Alright, to prove I'm not dead, expect a new art from me sometime tomorrow. First I need to make sure our wireless printer connection to the main computer's been fixed (its got a scanner built into it and it means I don't end up having to drag out the older scanner's software again).

EDIT: Long story short, it isn't. Hopefully my mom can figure out how to get it set up again soon, but otherwise, looks like I won't be able to scan anything until after I get settled in college (considering it's a tech school, I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T have scanners).

As for the art, imagine a pic of Thadius sitting on a gargoyle making fun of Mac-assassin going "splat" on the ground. You won't be missing much.

While I'm here, yeah, I've been able to recover or recreate most of my sprite resources that have been used so far. Still missing a ton of stuff I DIDN'T use, but I figure things are complicated enough as it is in my 8-bot comics. I could fudge my way through the end of the comic con arc with a bunch of work splicing the backgrounds together from my posted comics, but it's frankly at the bottom of my to-do list at this point, mostly because it's a pain in the ass. I've got a bunch of scripts written, too, so when the urge strikes, I'll be prepared. I just have more important and pressing things to take care of.

And no, I'm not going to crap out and do things in EGA color. I just did that because Flare had hers in EGA. I know it's EGA because the CGA palettes don't contain any combination of green and white, unless they used the text-to-pics trick, but if I recall correctly, that screenshot is from Might and Magic 1, which while it had EGA color, had really crappy graphics.

Yeah, Thadius, I'm from Ultima-Java, a comic I haven't updated in over 9 months because I moved house and got married (and yet strangely have a nice active little community). I've been away from NPF for a long time and now that I'm drawing again I thought I'd wander through this place for some humor and inspiration.

It was sheer coincidence. Andy was so crest fallen when he realized the layouts were the same, but its doesn't matter in the end, as long as its functional.

A tad of pickiness: two things. First, your sprite's shoulder guards look incredibly flat and should have some highlights and lowlights, if my guess is correct that they're supposed to be metal. You can easily pull those from the rest of your sprite. White from the eyes and a darker gray from the highlights on your black bits should work.

Second, I notice your bubbles have white outlines. I assume you're using some sort of layered image program. Assuming it's Paint.NET, all you need to do to fix that up is to draw them in a transparent layer and be done with it. GIMP, I'd have to play with a bit to see if it's the same, because if it's like Photoshop with alpha channels, I'm in trouble there. :sweatdrop

Point being, there are much better ways of doing bubbles than drawing on white and then trying to delete it cleanly. I'd also nitpick the tails, but I see you're already trying to minimize using them, so I'm guessing it's for speed purposes and my method involves drawing the white of the tail over the edge of the bubble in another layer and then drawing the outlines over that in yet another one. Lots of use of the line/curve tool in that.

Uh, that new costume of Thad's is the old sprite's head on an Edgar recolour. There's highlights already in there. Although yeah, it might be good to increase the contrast between the two shoulder pad colours.

Easier to make a female clone than a male one. First because you can just double the X chromosome, but also because the only thing to determine male from female on the Y chromosome is a single gene on the literal very tip. If that gets knocked off, instant female.

Well, I wanted to be clear it was an aside to my actual story. I do plan on getting back to that eventually. Just not at the moment.

Also, doing this comic did some extra good. When I started doing up my latest sprite sheet to standardize the lighting to coming from above instead of above and from the left, I apparently neglected to do it for most of the positions. I'll get the fixed version up once I double check to make sure I didn't miss any.

I may wait until I have the same done for Troy and Toshi if nobody plans on using my sprites in the immediate future.

Nitpick train is coming into the station. I am so sorry, but it's driving me nuts and I have to say it.

Using Eta as H is a misnomer, as it's actually currently the long E sound, and even when it did stand for H, it only stood for an H. The Greek alphabet uses letters for all of its diphthongs without combining them and currently has no letter for H, with it just being understood or marked with a ' for rough aspiration and ` for soft aspiration.

I know this is a bit obscure, but the letter you really wanted to use given modern Greek is Sho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sho_%28letter%29).

Hehe! :D Actually, he was in a bad situation to start with. The pic I modded was him against Oak, with Oak packing five Pokemon. I was originally going to just copy/paste his empty Pokeball slots over Oak's team, but then a couple ideas collided in my head, one of them being, "Wait, defenseless? Blue Psychic? Hello?" and the other being, "Wow, in grayscale, Blue looks a lot like Bit," who is the main protagonist in a Game Boy-style game I've been cooking up sprites for (I posted a fake screen in the sketch thread). It wasn't really an intentional resemblance, but they have similar clothing just by merit of wearing what I wear because I'm familiar with the dimensions of it and it's easy to identify visually.

At any rate, Bit's game has 5 attack elements based on computer issues which roughly translate to fire, water, lightning, earth, and darkness. At one point, I had the idea to represent them similarly to black and white magic balls in the menus, and, well, that's pretty much what led me to put those in place of the Pokeballs.

Actually, I was all ready to do the entire thing in normal 2-bit grayscale like Bit's game and what a real Game Boy game would look like, but then I realized that the screen was really from either Red or Blue on a GBC on the monochrome palette, which gave the Pokeball graphics an extra gray to work with. It's been a long time since I partied on Melfice's head, though to be fair, he was often asleep of unconscious when we did it.

