Just to be clear, you realize that these threads are for comics about and starring other NPFers and not just comics by forum members, right?
Um, I do now? :sweatdrop

Actually, it would probably be a lot easier. Provided anyone wanted me to do them, gave me a description of what they wanted, would allow me to do it in FF1-style structure (colors excluded), and happened to be someone I knew enough to write well or told me how to write them.

Any takers? XD

@ Fifth: Yeah. Roughly 100, I assume? When it said "Database Error" I guess it wasn't kidding. :sweatdrop :sweatdrop

Well, many of us already have sprites. (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=7508) The best way to find out how to write the characters is to read other people's comics. Alternatively, many of the people in the Avatar RPs have sprites as well, and that's as good a way as any to see what they're like.

But we're not saying you have to do an NPF member comic. Your comic is welcome, it should just have its own thread under either Arts and Crafts or Books and Comics.

EDIT: I may have to skip doing a JAQ this week. I just don't have the free time available (unless I can somehow wrangle it tomorrow). If not, I'll try to do some kind of comic to make up for it.

EDIT EDIT: Okay, so no JAQ this week. You get YACC CROP IMP guest comics (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?p=661693#post661693) instead.

I feel like I should post something about Mauve's & POS's movie, but I can't think of anything witty. It's funny enough to make me make a "Good job" post with no joke or anything. Also, I need to show that I'll still comment on stuff without me in it.

Good job. I thought it was funnier than the NPF Movie preview.

I have questions!

Why am I a secretary? My handwriting's awful and I'm not keen on working with people, even if it's just telling them to wait in the lobby. Especially if it's telling them to wait in the lobby. Darn theater.

Why's MT staring at me like that? Is it 'cause he wants a rival like IC? 'Cause he has Dynamite to glare at, if it's for that.

Also, are you aware of this? (http://parkercomics.com/NPF/muavemagic.php?comicID=1) Was that a reference, or just another guy with the same idea/query?

Dangit, it has been a while since I last commented here.

I need to catch up on a lot of stuff, like the new plot advances and new story arcs. But I can't really since I'm busy with university and such. The birthday comic I did was a special treat for you people since I figure someone here expects me to do a comic on my birthdays.
I lost sleep over that. Blargh.

That said, I like to see new faces here, as well as the returning artists who strive to keep the NPF comics thread sustained with enough awesome to remain fully functional. We all know who those are. (And I can safely say that I saw at least ONE of Mauve's videos.)

Also: guess what the easter egg in my comic implies about my upcoming birthday present! Or not, it doesn't matter.

Nice job, RMB. He has that lovely vacant Paint Chibi stare that I adore. :D

Actually, RMB, I'm pretty sure Mauve uses a mouse to draw. She's hardcore like that. Why yes, I am hardcore like that. (Actually I'm too cheap to go out and buy a tablet, but I like the term hardcore better.)

Maybe she uses a wireless? She uses the touch-pad on her laptop, since said laptop doesn't have a real mouse. I actually find it easier to use the finger pad thing than a mouse, since it gives me more control, but that might be because I'm so used to it. It's pretty much all I've been using for the past four or five years.

You can actually do some pretty sweet stuff on Paint with just a touchpad. Back on a forum I used to haunt in my younger years, I made Paint icons for folks all the time:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/marfqueen/windchild.bmp
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/marfqueen/jandalf2.bmp
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/marfqueen/tiger.bmp
These are the actual sizes I drew them. Ugh. I have a really awesome one I did back in '04, but it's at home on my laptop and I can't find it on my photobucket. Maybe I'll post it later.

Anyway, it just takes some practice. Getting used to how the mouse moves is the hardest part. I find that magnifying the area you're working on helps quite a bit.

New comic on my part, and yes, it is about NPF. I really have no better place to put it, but if someone complains and tells me to take it elsewhere, I will. I'm complaining, I'm complaining! I hope people got the joke with the clocks. I had to be careful about how I positioned them.

The great part is I had a bit of a better idea what I was doing this time around, so I'm happier with the screen on the laptop. I also cut off some of the bottom of borrowed screens from the last comic to make the fact I was a pixel off vertically between the table and chair less noticeable. It did, however, leave a slight line when I pasted back over the full room because of a slight blur difference, but most people probably wouldn't notice. I'll be using ten from now on for a defined standard. My first shot was 11-13 somewhere, because I use a touchpad and it gets tweaky sometimes.

