As we all know, Loyal is too awesome to die.
...Okay, fine. He survives most of the time only because he's the only one sane enough in this place to act as any sort of exposition device... And is usually the first to rise to adversity, seeing as he has enough common sense to realize when something is wrong...
...I just realized, whom once started as a simple thief has turned into, possibly, the most heroic character among the NPF cast. How weird is that?
Thadius

No, Loyal, trust me. This time, it will NOT be you surviving until the end.

POS, three things.
One, I put you in my series as my first ever zombie. You should be honored to be the start of my minion horde. Plus you got a mention in the second comic I made today, and I rarely make two in the same day.
Two, Thad is reserved for my friends, of which I'm not yet sure about with you. I put you in my comic because I was wondering who to use as the 'first zombie' and then I remembered you asked to be in more comics.
Three, I burned your lawn. And sowed it with salt. And acid balloons underground that'll pop and turn your property to a giant acid pool should you try to grow grass ever again.
No hard feelings, though. Right?

*These amounts of win and awesome should be attributed to my character at all times. By even reading this text, you forfeit your soul to me.
Good luck, I know it's not easy. But if you avoid putting Loyal in, then it becomes significantly easier. Don't have to hunt him down to ask his opinion on anything.

Ah, yes. I remember a play that went like this... Only it was with a street-poor flower seller named Liza or somesuch.
Series, or oneshot?
Below the comic, it explains. 'Its a parody of My Fair Lady'. I saw it as a black and white movie. We watched it in Music class in middle school. I believe it originally premiered on Broadway as a play, as you said.
This'll be a series, perhaps. I haven't really decided yet. Do you guys think it would make a good series? Most of the jokes would probably center around me treating Fenris like he barely speaks English and spraying him with a water bottle when he messes up or something, or insulting him excessively and constantly like he isn't there. Maybe a musical number...
Edit: I probably won't make that a series. The jokes would wear thin after a while and I don't like the concept too much.

TDK: Nice "First" comic. XP Seriously though, it's lookin' good, and I'm looking forward to more.
Phil: That was fantastic. Something about the format for this one this worked beautifully with the material. The best Phil-drawn stuff so far, I think. If all your comics were like this from now on I would not complain. Not that I expect that. I'm just saying that if this style were a "real" comic, I'd buy it.

Well, Troy didn't really intend to come. Jay kind of pulled him there. See, what Troy was trying to explain when Jay pulled him out was how the King of Hearts works. The stats I listed when Jay used it actually are just unlabeled. They stand for Power/Capacity, Energy Cost, Utility, and Energy Projection. The King of Hearts isn't a real spell on its own. What it does is it allows Jay to directly deliver a spell/command/whathaveyou to a specific point in space and time. So, it has a lot of Utility, as it can act as a medium for many different things, very little Energy Projection, as the physical card must deliver it, a good Capacity to hold relatively powerful abilities, and a reasonable Energy Cost for such a powerful basic ability.
Also, I probably should have explained the men reference. It's a traditional Japanese war cry.
Phil: Dude, sweet! I don't think I've been in a drawn comic before...Comics 3-6 won't open for me, though. I'm surprised you kept that character in the comic after I got banned...
Edit: Got it. Heheheh. Nice. Its dramatic, what I say and Mike's apparently winning and stuff, working in the blood magic thing how you did, even though I never really fleshed it out (pun intended). Then the ending. Heh.

Just some constructive criticism, but part of it is probably that she looks too masculine. The nose could be made slightly less thin at the nostrils, or better shaded to give that effect. It will soften up her face. Also, more emphasis should be put on the top lip, or emphasis from the bottom lip could be removed. The lip is actually the biggie. Males have more emphasis on the bottom lip, while females are more even with it.
Its uncanny, Loyal.
I rather liked the picture. It could be better, but y'know, I'm not one to offer criticism.

