And all that food that SK doesn't eat has to go somewhere besides the trash...
And Mauve? Who's next on your hit list of pictures? And those guys in your Comics that were assumed to be Mafia look more like Jawas.

What can I say? Jawas are the source of all evil. They're almost as evil as... dare I say it... Fitted sheets.
And next on my list is either RickZarber or Silly Kitty. I say "or" because technically it's RZ's turn, but I'm having a really hard time drawing him for some reason. I might get SK's done before I'm happy with Rick's.
Here's the list, in the order I recieved the requests:
RickZarber
Silly Kitty
Garud
Hatake
Inbred Chocobo
Flarecobra

The Wizard Who Did It
Patrat
Oh, just to let you know: School starts back up for me on the 25 of September. That means I might be slowing down on the drawings a bit by that time.

Ok, POS, I listened to your song. The piano kinda drowns you out. Could we get some lyrics, or, even better, could you work on the mixing a bit so that your voice is above the piano?
You have a pretty good voice, though, and the tune is catchy. Is this song from the view of Pedro O' Sullivan?

Ok, POS, I listened to your song.
That makes one. Thanks!
The piano kinda drowns you out. Could we get some lyrics, or, even better, could you work on the mixing a bit so that your voice is above the piano?
Yeah, I noticed that. Admittedly, I kinda rushed the production to get it out as quickly as possible and that was actually about as good as I could get the vocals without them getting too distorted. My microphone is of rather poor quality, and trying to record using the power of one's computer is a bit tricky, especially with software that you're figuring out as you go.
I'm actually in the process of getting a band together and redoing the song, then passing the mixing part off to someone with a little more edumacation on the subject. Also, if I can get the guy I have in mind, he's also a damn good drummer.
You have a pretty good voice, though, and the tune is catchy. Is this song from the view of Pedro O' Sullivan?
Actually, it's pretty deeply from the point of view of the real, live guy typing on this side of the monitor. I'm not terribly good at opening up, and music is one of the few outlets I have that allows me to do that.
That said, I'm currently working on the song "Little Johnny Live-a-Lot", which I wrote some months back right here in the forums. As much as I like opening up and writing deeply personal songs, I also like being funny. All things in moderation.
POS: I wish I could hear it, but still having dial-up issues that won't let me open it. :( I is sad.
Understandable. I'm actually planning to get some high-speed internets in my house within the next couple days, and will be uploading versions of the songs onto something other than myspace, as I have become aware that streaming audio can be a crapshoot for some people. I'll also put the lyrics up here for you guys that want to know what I'm saying.
EDIT: Man, I really do say "actually" a lot!

Khael, best way to get in comics is to get sprited (either by yourself or by request [see: Arts & Crafts]) or make a comic yourself! I remember when I read through the entire Comic thread for the first time; I think I had my first comic up about a week later. XP

Ahem. As a creature of Lawful Evil alignment, I am obligated to remind you that the veracity of your statement is dubious and may in fact be entirely lacking. While it IS true that you, Raiden, are the God of Thunder in a specific pantheon, that does not give you copyright upon all uses of storm-related phenomena. Cases "Thor v. Zeus" and "Shamash v. Apollo" cited for precedent. Moreover the Free Magic Act of 1227 DR in response to the "Church of Auril v. Elminster & Cone of Cold" case earlier in that year specifically prohibits deities from prosecuting spellcasters for drawing on elements in their portfolio to perform acts of magic. While you DO possess the ability to prevent the use of those elements by a specific individual, it is considered an act of Divine Anger and cannot be declared after the spell has been cast...and even if that were to happen, it is possible for him to simply request another deity with a similar portfolio for those spells back. A divine conflict would likely spark if you stood your ground then, and support would flow to the other deity because you initiated the situation.
*summons a pair of glasses solely to take them off and polish the lenses*
Secondly, your specified title, as stated explicitly by you, is "God of Thunder". Technically speaking, the accused has done absolutely nothing involving thunder, a sonic shock wave caused by the rapid heating and expansion of the air produced around and inside a bolt of lightning, turning it to plasma and causing it to explode with an extremely loud sound, or "thunderclap". One was produced as a result of his lightning, but only as a natural byproduct, not the aim of the spell.
Furthermore, the conjuration effects of mass displacement of electrons as lightning was simply the thematic effect of his summoning spell. He is even more innocent of wrongdoing (in this case) than if he had simply been casting a Lightning Bolt spell.
You, sir, don't have a leg to stand on nor any reasonable grounds for taking legal action against my client. However, the threat of Electric Law Ninja has caused him undue stress and worry, causing him emotional trauma and potentially scarring him for life. As for the aforementioned memory wipes, they cause even more trauma. We may be "forced" to press charges against you.