The rest of it was pretty easy. I just screencapped my desktop with the defragger window open, copy/pasted the top bar, and messed with the colored lines a bit. I also tried a new speech bubble style more similar to what Brian uses because of space constraints stemming from adding borders to all sides of the comic this time. I think it looks a bit more professional that way, but it is smaller. I'm also pretty happy with the white line between the comic and legal crap. I may use it again. I just wish I'd been able to fill in the bottom right corner a bit more.

That would help. So far, I've only done Mauve (who got to choose between 2 versions) and Skyshot (who will just have to deal :p ). Then I have myself and Phantom7 from my own projects. Although, instead of 3 colors and black, I've been using up to 5 colors and black. Plus cutting out the outlines as a stylistic decision.

My god Bluestar! Where'd you get the tornado sprite? :D Mauve's going on a Taz rampage! I demand more of this tornadoey goodness.

bluestarultor
10-29-2007, 12:17 PM
It's actually stolen and modified from FF4 with some wind version of Kary. Babarrecia or something. I just took the tornado form, cropped her head and hair, recolored it, and put it in at an appropriate size (2x). The rest of the sprites are 4x for foreground, 3x for middle, and 2x for distance.

Edit: Oh, and it's not so much she's rampaging as a poor attempt on my part to try to do one of those cartoon tornado costume changes, but still give reason to believe Jay is screwed due to his placement between Mauve and Marie. He still is (Marie pushes him out of the way), but not because of a tornado attack. I thought it would be funny to have a costume change sequence that simply involved Mauve standing up. XD

Ah, well, I needed someone to complete the joke, so I kinda just used a character from the non-NPF comic I'm hoping to do. :sweatdrop The character's name is Marie. The character I use for me is named Jay. Phantom7 is played by the sprite known as Todd. Hence, some of the disparity. They live in a world similar to ours, but not quite the same.

Actually, I've been trying to get the real Marie on here, but haven't had much success. She tends to drive back to Green Bay every weekend and the rest of her time is generally spent on coursework and probably various things other than comics and forums.

Oh, I get it now! It's blue bringing his comic's freak brigade to meet our freak brigade! Heh, I've been kinda tabbing between the comic and discussion, trying to figure it out. It's a lot funnier, now that I get it.

Though, in the last panel, there's some serious weirdness with Mauve's legs. Usually, on 8-bit Final Fantasy style sprites, you can only see one foot. As it is... it's kinda like she grew a third foot out of the bottom of her original feet. Otherwise, it's a pretty good 8-bit Mauve sprite. Beats any previous attempts.

Plus, it has everything Paint has except an airbrush tool, which I'm kinda disappointed by. It does, however, have other effects on the menu bar that make up for it. The cloud function with transparency allows for some nice effects.

Other than that, there's always redoing it manually, but that might take more time and effort than you're willing to spend.

By the way, quickie comic up at 10:30 last night.

phil_

I prefer to say what style they're in. Mauve's was Final Fantasy 5 style, making it 16-bit. Blue made them more in the FF1 or FF3 style, making his 8-bit. But neither of them really are 8 or 16-bit, 'cause they were made on modern computers, hence why I prefer "[insert game] style."

Oh, and they're not loading for me.

Also, I demand Rick Zarber produce more of his comics. Else I shall descend from this unholy demiplane wherein I have secreted myself, and tear the flesh from a thousand innocent virgins, sending it spinning into a black whirlwind of cackling madness and destruction composed mostly of tiny, ravenous mouths filled with obsidian teeth, each vengeful maw a portal into places beyond hell, where even pain would be a blessed relief from the suppuration of sanity and being, as identity splinters and time distorts in the most monstrous of ways. This engine of extraplanar death shall grow as it feeds, spreading horror across the lands, time stretching eternally for those enduring the last agony of death between its teeth, until it last it consumes the world and reaches out for your beloved sun, snuffing all life in this Solar System and ushering in an eternity of darkness.

Preemptive "Hooray" for JAQ!

Hooray for Ice Climbers! Though there's no way you could've known this, I usually play as Nana in the orange because I like the colors better than the default and because it's more fun to yell "Dammit Popo!" Or, we could've both been Popo, but where's the humor in that? I heartily approve of our rendition as my main Smash characters.

And hooray for Thadius' comics becoming more readable. Yes, it is quite boring going mad without power.

