now. Not just because I've ran out of ideas or I need a breather, but because I had to relinquish the scanner and I hate having to make sprite comics (because we all know sprite comics have to be pixel perfect or else they suck).

He himself was going to blast Thadius to hell, but got 'shoved' away by the sheer force of Mauve's spell (When you're airborne, it doesn't take much to send you flying... further) before he could let loose.

A ninja, Rick? Why who could that possibly be?

Really, though, I'm glad you're updating again, and the speed of which you are doing so makes me doubly glad. So doubly glad, in fact, that one might say that I am double-glad, or gladglad, or a gladabout, or something.
Might I also add that "We'll need a pirate" needs to be said more often?

We'll need a ninja.

But... as far as I know, we only have one ninja. And that's Meister. But he's one of the... bad guys/good guys/people we beat up regardless of alignment?

I'm confused...

Otherwise, I have to agree, "We'll need a ninja." is totally awesome to say. And again you deliver, Rick. Nice job.

EDIT: D'oh... totally forgot about him... Stupid fowl on my part.

But seriously, you guys really do a nice job. Not just with the comics, but for putting up with my behavior back in 2005. What are you talking about, GC? I liked your comics! I liked searching for the invisi-text in the backgrounds. That was a nice touch.

RickZarber-- Yeeehehehehee! I am enjoying this immensely! And "We need a ninja" has joined Mauve's List of Best Random Sayings Evah. It will become a permanent part of my vocabulary, along with "Thanks to Captain Capitalism."

Loyal-- Well done! Thaddius has now recieved a hearty NPF slaughtering-- I mean Welcome! You have just entered an elite society, Thad. Not many survive such a joyous... welcome. I have no idea how I managed to escape such a fate when I first joined, what with my MAUVE MAGE'S COMIC OF AWESOMENESS!! and the RPGeeks series. The fates must have smiled upon me. Either that, or you've all been planning some horrible attack for the past year and are waiting for the opportune moment to strike...

I loved "9999999?!?" That was just too perfect for words. I will use that spell now, somewhere. A comic maybe? (Oooh, Valentine's Day is coming up! THAT should be fun!) Or maybe an RP? Ah well; it WILL be used again. Because it rocked on a variety of levels.

And I love how evil and uber-powerful I come off as here on the Comic Thread. Most of my reputation as being highly explosive comes from things I didn't even write. Truly, my power has spread and intensified. Soon the world will bow to my cute and mauve-tinted might.

And you know, this sounds pretty stupid, but I'm actually really touched about how highly you guys speak of Finding Meister. I really am.

Fenris: That is some crazy shadowing there. That musta taken forever. Also: the "I'm in a comic" glee never diminishes! There's something special about seeing someone put you in a comic. A feeling of excitement, wondering what will happen to you next; a feeling of kinship, that people care enough to write a story about you... and that's not nearly all. It's difficult to describe beyond that.

Thought-provoking... isn't it?

Cause I could go for that spot, if there was enough money to steal- I mean, if I got a fair cut in the pay.

And credit for my sword sprites which I will be using goes to MT, the god of spritage.

How to make shadows:

Take the image, 'black' it all out, Skew it, and paste it on as a 70-80% opacity layer?

<_<

Well, it does work. Or should...

Yeah, pretty much. It's better to duplicate that layer and apply a guassian blur to both. The lower one should be bigger than the top top one (5 pixels and 3 pixels for example). The same is true for the opacity (20% and 15% for example). If you do it this way, the shadow doesn't look so jagged. Clicky. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/Fortunasaga/valens1.jpg)

Actually, I do mine in a different, but similar manner.

I take the sprite, post it on a new image with a transparent background, and skew it then. If I have to, I then do a vertical perspective shift to make it more horizontal (see the shadows on the sidewalk). Then, I reduce the bit depth of that image to two (Black and White). I fill in the holes, and copy this image and paste it on the panel. I then use the eraser tool, and remove the black shadow. I then merge all layers (using the eraser tool on a selection makes a new layer). Using the darken tool, I then darken the background I have now selected until it looks good.

I shall defend my shadowing secrets to the grave!

