D'oh, Flare got the big 5000. Alas, I am too late. But I shall take this first small step into the grand new era of the comic discussion thread, in the form of post #5001.

I love the ripple effect with Dragonsbane dissolving away. That's just... uber-cool. And I can't wait to see how they get out of this new fiery doom they find themselves in. Because fiery doom is also uber-cool.

A plague upon your beloved photoshop with its awesome special effects and superior picture quality. Because I'm still stuck with MSPaint. And dial-up. But oooh nooo, I'm not jealous.

I seem to remember a time when I'd do something here... like, uh, comment on people's posts in some other, related thread. Yeah, that's what I used to do.

Seriously, there's been some good stuff for the last month (a month with only one page? Madness!). JAQ is awesome and wonderful, as usual. Pyros' weird fight with Cindy continues to be weirder. And Loyal,Though I'm not quite sure if it's okay to post it here once I have enough to justify it, being that it has nothing whatsoever to do with the forum or any of its denizens besides myself (And that validation seems to be stretching it).I've posted two movies and several comics that were just me and my brother. I've posted a couple that were just myself (and they're some of my favorites). So, yeah, you and your imaginary friend shouldn't be a problem.

Dun dun dun... the traitor unmasked.

I wonder who it's gonna be! DAMN YOU, MAN!
Damn you and your cliffhangers!

Seriously, keep it up like this. I like it, with all the suspense, and all.
Though, I realize you must've written this series completely... but if you ever make a next series, try to make it even more suspenseful!

We've got too many "har har laugh now" comics already, in my opinion. (Not that THAT'S a bad thing, but I hope you guys get what I'm saying. >_>)

Though, I realize you must've written this series completely... but if you ever make a next series, try to make it even more suspenseful!Well, enjoy it while it lasts, cause there's only three more to go before I go back to jokes for a while. It will go back to the serious cliffhanger style at the very end though. I don't really have anything written for Act Three besides the vaugest of outlines, but I've known how it's all gonna end since near the very beginning. (This is discounting the first few comics, basically, the ones before you showed up. I actually didn't have a story line for my story until around that point.) So yeah, I've been waiting to get to the "good stuff" for a while now.

As for what will come after JAQ... well, we'll burn that bridge when we cross it, yes?Me encanta.Curse my four years of German! Now I'll have to go look that up... *a few moments later* Ah, I see! Thanks!

Loyal: I second Phil. Go for it man. Lay it on us!

Well, at least I know I'm not the traitor, as I'm not in there at all. Yay!

These cliffhangers are seriously making my nails shorter though. I bet the traitor is Rick himself, or in reality his evil twin ZuRick from another dimension.

On that note, I leave you to ready up my next comic, but let me first say this: If you're going to burn a bridge, can I bring the gasoline? Burning bridges is fun, like making family ties! Except not!

I already know who the trator is, as me and Rick discussed it.

And I'll give a hint: The trator doesn't care for ninja or pirate.

Melfice
02-02-2007, 02:24 PM
... that could apply to a whole lot of people.
Then again, it might not, if you're saying what I think you're saying, added to my own suspicions...

I might've figured it out, but I don't know for sure.

EDIT: Hmm... doubt and reconsideration...

Loyal

...I thought Demon was a ninja?

I thought it might be him regardless, but that's mostly due to his departure and therefore being a perfect killer-offer. <<

RickZarber
02-06-2007, 09:51 PM
I should mention straight off that this story has the real Demon's seal of approval, as I discussed it in-depth with him around the time of Episode 50, and it's been planned since near the beginning of Act Two. So really, it would have happened even if he had stayed.

My works of late are heavily into the R&D phases. Practice sketches (http://img215.imageshack.us/my.php?image=harpypracla5.jpg), basic outlines to be fleshed out later, obtaining permission for use (http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=581224&topic=33357747) of certain intellectual property (I still haven't gotten in contact with him, so I'm probably just gonna make up new names and stuff. >=L), and complete rewrites of plots and so forth in progress are commonplace for my stuff nowadays.

Though as has been seen, it's been ultimately worth it when done. Right guys? =D

WHERE THE HELL ARE THE COMICS! D=I know I've missed my regular update, but I have a really good excuse: my brother has mono. And seeing as I've been using his laptop for photoshop/internet purposes (as neither work on my PC), I dare not touch said laptop now seeing as he's been using it pretty much every waking bed-ridden hour for like a week now.....

Yeah, JAQ is on hiatus until his laptop is decontaminated.

