I believe I've finally come out of my year-long spriter's block. I spent most of last night (till 3 am!) working on some MS Paint backgrounds for a new comic series that might actually get off the ground. I'm about three quarters done with the first episode. It's not Finding Meister, but hopefully it'll amuse some of you.

EXPECT THE FIRST WHEN THE BELL TOLLS ONE!!!! Well, not really. But that sounded pretty dramatic. Episode One coming soon, at any rate.

*snicker* Just beautiful. You got shanked, Raiden.

On a sidenote, well done, Mauve.

Due to that stellar comic by Mauve, I say we petition a mod to change Raiden's name to "...jerk". That line is priceless.

RZ: Yay, JAQ returns! Love it!

DC: Yay, I'm in a comic (somebody elses comic :P). You are getting really good at this comic thing and the punchlines are very original.

I've got exams coming up this Mon-Fri and I have to put the comic and game on hold until the Fri afternoon. It's halfway complete too, but yeah... stupid school.

I'm glad people liked it! I guess that means it's okay to make it a series, huh?

And is that Dave on the missing person's sign? Yep. Originally it was Meister, but then I added the panel with Meister's "disappearance" file and decided that I liked that better.

And that was my milk money, Mauve! Now I'll have to go without milk for the week! Get over it, you big not-dead baby.

Mauve: "I'll just call it Raiden." XD Perfect. Also, Raiden is apparently the Wolverine of NPF. Also, I'm curious as to what's written on that page with RM. Also, why is the comic numbered one more than the actual episode? Also, should I stop saying also?

AJ: Your sprite looks good with red hair. But now the lines have been blurred! Where does Arlia end and Jessica begin?! My brain would be spinning if not for the fact that I'm obviously smart as defined by your comic only now I have confused myself through a run-on sentence.

DarkCorn: "NOFFKALS?" That sounds like Russian. For "sound of coughing".

Why is the comic labeled one more than it actually is?
It's numbered 4 instead of 3 because on my comic makin' laptop, the file "detective.png" is a collection of all the backgrounds I've made for the series thusfar. The first detetctive comic is labeled "detective 2.png" and so on and so forth because I felt too lazy to come up with another title and too stupid to just call the first one "detective 1."

Dark CORN: "NOFFKALS?" I agree with RZ! XD

So **ahem** by your logic i can be mad at you for creating sprites of me without asking in the first place. Is that right?

Seriously, you're taking this thing just a bit too far. I realize you may not have started this whole thing, but you are the one who is at fault. If you post your comics here where everyone can see them, you are basically making yourself open to critisism. If you don't want to be critisized, don't post your comics. Now, i will apologize on behalf of everyone about the whole petition thing(and no, i didn't start it and i won't reveal who did) but you need to learn that if you want people to like your comics, then you can't ignore the advice people are giving you and STILL expect people to praise your comic.

Well, here we go again...

DarkCORN, just... y'know, stop this hate. And that goes with everybody else too. AJ was right. (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=395218&postcount=4206) The more we bicker about it, the worse the situation becomes. I thought that by giving DC a not-so-negative opinion about his comic DC would be happy and that would be the end of it. But now I think that maybe it would be best altogether if we didn't talk to him.

Then again, if we ignore him, he'll probably hate us for not giving him praise for his comics anyway. So this is turning into a lose-lose situation here.
And I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore. I think I'm losing it...
Just my thoughts.

Hatake Kakashi

Shut the comic thread down? That would so blow, Meister. No offense. The comic thread's been a wonderful outlet for people to showcase their creative talents since its conception. I've gotten many a smile, a laugh, and release of stress from watching the various ideas of people whose grasp of comedy, theater, and prose sometimes even rivals that of a certain webcomic master whose art is primarily responsible for the existence of this place. To squelch such grand creativity over something that seems rather minor and consists of a relatively low amount of our populace seems to be a bit of a waste. You have some genius in the thread yourself... and among the other artists who post within it, it would be a grave injustice to all to discontinue such merriment when a much cleaner, more humane cure is available.

Just waste the drama instead.. that'd be a bit less drastic.

06-05-2006, 12:56 PM
I second what Meister said. There's constructive criticism and there's blasting someone. He took it too far, others took it too far. So much childishness, wrapped in something of a cloak of intellectualism...big words and articulated sentences don't mean as much as the force behind them.