Raise from the grave!Rave to the Grave! Err, I mean... yeah, make more comics RMB.

Thadius: I don't think you need try to mimic Mauve's style. Make this your own thing. I found those last two far funnier, cause it was obvious they were your own style of humor. Stick with that, and develop it.

And I should probably say now that I can't take any more requests to be added to JAQ. I'm only 2/5 through the story, but I can't keep adding characters or it will just be ridiculous. I have a complete story-arc planned out all the way to the end and the closer I get, the less wiggle room I have with the story. So yeah, besides those I've already promised a part to, it's probably gonna be cameos only from here on out.

Well-hell-hell. This is getting somewhere. You do nice work, Loyal and Rick. And I like where Thadius is headed.

Maybe I will join in the fun some time. My duality (or was it triality? I can't remember) might play a part in the story... after all, my first real start was invading Mauve's storyline.

But first I need to make a new spritesheet... damn. You know how I am when I don't have a pencil and a scanner.

Nice one Loyal. Though I have to say, that last panel looks... dirty. O.oIt's nothing dirty. See, in FE8 (AKA The Sacred Stones), Thieves, Rogues, and Assassins were unaffected by the trap tiles that would hurt you if you ended your turn on 'em. In fact, the trap was disabled altogether when they stopped on top of them. That's pretty much what I did here, 'cept with a poke instead of trodding on her. Though I knew some folks would think of it as dirty... :p

And about the "DOCTORS, NO! I DON'T WANNA GET CUT UP!" rant: You knew about my surgery? Have I really ranted about it that much here? Or was that just your average "Mauve is freaking out" line? The latter. Now that I think about it, you DID mention some lung surgery in that New Years Resolutions comic, but I didn't see it elsewhere nor was I thinking of it when I wrote that part. I was just thinking that you'd pick up the context as "Oh god, Loyal's going to do surgery on me to get the trap out!! I'm gonna die!!"

But don't worry, you won't die. I just needed people, and yours was one to pop out at me...mainly because you had a weapon. And I hadn't seen you in comics lately.
So besides that, is it okay to continue to use you?

And CT-- That was an eloquent and moving song. It captures the essence of emotion and reveals the artist's true soul. And it is now stuck in my frigging head, dammit!!

Man, I gotta get back into the comic-ing scene. I've been inspiration-less for far too long. One could say that the muses have abandoned me. You know what? I think the ancient Greeks and Romans needed a male muse. I mean, they're all women. What about us girl artists, huh? We need a sexy dude muse! Come on, ancient Rome, just one! Work with me here!

Anyway, I think I may retire Finding Meister, seeing as my plot line went along with current forum events that were only current about four months ago. That, and the fact that I haven't made a new episode since early September. But never fear, for I have plans. New plans. Evil, mauve-tinted plans. For comickery. And genius. Or something.

I've got two hand-drawn comics coming along, one of which should be up soon. I just have to scan it and do a little editing. The second comic is still being drawn. (Raiden will hate me for that; the second comic was one I promised him TWO MONTHS AGO.) Then I'm considering starting up a new sprite comic series. I've already got some jokes lined up; I just need to get the plot set out.

Mauve, there is a sexy dude muse, but he doesn't inspire people so much as he pokes them until they make something.

Rick: I love getting references like that.Yeah. I was looking through my archive and I found that putting in pop-culture references has become an unstoppable compulsion for me. Half the comic is now based around it. And then I found the following quote from a guy who was reviewing a Kevin Smith DVD. Never before have I seen a quote that so aptly describes me:
"I realized why I try so hard to be hip and clever: I am a product of the Kevin Smith/Quentin Tarantino generation. A generation of twenty-somethings that rely on other people’s work to filter into their own. A generation of people that laden others with pop culture references that seemingly make sense to no one but the speaker/writer. People are abound in a haze of confusion when I speak, and I have had my fair amount of detractors that say I write like I speak."
Phil: Heehee. Cute...

CT: I'm not sure this one beats out the "Pixie is the sexies" song as your best (and "mostly likely to get stuck in the head") but it's full of Bardish awesomeness.