Really, the comic con series has run a lot longer than I anticipated. It was supposed to be just a spin-off of my main comic (dream), but I guess there's more material there than I realized.
This brings up the issue of just what to do with all of my import characters. Really, I had them all planned out for a certain dynamic in the (main) series, but if I'm going to keep doing NPF, I can't exactly let them outnumber forumites. :sweatdrop

I propose a different compromise. Toshi from my comics wears a jacket, so anyone drawing him (God help you) can make it as leather and belty as you want.
Jay, however, wears silk shirts.
Edit: (^ also God help you) But, hey, if you can pull it off, it's great practice for how things move and flow.
Also: CJ, no manlove between the two. Please. :sweatdrop

Okay, so. As many of you know, I draw, or used to, rather. I stopped for about a year because of lack of motivation and artists block, respectively. Having to draw something for a class has sparked interest in drawing again after I recently decided to give up on it. I need something specific to work toward in order to actually do it, so does anyone want a picture drawn of them or something? Specifics, if you please.

I counter your pre-empt with a post-empt "no I'm not," and raise you this argument:
There's a difference between encouraging and saying, "Wow. Just wow. Not only did you draw photo-realistic characters based on 8-bit sprites, but you also were able to draw three vastly different materials, and an anthro cheetah all in the same picture. You are either incredibly dedicated to manlove, have way too much time on your hands, or in need of more worthy projects to suit your talents, hopefully that involve money and not my characters."
In short, if she can do all that for free just to prove me wrong, there are tons of people who would happily pay for her talents on projects that are not mine.

If someone could hook me up with the most current sprite sheets for Newb, Patrat, and Mauve, I could make a preliminary/joke startup comic.
As it stands, the NPF Sprites thread is disjointed, unorganized and I don't want to spend all that time sifting through obsolete sheets just to find that the current one isn't showing up for whatever reason.

Once in a while, every half year or so, somebody could make a zip file containing the most up-to-date spritesheets and post it in the spritesheet thread.
It means every comic maker has all sprites of NPF members available, and the official topic can be purged clean of posts.
Then the thread can be used to post ONLY updates and/or revisions to the spritesheet until the next gathering for the zip-file (if nessecary).
After the zip has been updated again the topic can be purged, save for the first post which contains the zip.
Good plan?

Considering the Melfice sprites are limited public property*, there is no need to credit me for the use of them.
An easier way is to just credit the people who made the base sprite.
Seeing as most NPF sprites are recolours or (usually) minor edits, you're pretty much covering it all with that.

Well, the whole issue with JAQ is that it's on another website without any credit, and someone seeing it there might assume it was all my work. His other qualm was that I hadn't told him I was using them. *shrug* I dunno. At NPF I think we've got an understanding when it comes to member comics and crediting and such. Just because we're not giving credit with every comic doesn't mean we're necessarily claiming it. It might just be JAQ that he had a problem with though, since it's such a long/big series. Anyways, you can also get him through email at frogman (at) ultima-java (dot) com.
And Melfice, I think I'm just gonna go through and make a record for every sprite, just to prevent something like this from ever happening again. Plus, if I make it comprehensive, then anyone can use it. The solution he and I eventually arrived at is an animated GIF containing credit for everyone's sprite that we can just embed into the Member Comic Archive website so it'd show up on every page. That way everyone would be covered.

For a bit of staging our Hero, Pyros, has found a suitable job to pay for his Santa debt, but alas, the Ninja debt collectors won't wait any longer. And so, on a rooftop only a few meters away from Pyros's destination, he makes his final stand against the three Chibi ninjasYou mean Cindy, right?
Also, the flipped sixth panel... something about it makes me chuckle. That and the needless reuse of the "badass ninja pose" sprite in the thirteenth panel. The whole thing's a cutting commentary on how the reuse of animation and holding on a single frame (or a single frame with a flapping mouth) makes some cartoons essentially sprite comics.
And now that I've explained the joke (even if it wasn't the intended joke) it'll never be funny again! Alright!

You mean Cindy, right?
Cendy's not in this one, as at the time of the comic, he's in NPF Avvy 2. He will be in a later comic though, but if I ever get around to doing another series of comics, there's gonna be another primary antagonist.