Rick, what're we gonna do when you're done? It's been, what, a year and a half, two years you've been making JAQ? I'd check, but it'd be really inconvenient. It's like a feature of the forum, and it'll be a shame when we don't have JAQ to look foward to.

And I believe the proper response to Mauve's valentine is "Oh, what mischief we NPFers get into."

Also, Fenry, did you change your sprite again, or is the hair different because you're on your back?

Fenris

Also, Fenry, did you change your sprite again, or is the hair different because you're on your back?
It's because I'm on my back. The hair wouldn't rest naturally on his head.

The other* explanation is that I ripped it from Sabin's spritesheet and am too lazy to make the hair look exact.

Exit Demon Stage Right.

With all of the rivalry between Rick and I, I daresay that his was an appropriate outcome. However, unlike my Comic Counterpart, I actually do wonder what everyone else thinks. So what say you, NPF? Did I betray the JAQ group?

Hmmm. Much like "Who shot JR?" and "Who shot Mr. Burns?" the potential is there for a "Who Betrayed the JAQ Group?" contest.

I wonder ...

PyrosNine
03-06-2007, 12:58 AM
I still think you should spontaneously combust. Or maybe, as I wanted but didn't do as I thought it would be too hard to put in comic form, were suddenly attacked by Godzilla and his Sailor DinoScouts.

Personally, I don't think you did it. comicRick just has poor coping skills for the death of Orin, and is totally blowing things out of proportion. I mean, death is in itself a minor inconvenience at best, like stubbing one's toe. It happens.

Now all they need to do is get some magical ducttape, make a few pacts with a few seedy deities, and/or perform a luck roll to see if the sheer odds of probability will not only raise Orin from the dead, but also give back the keys and turn Dragonsbane into a Jackalope.

Loyal
03-06-2007, 02:08 PM
Demon's innocent in my book, really. That one incrimination--Demon handed over the keys to DB--Was the final straw for "Okay, this guy's just grasping at straws here". Rick is stressed and had just lost a teammate. He needed somebody to lash out on, and who better than his supposed rival? Besides, let's face it. Demon is/was a ladies' man. He joined shortly after we had some women on the team, and spent the better part of his membership flirting and/or coming up with overly romanticized ideas (See: Rescuing Flare).

That aside, let's look at the alternative: Nobody at all.

Let's be honest, DB is an insanely powerful Archmage. I hardly think it beyond his powers to do some of the simple scrying and mind suggestion needed to get us where we are now.

Oh, right--Good job everybody. =D

RickZarber

Well I think it's gonna turn out to be--

Oh, wait, I probably shouldn't chime in, should I? We're done with drama and cliffhangers for a while anyways...

You guys have a good grasp on the various situations. I'm glad. As I was making last night's comic I was thinking, man, Rick's really coming off as a total asshole lately. I mean, you guys are all reacting the way I'd hoped you would, but I was afraid I was making my character look pretty crappy in the process. But you guys seem to get what's going on better than I could've hoped. And you think up stuff I hadn't even thought of, which equals inspiration! Hooray!

Now I just have to go write some more comics, cause this last one used up my script buffer. (Granted, I wrote these months ago...) I'm actually going to go against my original outline for the first time with the beginning of Act III, so that means careful re-planning. Also, anyone who would like a bit part let me know, cause I'm gonna have a lot of cameos in the next half-dozen comics or so!

I'm not likely it, as being the self-named Thiefy Bastard means I'm far too interested in personal gain and self-interest to even consider being a lackey of any sort.

Even if I was a lackey of his for any period of time, I'd either have quickly stolen everything DB had of value and find a new identity to exist under (And universe...and reality, I suppose), or drop tons of hints to my eventual betrayal that the audience picks up on but the cast completely misses (Dramatic irony rocks), before stealing everything the group had to offer and finding a new identity, et al.

Further, I'm saying nothing of Skyshot for obvious reasons, but I can suspect Fenris. Being thrown in a dungeon for soliciting? Contributing nothing useful to the party (Or not that I remember anyway, ehe)?

Loyal, have you heard the saying that if you read the first and last episode of a webcomic you can usually tell if it's worth reading the rest?

I'd say this comic passes that test brilliantly.I can't say I've ever heard that saying, nor am I sure where you found the last episode (Could I see it? =P), but thanks.I'm kinda curious as to how this is an origins story, though. I thought we'd get to see how Nexus came into being.Since neither Loyal nor Nexus are the type of guys who would internally monologue this sort of thing, it wouldn't make much sense to just jump right into it for no reason.