This outlet can continue to be a great outlet without having to resort to that kind of situation. This forum has an ignore feature, so too does your mind. One can simply not reply, and if the instigator then takes this lack of response and makes an ass of himself, it lies on his head. When it is a cluster-fuck of this proportion...

And for god's sake, an online petition??? As if that itself isn't enough of a reason? I don't have the specifics but I would personally like to know who thought up that little gem, to find out if they were trying to help or just thought it would be funny and cool to hurt someone's feelings that way? That's the part that really disgusts me.

Silly Kitty
06-05-2006, 01:30 PM
The original reason was to help but some people took it a little too far. I tried to make it into a joke and you can tell by some of the posts in there by the President. Actually, DarkCORN! was never suppose to see it. I don't know who gave it to him but it wasn't very nice and I feel bad for signing it now.

Edit: Wasn't my idea, for the record.

Great Cartoonist
06-05-2006, 02:54 PM
I was not aware of the existence of the petition, nor do I know what the purpose of it was and who started it. I guess I'm glad I wasn't a part of it... I hope that this nightmare has come to an end and that it won't happen again. This forum has been too good to me -- I truly wish that it will stay that way for everyone who uses it.
I don't want to be the enemy here, but I don't think DarkCORN was entirely at fault. In some sense, all the people who were involved in this whole issue -- we're probably at fault. I don't really know how to say this, but... there's a bit of a jerk in every one of us. All it needs is an opportunity for it to come out, and once it's out it's hard to keep it down again.
I don't know. My brain is hurting as I am typing this, and it's not from the lack of sleep I'm having lately.

Oh, and AJ, if I told you I was giving the thumbs up at the computer screen when I was looking at your comic, would you believe it?
My sprites can't compare with that... I need to get a new spritesheet.

Hatake Kakashi
06-05-2006, 03:11 PM
I wasn't aware of this petition either, whatever it was. In any case, there are still more constructive ways to approach this than to tear down a perfectly good thread.

Granted, you are correct in saying there are such things as ignore features. And constructive criticism. And being a dick. Apparently, in this whole fiasco, someone had taken the third option a bit too far. That part, I haven't seen. Still, there are many good things about that thread... and to kill it off because someone started something that they apparently do not have the balls to come forward about it seems a bit like euthanizing a human being because they have a cold. Curing overreaction with overreaction doesn't really benefit anyone.

shiney
06-05-2006, 05:10 PM
For the people who signed the petition but were too chickenshit to put their own names on it, there is a very good chance that through your corwardice, you will have had every single person involved in this fiasco temporarily banned. We are still deciding on it. Reason being, there were signatures on the petition that were actually not too mean. However the no-name ones were just dripping of immaturity and flamebait...so we can't just ban the petition people. We'll have to go through this thread and ban everyone, if that is the path we choose.

All the more I look at this I am reminded of the troubles we have had in the past with cliques here. The cool crowd ganging up on the loner, shunning the others because they don't meet a perceived quota, an invisible line that they are "just under" and therefore on the outs with the "in crowd". We know there is an in crowd, even if it isn't called such there is a definite us vs them mentality in several people.

This is yet another example of it, considering that one person, three maximum would have been sufficient. 17 on a petition? More in the forum? Pitiful, really. I actually hope you (everybody) feel embarassed reading this because what happened was fucked up. I am by no means supporting what DarkCORN! did as his own reaction was chlidish but he was alone for the most part.

So. If you are unable to login and post sometime in the near future it is because the mods have banned everyone involved. The alternative is for those pansies who didn't sign their little screen names on the petition to own up and apologise, publicly, which will be posted on the front page of Nuklearpower if Brian deems it to be so.

This thread is closed until we have decided. It could be tonight, tomorrow, a week from now...whenever we feel. No, it is not deleted because we don't want to go that far yet.

I bet you can tell I'm damn annoyed because I have posted yet another rambling "you screwed up bad" post. Well. I've made a comic about it. I hope you enjoy.

Since you've allready got two volunteers, I'm here to steal one of their places in this comic. (MUAHAHAHAHAA!!!)

So many comics that I must honestly say I didn't read all of them. The ones I did read, though numerous and perhaps sometimes running out of new stuff and ideas, were funny enough to keep me reading. So nice job I guess.