Garud: Nice first comic! My only advice would be to make it a tad less wide; it's always a pain for people to have to scroll left and right.

Patrat: A nice return to comicing! DB and Newb's antics rocked. Also: yay, I'm in a comic! (It just never gets old!) Looking forward to the rest!

Phil (again!): Awesome. I'm so showing that one to my BM-obsessed friend.

EDIT: More! Today is a comicy-goodness day.

ZJ: Sexy.

Thadius: I'm sorry to say I'm completely lost. The comic before this I had a hard time telling who was saying what, and I have absolutely no idea what's happening in this one...

Yeah, I can't enlarge the comic. Which means I can't read it. Care to link to the big comic?

GARUD
01-27-2006, 10:06 AM
Yeah, that's a problem I have been trying to fix for hours. Nothings working. To View it, you will probably have to cut and paste it into paint or word and enlarge it there. It's fine on the file itself, but when it goes through photobucket... something happens. And you saw, my first comic was the right size that I had made it. I knowsomething is going wrong but I can't tell what.

Edit: Fixed it, and figure out why it was smaller. The file was too big, so it was automatically resized. All I had to do was change the format, so it took up less space and it worked! Sorry bout the trouble Melfice.

Oh, and one more thing... *STAB*

Adghar

Mauve Mage: :( I'm going to miss Finding Meister.

Thadius: Could you possibly remove the unsightly square around ApathyMan with the paint bucket or magic wand/delete?

GARUD: If you have Photoshop, I believe you can use a non-anti-aliased magic wand to get rid of the outline, adjusting tolerance as needed. MS Paint has the paint bucket, but that's effectively a tolerance 0 auto-delete non-anti-aliased contigious magic wand.

RZ: A gatekeeper uses a popular internet reference as a password to the forbidden zone? Seems a little unlikely to me. I guess maybe the secrecy of the forbidden zone is its main defence.

I have not much else to say. I'm made of negative comments.

Adghar:
I belive that was the punch line of the comic...

Adghar

Of course it's the punchline. It just weakens the credibility of the plotline used in the current situation if I think too hard about it. I'm crazy that way.

Well, you have to imagine that the password was set by the Mods. And it doesn't get you past the firewall or anything. So it's not really that big a deal. It's not like they can just walk past him and get the sword, as you'll soon find out. (Foreshadowing!)

Garud: Hehe, bible joke.

Mauve: I've been drawn. By someone else. That makes a first, and thus you just made my day. Add that to the fact it's a damn fine comic, (and I'm envious of your style, especially regarding the faces) and I give you much applause. And the picture quality looks good as far as I can see.

SithDarth: I love the line "Oh great, I've killed again." Very nice. Also reminds me that I miss SAAM. Osterbomb... *head shake* More soon, yes?

I, uh, was going to have the next JAQ up yesterday (and work on that other related project), but I kinda got sidetracked. An old buddy from high school was in town and we spent the day catching up, and then the entire night watching anime. O.o But assuming I don't crash, I'll try to do those things today.

Sithdarth
01-29-2006, 11:42 AM
Funny thing about that line; it was rewritten about 4 times because I wanted to keep it to one carrage return and yet fit it in the space I had left. I could only figure out one way to do that.

Also note the new Avatar. I just got some nice shiney new kickass photo programs and in addition to speeding up comic creation a lot I can now make animated gifs quickly. Expect more coming soon.

Also, just because Rick asked, as if you believe that, there be a new comic. Phil's comment, however, got me off my arse and to find a nifty new background/teach myself text boxes.

SithDarth: I love the "I've killed again!" line!

Mauve: I've been drawn. By someone else. I've been avatar'ed! By someone else! :D That's awesome!

And the picture quality looks good as far as I can see. Well, the pencil shading on everyone's clothes and hair looks much nicer in the original. I guess I didn't make it dark enough for the scanner to pick up.

You know, I think anyone would've done what you've done in that situation Mauve. I mean, all those people pestering you.... Hey, I'm having enough trouble with making the character sprites like the background. I'm taking it one step at a time. If you'd like, you can take a trip back in time and see my first comic and agree that I've come VERY far since then.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Are you insinuating that I shouldn't use sprites from other games? I know where the dragon came from too; it's called Mr Google Search. And let me tell you, my choices for "dragon sprite" (with a prerequisite of more than one pose) were pretty limited.