Well, originally they were gonna hold text there, to free the other comics from having words interfere with the action and blocking. Think of them as short bad ass conversations that you didn't hear, but were bad ass. On 13, notice how it looks like the lead (yet identical) ninja is pointing something out to Pyros?
But once I decided to screw the text, and saw how well the action lended itself to a narrative, I didn't know what to do with the friggin ninja/pyros shot. i had already compressed the layers down and everything.
So, I added the cheap glow of GraphicsGale (cuz photoshop costs money and the gimp makes no sense) and bam! Instant actiony cut! If it is indeed needless to you, to improve your comic viewing pleasure, mentally say to yourself: "Dun duh Dun!" when you see the Ninja Pose/Pyros Angry look.
I was expecting another comic to come after mine for pacing, but since I already finished all four I'll post them up shortly.

Sorry to drag tis issue up out of the grave it's been most proptly placed, but I would like to set this record straight.
I'm not an asshole who demands the most comprehensive credit. It's simply the case that I'm not a NPF user, yes I have an accout here and I log in occasionally, but I'm not a regular poster, I mean how many people acctually know who I am here? Flare is the one posting the sprites on NPF and so I am totally seperated from the sheet, except for the credit.
I want recognition for my work, is that really a bad thing?
I wasn't just picking on JAQ, the fact is I don't care who uses them. However I want to know, that they are being used at the very least. What I was saying to Rick wasn't just for my sake, ok fine, tere will be a credis page when the comic finishes. Untill that point tho people who come across that comic who aren't from NPF will think, wow this guy is a great spriter, when the sprite was made by someone else.
This is the internet we're talking about, not only NPFers go to that site.
Now, I offered to code a credit module to place at the bottom of the Comikaze page, so that it wouldn't acctually be a part of the image, but the credit for the sprites would go to the acctual sprite artists. The offer is still out there for me to do that, however it will be delayed now seeing as I'm currently working on Updating Ultima-Java Forums (http://www.ultima-java.com/forum) to carry some of the new features in PHPbb vr3.x.
The best way to get hold of me is via my e-mail, or by signing up on UJ, I'm always there everyday. PMing me here doesn't mean I'll get the message so the other two are probably best. I'm also on MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Xfire and Skype.
All I want is some kind of recognition when the comic is in the world wide arena, if it was on NPF forum or on UJ I wouldn't care in the slightest, but seeing as the comic site is a seperate entity from NPF it's self, anyone can go there and anyone can see it and anyone can give credit to anyone else.
Anyway... I just noticed I've started to repeat myself. So I'll leave it there.
I have nothing against Rick, I think he's a great guy and he is a great spriter. I also have noting against the comic, I've now read it all the way through and I think it's hillarious.i don;t want this "issue" to have caused any problems.
Melfice
03-31-2008, 12:06 PM
The fact is that most of us did what you did.
We edited sprites. Some more extensively than others, but they're still edits. (With some choice sprites that WERE actually originals)
And the comic archive is so closely attached to NPF that it really doesn't matter too much.
Besides, the NPF Comic Archive doesn't even show up on first page Google search, so I highly doubt anybody who isn't explicitly looking for it would look further than that.
In the end, it isn't so much singling you out as the bad guy, it's more a general "eh, don't see the point"-feeling from my side. I DO assume that's why you posted that, as an answer to my little comic. *snrk* If you want to call it that.
In the ultimate end... who are we to claim these sprites anyhow, edits or no?
Loyal
03-31-2008, 12:58 PM
Well, seeing as you're here, perhaps we can straighten a few things out.
Untill that point tho people who come across that comic who aren't from NPF will think, wow this guy is a great spriter, when the sprite was made by someone else.Let's be serious here:
1) The probability of someone coming across such a comic WITHOUT being introduced to the NPF (and all that implies) is virtually nil.
2) In the event that someone from the NPF introduces the comic to an outsider, the conversation will probably go like this (unless the person does not care, in which case there likely wouldn't be any issue at all:
-Joe Normal: Wow, great comic. Did you make all these?
-NPFer: No, just the comic itself, and these ones here *points to own sprites*. The rest were made by the other guys where I posted this.
Unless you're suggesting that those of us here would actually claim credit for fellow NPFer's work? I think I should feel insulted.
This is the internet we're talking about, not only NPFers go to that site. We're talking about this site here, (http://parkercomics.com/NPF/) right? Because again, the likelihood of someone going to that site without first knowing what the NPF is (and all that implies) is... low.
All I want is some kind of recognition when the comic is in the world wide arena, if it was on NPF forum or on UJ I wouldn't care in the slightest, but seeing as the comic site is a seperate entity from NPF it's self, anyone can go there and anyone can see it and anyone can give credit to anyone else.As Melfice said, while I doubt any of us deliberately want to begrudge you your credit, it's hard to see the point when we're still dealing with a level of net-wide recognition that boils down to "what happens in NPF stays in the NPF, because nobody else will care enough to listen (much less actively seek it out) anyway."
Andy, man. I know how you feel, someone tried to take credit for my sprites once (Not here, on deviantart) and it pissed me off to no end. Still, I just stepped in, told him off, and reported him.
Just think of it this way. If someone would take credit for sprites that weren't their's in the first place, they aren't going to not do so just because it says "Don't use without giving credit" or some such. A burglar wouldn't stop because the house had a sign that said "No stealing!". If something is against the rules, reminding people of that isn't going to help a whole lot, in 99% of cases they are already aware they are breaking the rules.
Melfice
03-31-2008, 02:36 PM
But let's turn that even further up.
At what point did WE ask the creators of the base-sprites that we could use them and pass them as our own?
Yes, we're crediting the owners, but that makes no difference.
We're using somebody elses creations for our own uses without actually asking permission.
Its not like we're using them for profit. Falls under Fair Use, does it not?
RickZarber
03-31-2008, 06:31 PM
First off, I should say that I never meant to make this into a whole big thing by bringing it up over here, and certainly I didn't mean to make Andy out to be the villain. While Andy is adamant, he's never been unreasonable in his request, and we worked together to find a mutually agreeable solution for the NPF Archive.
I still intend to create a sort of rolling or maybe animated credit thing for all the sprites ever that we can stick down at the bottom of the site so that it'll appear on every page (which, I think, should solve the problem). It's just a matter of finding the time to make it.
Frogman
03-31-2008, 07:01 PM
Wrote something else here originally... pleading my case, but theres no point really. I'm not a bad guy, I'm not unreasonable. All I want is fair due.
Whats happened has happened, whats been said has been said and cannot be unsaid. I'm glad that we can come to an agreement on the scrolling credit. As I said my offer to do that for you is still out there. Chat more in private.
Another thing which has come to mind, is that I will make a sprites thread on NPF, and there I will place a selection of my sprites there. Should anyone want me to make or edit sprrites for them I'm glad to do it. That said, who can blame me for wanting to be credited for the effort I put into making those sprites?
If that is how you feel, then hell I may aswell just use any sprites or artworks of yours that are derivitive, and use them as I please. However I see myself getting opposition from that too. The fact stands that here, I'm always going to be wrong, because I am an outsider.