Anyway, I had another comic idea.....baised off of a real life event. I need a male volenteer or two for use as drunken extras.I thought I volunteered for that in chat ages ago. Or am I thinking of something else? o_O

Loyal: Yay! You posted it! But why is it so much smaller now?Oh yeah, Photobitchet likes to cut the size of damn near everything I put into it. Imageshack hostage is now edited into it.

Just a joke. :p Yeah, though. I have this test I have to study for and it's HUGE. If I don't ace it, I will have to be in all the normal classes and I won't be challenged. I don't really care, but my parents want me to get a 100, so I'm really stressed. Making sarcastic remarks is a way of dealing with stress (I do it at home too).

And all you groovy people who have expressed interest in being in the series: Thank you! You're giving me ideas for future episodes as we speak! Or.. as we write... I guess... But nonetheless, I hope to get in as many NPF people as I can, in large or small roles, depending on what I need. Seriously Mauve, I think your new series has great potential. Unfortunately I won't be here for quite some time to praise your comic-y skills, as I will have left for my vacation spot. I'll probably make a new NPF series while I'm over there.

DC- I liked the Star Wars and Matrix references (gave me quite a chuckle XD ), but I'm not sure I'm overly pleased about the part with yours truly. I know it was a joke, but that could be interpreted as you calling me a slut. I know that's not what you meant to do. (At least, I would hope not.) Just try to be careful with the sexual jokes, okay? I know I've already asked that people tone it down a bit, but maybe I wasn't firm enough about it. Thankees in advance.

Oh, that reminds me, I volunteer. If possible one of the Mauve Assassins (TM). Does that mean "people who try to assasinate Mauve" or "people who Mauve hires to assasinate others?" XD

Also- You know, it's really hard to type without using your pinky fingers. I cut my left pinky open today while slicing some bread (oh-ho, so THAT'S why you're supposed to cut away from you...) so now I'm trying to type with only three fingers on that hand. I don't like it. :(

Wow, comic thread just doesn't wanna stay still today!

FW: I like it. Now who will be the fighter...?

P9: Aw man, I forgot about Santa. You bastard, distracting us with your cookie sub-plots. XP

QQ: I really like the idea of the comic thread being a gigantic bulletin board... ^^ And so that's where Melfice's new picture is from! I got really excited when I realized that Ultima-Java starred old NPF/SOoO members. It's like a reunion with old friends! And seeing them star in a more or less serious story is awesome. It's funny, cause I came to NPF right as most of you guys were starting to fade away. But since I've read all the stuff you've done before, it feels like I know you. :/ It's just good to know that everyone's still around. Makes me warm inside. :P

Hey, thanks, Rick ^^ It's nice to hear stuff like that.

A bulletine board seemed like the bestway to illustrate the comic thread, and as the tradition goes when I draw these comics, I base them on things that have happened or been said on NPF.

Melfice needed to redesign his character design and history, and when he won the first Caption Contest on UJF, he asked for character art. I tried a slightly new art style for me when I drewit, and I think he likes it ^^

As for the UJ comic itself and the characters, I like that you see it that way. We really formed because SOoO bit the dust and we all wanted to work together anyways. We have 6 writers and lots of artistic talent so it should be a good comic in the long run hopefully.

Qeeko! Good to see you on NPF again! I've been following Ultima Java, and I think it's great! I always enjoy seeing your artwork and comics. You artistically inclined person, you.

Garud: Chuck Norris?!?! Egad!! XD

RZ- I love all the 8-bit sprites. Did you make most of those from scratch, or do that many people have 8-bit versions of themselves?

Mammoth- The quotes at the bottom of the cards are a great addition. I'm glad to see the cards are back!

PyrosNine- Pfft. I woulda gone for the cookies. XD

Fenris- Only one or two of your comics will load for me, but I really like what few I'm able to read. (Damn dial-up...) I love the pit of doom. XD I'll comment further once the 'net decides to obey my bidding again. :shifty:

And now, to finish some business that happened while I was offline...
Well, yeah. But then you'd only have the weakest form. You need Kame-Hame-Ultima-Ga 9. =P I like how this man thinks.
Well Melfice, she doesn't want to destory reality, so I'd imagine that she'll use a weaker version, right Mauve? Yeah, maybe kame-hame-ultima-ga 8.5. Y'know. Don't wanna go overboard or anything. That would be unnecessarily cruel.