Khael: Pishaw. You don't need Photoshop. Paint works fine as long as you don't fall into those occasional Noob-ish pitfalls (ex. light green grass, light blue sky--aka "Burns Teh Eyes!"--or resizing sprites by something other than 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, or 500% incriments). Or if you must use something more sophisticated than that, there's always the GIMP.
Mauve: >> << Check your PM box...
Raiden and Dragonsbane: DB's got everything pretty much covered, except for one other thing: the lightning summons was not cast by my brother. Rather, he simply clapped ("summoning" his steed) and the buffalo appeared in the manner that seemed most sensible to it at that moment. Recall if you will that it vanished in a cloud the first time. Seeing that it's a magical beast, I'm not at all sure of the mechanics, but it's entirely probable that it will never come or go in the same way more than once...
MB: Too right. I know why I haven't been posting (and now MT too) but why's everyone else so very busy all of a sudden?

My excuses for not making comics lately:
1) Marfan excuse. Can't use this excuse for the entire period of non-comikyness, but I can use it for my lack of comics within the past few weeks. My health has been getting swiftly worse lately-- I've spent the past few weeks in pain, although I haven't had to go to the hospital yet. It seems like all the pleuracy that I managed to bypass during the summer is coming back with a vengeance. No collapsed lungs, luckily, but lots of lung pain. I tend to lean forwards in my chair when I'm drawing or doing comics, and that's become a painful position to be in when I'm having lung pain. Video games are my consolation during these times, not drawings. As a result, I've been kicking ass at Devil May Cry, but accomplishing very little in the way of comics. Drew RickZarber's pic on a good day, haven't gotten back to work since. But then, I use this excuse for just about everything.
2) getting ready for school: So much to do before school starts. Driving me nuts.
3) Drawings. I've been working more on these drawings than I have on my comics, and I've..um.. kind of forgotten what my storyline was going to be about. I had a bunch of ideas, and I've forgotten half of them.
4) Dirge of Cerberus, Cowboy Bebop episodes, and V for Vendetta. Rented them yesterday, decided that I really didnt' want to work on the comics/drawings like I said I would.
5) General laziness. At least I'm honest.

I've..um.. kind of forgotten what my storyline was going to be about. I had a bunch of ideas, and I've forgotten half of them.A handy tip to you and others with ongoing storylines: make an outline. Helps keep you on track and it helps you remember where you're going with the story. I've had a text file outlining AnM since the beginning (though it's changed a bit along the way).
I also write out the dialouge for my comics before I slap them together, and I'm pretty glad I do, or I'd have to re-write the next comic by now. Plus, my copy of the gimp has this thing about crashing when I use the stroke tool (for bubbles), so it helps to only have to type everything once. But that's more of a personal thing. Still, notes and outlines are good pals to have.
Also, sorry to hear about the lung pain.

Okay, RickZarber, you got me. I can do some pretty amazing stuff with MS paint. The thing is I feel so violated every time I use it. I glance down at that little clock in the corner screen, and it dawns on me that I have spent 3 hours recoloring something meticulously by hand when photoshop's magic selector wand could have let me do it in 2.5 seconds.
Hate MS Paint. Okay, I'll stop being such a wuss and go oldschool.

Near the bottom of this (http://www.bobandgeorge.com/Other/Guides/Spriting.html) guide is a method of really quick MS Paint recoloring using the Eraser tool. Alternatively, you could download the gimp. (http://www.gimp.org/) It has that magic selector wand too. Or, there's the final option, asking one of us to do it.
Depending on how custom a sprite you want, I may be willing. Send me a PM if you wish to discuss this further.