This is just an introductory strip, and will be followed by a few more before getting into the meat of the story. My biggest weakness in writing is going at too fast a pace for it to be catching or even particularly comprehensible.

Regarding whether it is or isn't an Origins story... Well, I'm not about to spoil my own story after the first strip, but I assure you it is what it's supposed to be. ;D... you know doomsday spells they haven't even named yet, let alone figured out what element they are.

Hey guys I'm tryin' to look at places we can clean up or combine some of the older stickies. I was thinking whether it would work to just combine this discussion thread with the actual comics thread.

Of course I have basically no involvement whatsoever with this corner of the community so I defer this question to you all who are involved and whatever you think might work best. So let me know if this is a real good idea I came up with or just me bein' stupid and sticking my nose in where said nose doesn't need to be.

And of course if anyone has any other ideas for where a mod like myself might be able to improve the NP member comicking experience then by all means let me know.

Loyal
03-20-2007, 02:55 PM
To be honest, it's probably better the way it is. Both threads have over a thousand posts, and each get a decent number of posts fairly regularly.

Also, I can't find it at all pleasant to have to sift through numerous discussion posts to get to a comic post, or vice versa. The latter applies especially to those users with... shall we say, unsatisfactory internet services.

Fenris
03-20-2007, 03:09 PM
Yeah, Loyal's right. Especially when we get juggernauts like Rick and Loyal doing a series, then you get upwards of 15 comments per comic.

If y'all wanted to reduce on clutter, you could create a "community" forum where comics, camwhores, and comments on both could go, as well as the spritesheet thread, and maybe some more stuff.

Not really. As you should remember, I did do a previous comic (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showpost.php?p=389922&postcount=1000) with the same spritesheet.

I like Nexus' expression in the second-to-last panel. Nice work.

However, panels two and three, in my opinion, would be better if they weren't separated, due to the bubble layout. Actually, it's just the bubble layout there. It seems like I should read all of Loyal's dialog, the each of Mauve's bubbles. It may have been better to separate Loyal's bubbles into two, and move the "Aww" to the right a little with a longer tail with the point remaining where the current point is.

But, who am I to talk/complain? Maybe last fall...

I left the helmet off deliberately (for now). I'm reserving it for battles. I felt it impedes too much with the facial expressions.

Nope. But feel free to make some. A little color mishmash of Trunks from Dragon Ball Z and Locke's sprite from FF6 would do nicely. Dark purple hair is key.

Couple women friends of mine insisted on making an 'imaginary' character for me, and since then, that's always what I envisioned someone called "Mirai Gen" to be.

Also, it might be too gross to be featured on NPF.

So how many people are you going to go through before you finally choose some and continue with the main story? And this is totally not a request for me to be featured as a subcharacter okay I'm lying it really is.

Also also, fart jokes are always funny. I recall from the Alphabet of Manliness, it says "the delivery is the punchline and the punchline is the delivery."

No cutting off of any appendages or sewing them back on, we just transport them and try to stop the bleeding.

I've given the phisiology of a lamia some serious thought myself, GC.

Like the biological implications of having one half of your body be of a cold-blooded reptile, and the other half a warm-blooded mammal, among other things. However, I'm still trying to figure out if that's really a practical place to put it. The tail would really get in the way and limit movement during... er, ahem.

Great job. XD

On the other hand, that there's pornography/hentai/whatever the hell you want to call it, when this (to me at least) has looked more more like a "How would a lamia 'operate' biologically if they actually existed" discussion.

Also, it might help if there was a slightly larger space between each line in the speech bubbles (right now it seems like they're almost overlapping). Both valid points. Format and conciseness... concision... whatever. Being concise and visual format are my greatest weaknesses. Heh. The bubbles especially need work. Panel three was intentional, to indicate the speech was close together in terms of when it happened. The next panel, however, is a good example of... Whoops, there I go again.

This strip clocked in at a solid 600x800 pixels. What else might be a good size?

Everybody else: Thanks! =D

RickZarber

Just to clarify, I don't mean that the bubbles themselves are overlapping (that's not a problem, really) but rather that the text within them is too close together from line to line.

As the page loaded and jumped around, I chanted "Come on, JAQ! Come on, JAQ!" I groaned when I saw that it was, in fact, not JAQ.

Then I read the comic. I don't think I've laughed so hard at an NPF member comic in quite some time. I'd love to think it's not just because I'm mentioned. Seriously, that was great.