Thadius
02-03-2006, 12:24 PM
Bah. Heros of might and magic 3. Fantasy game, puts you in control of a kingdom. The Black Dragon was one of the troops you could recruit. And mind, that dragon was invunerable to all magic. Was also not bad on health either. So you've presented the party of adventurers with quite a challenge here.

Dragonsbane
02-06-2006, 04:11 PM
Calm yourself, Thadius. Just because it looks identical to the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 game's Black Dragon does not mean it is said creature. Furthermore, those dragons are not immune to lasers. I may not have read carefully enough, but I trust you two (Rick, Thadius) are not seriously bickering, as that would upset me greatly, and cause me to do something regrettable like...say...turning your family into ravenous, flesh-eating undead monstrosities.

That unpleasantness aside, Rick, I greatly applaud the progress of your comic, and absolutely love the scrying-spell effect you used in the most recent one. Keep it up.

Thunder Dragoon, my old friend...although yourself and Flarecobra are both powerful and capable Dragoons, she has something you do not. Being a female warrior, she gains a bonus to her Badass stat, which gives her a clear lead as the choice for the group. Besides, she slew Tentacle Oster, and she has red hair.

Darth: Whenever I see myself in a comic, I am inevitably compelled to comment with either "Keep up the good work!" or "That's not who I am! You're misportraying me!" In this case, it is the former.

Thadius: You could utilize the circle tool for speech bubbles. You may have to use paint can to change the inner fill of the circle to complement the actual speech, but the circle tool would help. Or maybe it's called the ellipse tool; I'm not sure as M$ is messed up. And it's probably copyright, not copywrite. I wouldn't want to see copywriting on any sprites. That would just be weird.

And Thad, like it's said before, just because it looks like something, doesn't mean that it's what it is. Haven't you ever heard of image re-use? It's just like when Brian uses sprites from FF1. Yes, they're used in a public medium, but he's not making any profit or using them to hurt Square's name. It's called The Fair Use clause.

I couldn't fit you in until Act III, (as I had all of Act II plotted out before you asked) so it's gonna be a while yet. Hang in there. Believe me, you'll know when your part is coming! You have GOT to tell me what you do to get those backgrounds, as the obvious words planted into Google never give me anything usefulWell, you'll not want to hear this, but all my backgrounds come from Google searches. Sometimes it takes me a long time to get just one frame I can use, other times I'll find a picture that brings forth a multitude of goodies. (For example, searching "aerial forest" got me a lot of crap and only one or two good photos, but "aerial volcano" let me find a good one of Mt Capulin, and then searching "capulin" and "capulin aerial" got me all the pictures I'll need for that location)

Three things to note:

1) I'll be fairly inactive on the forum front until further notice. Mum's banned me from the computer for the usual report card*. No comics, AIM chatroom, etc. etc., for awhile...

2) Rick, I have them recorded, finally, but you HAVE to be on the computer BEFORE 4:30 PM EST if I am to send it to you (Or, failing that, find me a reliable place to host it for later).

3) With my lack of computer time, I now have much more time to draw... Expect a number of comics from that long-ago-and-much-put-off storyline drawn up and ready to be scanned/CG'd by the time I'm back on**. :D

* She refuses to accept that, no matter how many times it has been proven, doing so is now a completely inneffectual punishment. I have so many other ways to amuse myself, and have more access points to a computer... Like right now in school.

...Yeah, it's really no big deal, folks.

The only thing I'm starting to worry about is over-hype. So just for the record: nothing momentous is going to actually happen in comic 50. Just a lot of character moments and some intense foreshadowing... But it's still gonna be pretty cool, I think.

EDIT EDIT: Back home again. Comic work will recommence. Depending on fast I get those files and how long it takes me to finish the comic proper, it could be up as early as sometime Tuesday. Though, it took me three hours just to do the sprites for this one (it's long... very long) so who knows.