A handy tip to you and others with ongoing storylines: make an outline. Helps keep you on track and it helps you remember where you're going with the story. I've had a text file outlining AnM since the beginning (though it's changed a bit along the way).Yeah, I've got a two-page JAQ outline that I wrote out after the first few comics. Maybe I'll post it at some point in the future after I finish the series. The only downside to my outline is that I'm trying to keep JAQ at exactly 100 comics, so occasionally I lose the freedom to do whatever in a given comic because I need to hit certain plot points by comic number x.
I also write out all of my comics in advance. All the JAQs since #8 are scripted, sometimes mere hours, sometimes weeks or months, before they actually get made. Though most of the time I don't strictly adhere to the script. There's usually some dialogue or panel layout changes that occur during the actual making of the comic.
Mauve: You're too hard on yourself. Your drawings rock. ;)

10-06-2006, 12:12 PM
Well, as "Head of PR" for an organization that isn't supposed to exist, your job is essentially a well-paid sinecure disguised as a long-titled bureaucratic position in SK's regime. If someone gets too close to the truth, and questions are asked, your job is to look cute and deny that we exist to all the reporters and television showhosts. This will happen rarely, of course, we're very well hidden, and all questions shall be quickly retracted after the truth-seeker's child, spouse, pet, or other relative "goes to camp".

It's a gelatoría, because Mike thought it would be funny if we were all holding ice creamm cones and I couldn't think of what the word for ice cream shop is in Spanish. Lacking an internet connection at the time and thinking that gelato was clse enough and probably a cognate, I made the sign read as it does.
Also, while I made ice cream sprites for all of us, I felt it was more trouble than it was worth, so that sight gag died in production.

Ice cream is "helado," I think. I don't know if "Heladoria" is a word, though. :shifty: I dunno... Maybe "La Tienda del Helado" would work?? Or "Almacén del Helado?"
Okay, I'm getting too involved in this. I'll shut up now.

"Heladoría" would've been best, I'll bet ("helado" sounds suspiciously like "gelato"). Fortunately, I can always say that the guy who owns the shop doesn't live in Abuelas Calientes, doesn't speak Spanish, and ordered a sign that makes the residents groan every time they see it.
Hooray for ret-con!

Wow Loyal, those are terrific! Kudos to you! Are you doing a series?Sorta. There's definately a larger story behind the pictures. There's a reason why Nexus is giving another guy the Boot to the Face, and consequently a reason why he's fighting against a squad of soldiers in an arena. Right now, I'm just giving myself the biggest incentive for visualizing the plot, and therefore making the plot easier to write.
My plots are written like a Sudoku puzzle: I have a three here, a one here, a few fives over there, and the rest, I figure out as I go along. I make each new number fit in with the rest of the puzzle, and go back and change previous things if the new part makes something not work. These drawings are the threes and fives. ;)

What I'm saying is, I should've been trashed seconds after entering the room.Ah man, I wish I'd known that earlier. Ah well, I'll figure out how to work it into the next one.Is he in a ninja costume? As per his request.
Rick, pirates drink grog, not rum. It's rum served hot, spiced and lemoned. Don't let Captain Morgan fool you, he was never more than a lee helmsman. That would mean Johnny Depp lied to me, though, and I can't accept that.
And Rick, remember my old Spritesheet? It had some alternate costumes for me....Hint hint, right? :p

In hindsight, I could have delivered that with a little more thought. I could have made it clearer what phil_ and _mike were doing exactly, I shouldn't have used AJ since she's already a webcomic character, I could've made the TF Gun allusion a bit more specific...
Ah well. Maybe once I'm actually back into comicing I'll give stuff like that more thought.

But now that you have drawn me, we all know now your drawing will just get worse and worse since obviously the best thing you could draw was me.

It's one thing to get the pose itself, but it's quite another to make it look like someone just threw a dagger, or that fellow is channelling a kick-ass spell, or (in my case) making it look like some guy really just got a face full of foot.

Mauve, your art is no doubt better than mine. Why? A number of reasons. (http://generally-cliched.deviantart.com/) One of which is the fact that it's in COLOR. And GOOD USAGE of color.
Me? I can't do jack squat with color. (And yes, I am such an idiot that I put a double-negative in there.) I can't even draw myself in color if I had a mirror placed perpendicular to my clipboard surface, and I drew myself in the same style that I draw my own characters, with 256 different colored pencils at my disposal.

Your drawings are very good, GC. I like your style of drawing. I kinda like them in black and white. If you really wanted to put yours in color, maybe you should try running a drawing through a copy machine and then practice coloring on the copies. That's what I do. That way if I screw up royally, I've still got the master to make another copy of and start again. What's nice about your drawings is that because they're done in such a simple style, they won't require a great deal of ellaborate shading and such.