Not to split hairs or anything, but I think we've all pretty much figured out that the traitor in JAQ is Frogman. So, in all actuality, Rick is making him out to be the bad guy.
Also, I'd like to point out, that this whole sprite-ownership issue wouldn't be an issue if we were all just writing our comics. Can't we just do that? It's a much more efficient way of doing it and we wouldn't have to give credit to the people whose sprites we use.
I mean, Rick hasn't made a new comic in a while but in that amount of time countless people have written countless "comics" that were, frankly, too long and that no one read.
Quantity, people, over quality.
And, it's not like I'm completely against, Rick. He's contributed plenty with his "comics." He pointed out that Frogman is the badguy and that's a service to us all.
As a father of three, I rely completely, and singularily on what Microsoft tells me I should talk like around my children.

Hey Ross, where do you come off bad mouthing me?
Those are some pretty harsh and ill chosen word there. Traitor? How the hell am I a traitor? Wouldn't I acctually have to be on side with the comic in the first place to have stabbed them in the back?
Pointing out that I am a bad guy is a service to you all? Who the hell do you think you are?
Demon, that did seem a little harsh. Andy just wants credit for his work, and Rick has agreed to give it.
Really, I don't think we want to start writing stories instead of making comics. What would be the point of making sprites, then? I'm not terribly sure what you are implying, as you seem to contradict yourself a couple times. What exactly is the point of your last statement?
Anyway; I think the argument is done, we should all just walk away before any more feelings are hurt.
Edit:...Should I just stay out of this?