Yeah, It's the Ilumina sword from FF6 I think, (I always chose the Esper Ragnarok so I don't know what Ilumina really looks like), anyway the sword looked cool, I orignally used the Sword Leo uses in his shock attack, but decided to switch it.., I could have gone with the Atma Weapon: (Sword) but that would be too much of a Star Wars Ripoff.

What brought this on? I honestly can't remember. I thought of it sometime last weekend, and only got around to finishing it today. I think I was trying to figure out a way of getting more mileage out of the practice I got of drawing Mauve in the last comic, and it spiraled out of control.

I can tell you that everyone's character was based on costume, not on personality (mostly because, having never played DQ8, I don't really know the characters). Krylo... he's only Jessica because he's easy to draw and I needed someone to fill that spot. Also, floating skulls don't have chests.

Yes, excellent Phork, Will... err... Excellent work, Phil.

And I don't know about the rest of you, but when I played Dragon Quest 8, the hero had WAY more lines than everyone else! I just filled them all in myself! So if you had been playing the game the way I was, it makes PERFECT sense for CT to be the hero!
Even though he wants to marry a horse.
And Raiden has been my sidekick for some time now. I saved him from falling off that bridge that time, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Also, nice work Sith.

And if CT's girl was about to get married and he had to get in, I'd be MORE than willing to punch out a guy with a sword to get him through.

I don't drink. I don't gamble. I don't hand out jewelry to random hot guys. Men don't swoon as I walk by. Aside from the fact that I'm blonde, I'd say Angelo and I have nothing in common.

Well, Phil's drawing gave me such a chuckle that I started a comic on it. (Sorry. I couldn't help myself.) It might end up here if I ever ink it and scan it; right now it's scribbled on the back of my math notes in my notebook. In other news, skulls (especially skulls in pigtails) are difficult to draw. LET IT BE KNOWN that henceforth and until otherwise stated by my person that I am starting a brand-new series. Said series may involve multiple if not all personas and sprites I can get my hands on. Fairly warned ye be, so persue no lawsuits against me.
Also, let it be known that this series involves a theme that is becoming all too common nowadays, namely, the end of all things. Armageddon. The final cashing in of our chips. The great re-roll of God. So on and so forth. So it's going to be as flipping cool as I can make it.
It's also going to take a while, but since I discovered the other day a shortcut to bubbling text, it won't take half as long as you think it was. Nayh.
Sit back, relax, and ENJOY THE CARNAGE! The first comic will be out shortly.

Cool. I'm looking forward to it. But make no mistake, if you refrain from using my sprite i will give "armageddon" a whole new meaning.

Wait, my sprite's going to be used? I'm totally and completely cool with that.

Rick: Nice. Can't really say much else... Except get back to work on the your actual comic series!

Come on DB, you've got the Main Villan role in Rick's comic.

And just a quickie poll, who do you think is the mole in Rick's comic?

It's obviously that sex-ay bastard Demon with a Glass Hand. He's too sex-ay not to be. Also, he's a ninja, nature's mole.

Plus, he had to tinkle. No one in comics has to tinkle. Suspicious!

Got enough mages Thad?

Mages are nice and all, but if something breaks they can't fix it so it works. You need somebody awesome. Somebody who keeps a roll of duct tape on his belt and a multitool in his pocket. You need the Richard Dean Anderson of forumites, and frankly I don't see him on the mission.

Nyah.
I'll try and fix a few of those things later.
And we'll need the mages, cause the plan, of course, is to blow it up!
And actually, Fenris, I am sorry to say that you are not the comet. I just chose a random name and tacked it on there.
But you can pretend if you like.

Newb, are you talking about me? *Does carry around a multitool, and usually has duct tape somewhere accessable. Seriously.*

And about my comic that I was working on, well.......I'm afraid that there's a snag in the plans. I'll let the picture explain it all.

As you can see, I can't work on them with a screen like that, and I have no real way of transferring the comics from one comp to another (Yet)

Actually, I had no idea that you did.

But know that I know, I plan to make a comic in which you save the day using a drinking straw, seran wrap, a spoon, and a pingpong ball.