Anywho to reach a conclusion on the whole Nikose clone thing. In 2023, I go back in time to 1972. My DNA will be extracted by a government agency and after a few years of experimentation, they finally create a new being. That child that is born and is named, Nikose. Or so I'm told :P

Nikose, and well everyone else: Actually, Andy Frogman is a latent Astramancer. Because the comics that we're currently running is the characters origin stories, you won;t get to see it for a while. But on the forum you can see that the characters subclass is set to Astramancer. So yeah lightning majick abounds :p

Yeah I think you're right though, We did discuss this, and although the current incarnation/ design of the character is relevantly new, it did exist before we met. Which was 2004 right? I think I came up with this character design (purple on black), just before I went to Slightly Out of Order, when I was in that group that was built on DA. Previous to that he had a green based costume, and that I'd been drawing since... hmmm probably around the same time, near 1992-3ish. Yeah I would have been 7/8 then sounds about right. Thats when I started spriting on my OLD PC which had delux paint 2 :p Awesome times :)

Oh and we live in different countries, so yeah. They both like purple, they both have electric attacks, but aside from that they are very different characters.

EDIT: I was talking to Flare about this on UJ, and It hough I may as well post it here too... it's all pertinent to the topic at hand.

I created Andy as a sprited character back in 1992/3ish, originally though he was a Mortal Kombat style ninja, with a few slight costume changes, and electric attacks more akin to Blanca from Street Fighter. He then developed into a a knight of sorts with heavy armour by 1995 and his main weapon was a mace that had lightning magic in it. When Final Fantasy 7 came out the mace was switched with a sword and the armour made a bit smaller. To combat the idea that Andy ios a Cloud clone, even though I was given the idea by cloud to have a sword originally it wasn't a Great Blade. There were many variations but by the time I saw Dragon Ball Z for the first time the armour was almost completely gone, with simply green t-shirt and brown cargo pants. At the time everyone was into DBZ and so the character got a few upgrades, being red sweat bands and head band, and the hair was growing gradually over time. It was during this that Andy, using his stupidly over powered DBZ style strength, that he was able to use the stupidly large swords, and actually since then the swords have been getting smaller. After the DBZ craze which which ended for me in 2001, I redesigned the character going back to his roots in a fantasy setting and adding silver armour on top of black body suit similar to that of the sayians crossed with the knights plate armour from before, once again though the armour disappeared and the plain black needed an off set colour, I'd always liked purple but never really used it, except for another ninja from the original Mortal Kombat sprites that I made. So I added purple, and worked with several designs before concluding with the one most common in 2003. At this point everything was sprite based again, and because of the use of the Final Fantasy 1-5 sprites the swords were often sprited the size of the character. Buster swords at this juncture were never my intentions, but they stuck. Since then, once again the swords have been getting increasingly smaller, with the exception of a few.

Yeah I'm using PAINT.net, I'm to poor to afford Illustrator right now. That was my forgetfulness about the bubbles Mac had told me about the size when i was doing the test stripe and all, and I totally forgot about that. That was my silliness for forgetting lol.

I was going to add Mac asking how Jay saw him outside the panel and Jay saying he'd be a piss-poor psychic if he couldn't, but I decided to cap myself at 100 frames and it wouldn't have worked much better, anyway, as evidenced by the resultant product. Actually, the reason I decided against it was because of how short my loop was, so it would only have seemed especially repetitive.

Jay sees a lot of odd stuff. I haven't gotten to it yet, but not only does he see outside the panels, he also sees behind them, which is where all of the spirit world stuff takes place that I had planned for him. I pretty much planned on abusing alpha from the beginning and never got around to it. Yet. Although this semester doesn't look good for my non-school productivity.

I actually was inspired to add a rapier fencing saber both to my Blue sheet.

Really, Jay is a bit of an amalgamation of myself and several of my other characters, and I just created another couple game ideas recently, one of which includes a mage who uses fencing swords, so it's not entirely inappropriate to incorporate that. I may also toss in a spear, since I have yet ANOTHER character who uses short spears (like, they're one-handed) because I really liked a picture I found and designed the character around it. On the other hand, I really don't think I can bring the design through adequately due to scale, and two weapons is more than enough with the hand-to-hand sprites I already have for him, so I'll probably skip that.

He always did. Or to be more specific, he always did when unmasked. Remember that avatar he used to have with one eye glowing blue and one eye glowing green? That's why.

Both. Pretty sure with the helmet on, they're both black, but with it off, one is green and the other is dark purple, which is just left over from Mac using his own sheet to produce Thad's un-helmeted head, which in turn may be a hazard of the particular Sabin sheet he grabbed (the original has dark blue eyes in all I've seen).

I'm hoping to get the first comic put up some time in the next week, a fact I am mentioning to give myself a deadline.

In order to get all of the work done, I'll have to stick to it. The key is not letting inexperience chain me down I suppose and, of course, I hope you'll like the final creation.

I'm intrigued by the fact that I am a zombie, despite the fact that for the life of me, I cannot recall a single time I was ever killed in a comic or even a Yaplet conversation.

Hmmm... Maybe I represent the spirit of Yaplet. XD

Edit again: I was hoping to have something done for Halloween, but I may not have the time to put it together. Finally got what seems like a working amount of resources to finish my Comic Con arc. I just need to get the time to throw it all together.

I dunno. A zombie dragon is bigger and generally would be able to swallow one whole. It might actually be survivable, even escapable, if zombies' digestive systems don't actually work anymore, as gross as it would be.

I always figured if you got swallowed whole by a zombie it would be a slow and agonizing zombiefication process. Due to the digestive system eating you alive slowly and zombifying you at the same time. Not a way I'd like to go.

By the way, if it's not readily apparent, my comic involves Brian. Remember that the script is WAY old (the last one I managed was almost a year ago) with only minor tweaks and the sprite was thrown together with only a vague recollection of how I had it originally before the crash. Actually, I think I originally had his hair spikier, but it's not at the moment.

At any rate, turning real people into recognizable sprites sucks and I just wanted to be clear who it was supposed to be.