Well, for this one, I did something really weird that I'll never do again. I printed out the first Churuya comic (yes, this was referential humor, for those who didn't know), then I traced it in pencil while making the necessary changes, then I scanned it, selected most of what wasn't white and filled it with black, and colored it.

So, that one was hastily scanned and edited pencil.

I can totally send you a copy of both of the ones in there, if you want them. Most of these sprites are actually done as needed, so that's literally all I have of them. The only one I have anywhere near a full sheet for is Jay. And there are still many positions I have yet to make for him. Because I literally MAKE all of them. Rick, it could be way worse. You could have This song stuck in your head. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuhicQEYHIg)

Funny comic though and Flare I am sure you have some subtle mind control over Rick.

Still Alive is so unforgettable because it's a simple, insane song. That song is far too quick and complicated to a non-japanese speaking listener.

The song is a triumph.
I'm making a note here, huge success

That's a pretty nice comic, Mondt.

Whenever I'm reminded of RaiRO, I have this sudden burst of, "Why don't I start playing again?" quickly followed by "No! You weren't having fun! Why would you even think that?!" I think it's 'cause I pine for adventure in a world where adventure is impossible. Am I the only ex-RaiRO-player that happens to?

Dragonsbane
11-27-2007, 12:49 AM
Dragonsbane gots kids?

To quote Scary-Go-Round, "When a bear walks the forest floor, he knows not how many insects he crushes. He merely knows that there were many."

Also, Pictish is the most effeminate-looking male RaiRO character I have ever seen, including other Stalkers. There are Gypsies that look less female than Pictish. Pictish is RaiRO's version of Bridget. It's a trap.

Loyal: Hooray! More story! I especially liked the concept of Magidyne. Also, I was quite tickled by the alliteration of "affluent influence"... not really any sort of comment, but there you have it. Can't wait for the next installment.

Mondt: I found the comic funny, and I've never even played RaiRO. What's the deal with the PA format though? That seems an injoke worth explaining.I think it's 'cause I pine for adventure in a world where adventure is impossible.Fuck. That. Noise. You're only, what, like four/five hours away? ...Yeah. We're goin' on an adventure.

Mondt
11-28-2007, 02:52 PM
Me and pictish were basically having that very conversation, minus some jackassery, and I was like, "Man, you are reminding me of someone... A comic character I think." And we brainstormed for a few minutes before we came up with Tycho, which was totally right in the first place. And the kind of bullshit sympathy pity party it seemed I was looking for reminded me of Gabe.

It just kind of happened.

Edit: reason I said you had to be there is 'cause I figured it wouldn't be as funny if I ahd to explain it all out. Ya know? Like you had to be part of the conversation for the humor to multiply. *shrug*
That's a pretty nice comic, Mondt.

VERY LATE Edit:

Yes, I know this is VERY LATE, but it's better than a double post. For everyone wondering about my comics, I can tell you that I'm still working on the Comic Con arc. However, this one is designed to tie it all together, and is taking FOREVER, especially due to my limited free time as of late. Hopefully, work will let off next week, but I'm not holding my breath, as we're down TWO part-time workers, and I've had 24-28 hours a week for the past month plus, as well as school. Again, sorry for the delay. I'll hopefully have it done in the next two weeks (yes, it is THAT bad).

This has been a Public Service Announcement.

Due to lateness, you all get: Pyros Nine Tails 20: IN HD! It's huge! Readable! Not much action, I warrant you, but I was originally intending to make it into a movie. But then I realized that I suck, suck terribly.

I decided to test it out as a just a musical flipbook with Windows Movie Maker...and this is it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eACJ-5zbPuQ) Youtube's compression butchered it more than I thought it would (I have an FLV converter, and it turned the WMV into a much better looking flick than this piece of crap for less file space!)

I may try something a bit better later.

A big foot booting people, actually. The foot is at 4x, where the rest of the panel is at 3x. Frankly, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't really have a sprite persona and there is a distinct lack of pictures of him in real life. For all I know, he might be a small Vietnamese child. blue and Big Mac: Great as always! Keep it up! It's nice having new talent around to keep the place going!

Mauve: Imagine to yourself that I have this big rubber stamp that says "AWESOME" on it. Now, whenever you do something, and possibly wonder, "What would Rick think of this?", just imagine me slamming that stamp down on it. ...Or I could save myself some time and just stamp your forehead. Either way.