No it's towards all girls because the guys are always hinting at the girls that they should be lesbians and doing lesbianic things, and, like Loyal said, often times people play along. I do it too. (such as Kitty and I when we are like "let's make babies!" as is seen earlier)

I'm not allowed to give enthusiastic criticism. The fact that your drawings are excellent goes without saying.
If you remove the whole part of mythology about lamias, remove the context(NPF) of the picture, and you only give a passing glance at the picture rather than inspecting it closely, it's possible to mistake FC for an effeminate male rather than a female. No, I don't know how you could fix it, and I'm not sure you need to.

A guy got his head cut off. That's all the humor I really need.
Though a few fart jokes might liven things up a bit.

You know me so well. ;) I almost feel I should apologize for all the drama and the lack of jokes, but it's important to the story right now. I will bring the humor back in the next Act, though.
Pfft. Who said webcomics need to be funny all the time?
I like where it's going. I was only kidding about what was under the spoiler tags.
I don't mind the cliffhangers at all.
Yes. And if you can do it by the time I get to comic 67, I'll incorporate the change into Act Three like I did for Demon, Loyal, Fenris, Flare, and myself for Act Two. (That goes for anyone else as well.)
Eep! Consider myself getting to work, if I can find the time. Any idea what 67 is being produced?

I swear, the suspense in your comic is so thick, Rick, that I could cut it up and serve it along side some mashed potatoes.
Mmmm....drama-y.
All the drama I can fit into my comic is whether or not I can play the pipe organ.

RZ: I just noted that whenever I'm in your comics I am doing something violent towards you. Are you trying to tell me something?

It hurts good?
Seriously, I had no idea. It must be subconscious.

Wow. I was in someone else's comic for a change. I gotta admit that using Wing-Wong comics would supply a near endless amount of comic ideas.

Loyal, that looks sweet, man! How'd you go about doing this? I did something similar for that Melfice pic, but I'm wondering if you found an easier way.
The only thing that nags at me--and it's a little thing; watch your foreshortening.

I just slap another layer (For the colors) on top, set its blending mode to "Multiply", and color it in like a coloring book (Which, yes, is incredibly easy :D).
The drawing itself was completely shaded before scanning, so except in extreme shading circumstances (Like that mage's hood over his face), entire areas can be filled with one solid color and it'll still come out right.
I also colored the image itself in a high resolution (I think 200) before bringing it down to the size it is now, which might've helped the quality.
The only thing that nags at me--and it's a little thing; watch your foreshortening. It didn't look right either way when I was drawing it, to be honest. <<

Doesn't make it any less awesome. I have to wonder though - when will we get to hear the Loyal/Nexus backstory in its entirety?
Also, on an unrelated note, check out the milestone this thread is about to reach. Geez. O_o;

Oh, wow, yeah that's definately easier than my way. Mine involved scanning the sketch, copying the image, pasting it into an alpha channel, loading that channel as the selection, creating a new layer with that selection, and filling with black. Then creating a new layer under it for coloring purposes.
Or something like that. It was complicated, that's what I'm getting at.
Tonight's JAQ will probably be delayed a bit. I haven't started it yet... Edit: And now it seems I'm going to the movies, so I probably won't get much done tonight. That said, they cut my hours this week, so I'll have time to finish it by at least Wednesday.

Doesn't make it any less awesome. I have to wonder though - when will we get to hear the Loyal/Nexus backstory in its entirety? That's a very good question. I can tell you that it wouldn't look good in sprites, and it's just detailed enough to rule out drawing it. So, I had the novel idea of making a typewritten story of it, broken into chapters.
Though I'm not quite sure if it's okay to post it here once I have enough to justify it, being that it has nothing whatsoever to do with the forum or any of its denizens besides myself (And that validation seems to be stretching it). Can I get some confirmation on that?
Also, on an unrelated note, check out the milestone this thread is about to reach. Geez. O_o;I'm honestly surprised nobody's trying to claim that milestone for themselves. I was almost looking forward to seeing folks post nonsense to get the post, and have mods continually delete said posts (Like what happened in the Comic thread). Heh.

Mine involved scanning the sketch, copying the image, pasting it into an alpha channel, loading that channel as the selection, creating a new layer with that selection, and filling with black. Then creating a new layer under it for coloring purposes.Whenever I tried a method like that, I couldn't get anything resembling straight, solid lines (Like way back here (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=337693&postcount=790)), leaving me to redraw the lineart myself before adding color... Which as you can imagine was rather frustrating and a major motivator for simply posting them as originally made).
