Why would you skip to the end of Thriller?! It's freaking Thriller, man!
Wanted to prove a point, watched it in full later. :D
Besides, life is busy for me now. Part of it is my own fault (gave my first contribution to Abandonia, did two comics no one seemed to notice) and some isn't (still am hammering out details on my internship, wasted the whole week and ruined a new pair of jeans raking wet leaves, and have actual homework besides). Then I somehow find myself on NPF, to boot. :gonk:

Hey so Thriller was awesome right? 13 comics in 7 days (or was it 8 I am none too sure). I was able to experiment with new ideas and made NPFers dance to the tune of the late Michael Jackson. Fun times for all.
Sadly, my computer has given up. It is now on life support and soon will be dead and with me inbetween jobs, getting a new computer is gonna be tricky. So call this a temporary farewell from NPF comics, until, like the phoenix, I rise again.

Tomorrow is D-Day!
EDIT: Tomorrow is today!
A bit of a ripoff of Keychain of Creation (http://keychain.patternspider.net/) I have to admit.
And yes, the end is blatant whoring for protagonists and people who might like a cameo role. The main group will be pretty small - probably four or five people in total and the first section will be in a spot where conveniently I don't have to do crowds, so cameos may have to wait a while.

If you're whoring, I'm buying... wait... no, I'll stick with that. There's no better way to start an adventure than tricking people into helping you. Kinda wondering what Serious Slime was doing there, but whatever.

Whoa, krogo, no need to get violent through text. Let's try to channel that energy into something more productive. (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=6113) Like, say, getting violent through sequential images accompanying text.
I really need to quit hitting "Post" when I've only written half of what I meant to. The other half is that the newspaper is a fine use of silly text surrounding a newspaper ad. I bet there's a trope about that. "King of Fairy Town" indeed.

Just the same, if I did, I totally would! Because, you know, Arhra's funny and I liked his comic.

I look forward to seeing this advance.
Not asking to be included, because Blue has a lot of detail to worry about, and depending on whether you based it on 8-bit or 16-bit, you'd have to worry about long sleeves and a bullet necklace, and then the open shirt, and the belt, and yeah. I mean, you could, if you're feeling masochistic, but at this point, Blue doesn't even have all that much to offer (not that he'd be lured by material wealth, anyway). Just some specialized psychokinetic powers (which aren't even really canon) and a swarm of bees (which I'm leaning toward calling canon), really, unless you really need a guy who's an empath and sees auras.
Edit: You know, reading this after a break, it totally comes off as a lame, "no, seriously, don't include me, wink, wink," thing, which wasn't my intention. :sweatdrop

Yeah, I keep forgetting everyone keeps on getting new sprites. Out of the older versions, Melfice is easily the most complex in sprite form. Now, it's up there, but Thad's are pretty complicted, too, and so are several others, with Blue actually being pretty simplistic.
My point was really that Blue has a lot of small details that would be difficult for the style more than anything concerning the basic design. He's really the only one who wears street clothes. Well, traditional Mac does, and so does Shyria, but Shyria has other details to worry about.

No, but I'm probably the most anal, considering I made my sheet from the ground up. :p
Can't help it, I'm proud of my work.
Edit: And maybe pretentious. Looking at Ahrha's design, I don't think I'm giving other people enough credit. >_>
Still, everyone else tossed onto the pile, so Ahrha's got enough to work with. If Blue gets included, it'll be a pleasant surprise, but the only other person to even touch my sprite has been Mac and I really don't expect everyone to fall over themselves to toss it in.

Holy crap Loyal posted something.
Thadius
11-11-2009, 03:15 AM
...Loyal has posted a masterwork. Clearly, he knew that the mere act of him posting would send my mind back to its normal home these days, which is beyond all that you consider sane and normal. So this epic showdown is even more epic when you consider that he'd have to have hunted me down, past things that are best left undescribed.
I only have three tiny things that I noted were wrong in this picture. One, my somewhat-new cape, which has been exposed quite a bit, is still missing. I long for the day when the cape finally registers with you people.
Two, I'm fairly certain that A) I'm not using my old sword anymore, and B) the two swords I DO use don't glow. Especially not purple.
Three, when the hell did Loyal pick up another sword?! I'm fairly certain I'm the only dual-wielder on this board!
But other than those minor things, this is a masterwork. Now pardon me while I return to being insane. It's required, after all. Loyal posted something, so I have to rework my concept of reality.

I mean, not that Troy or Toshi are in any way analogs of myself (they're based on other people), but if anyone is particularly bad about dragging in important non-forumite characters, it's me. I've had to check myself on my cast to justify posting it in the member comics thread.

So my question to you so that my brain can settle is this: Are you that person? If so, neat. If not, man you two draw a lot alike.....or use Paint alot alike....or something.
Like I said when I put up the first one, the art style's a blatant ripoff of Keychain. I decided a stick comic would be simple enough for me to pull off and also a style like Keychain's is a lot more visually interesting than one like Order of the Stick's.
Unfortunately there's limits to the variation possible. Still got a head on a (rectangular with delusions of grandeur) body in roughly 3/4 perspective and the thick lines work well for blending the stick limbs into the body. I did try to differentiate it a little - mainly with the heads and I ended up using larger bodies but yeah, there's still a strong resemblence.
I'm also using the same program - Inkscape Illustrator - since it's freeware vector graphic software. It's nice being able to just select and tug lines. I was originally expecting to use GIMP more but I've actually ended up doing everything in Inkscape except for the final tweaks to produce a PNG image.
Relatedly, sticking the interview site in a forest was an intentional little nod at Keychain.
Okay, well that makes sense then. I really haven't ventured into these threads much so I must have missed where you said that earlier.

Rereading the last few posts, I wonder if this thread somehow subconsciously influenced my newest comic.

Well, I actually started this months ago as a topical joke where Thad had mentioned his coffee was the consistency of tar. And then never got around to doing anything but the backgrounds, tables, and one blue mug, with no notes for myself on the script.
I seem to recall that the joke was originally going to be Blue eating the coffee as a drumstick off the spoon he stirred it with, but I think this works much better in terms of anything I could have done with that joke in the pacing of 6 panels.
And, yes, the RGB triplet is what I actually used for Mac's drink. XD

Actually, no. This stems from me posting my last comic on Twitter for him. He really isn't coming back for his own reasons and hasn't looked at the forums since leaving. At all, for any reason. He's given me permission to use his sprites one last time to write him out of my storyline and I'm working with him on the script for that one. After that, he wants his sprites retired.

None, because people were generous and counted the leaves in my embarrassment.
Rather, I spent the entire day drawing utter shock from everyone who saw me for wearing orange. I think it also somewhat disturbed a couple of my teachers, because they asked about it. Apparently, Protestants wear orange and the guy who proposed it also tossed in some recipes for Catholic babies.

I've been trying a little to get into these comics. But it's not easy for a late comer. Is there some kind of sleeve notes or reader's guide? There's a partial archive by author and sometimes by series here. (http://parkercomics.com/NPF/) It has Just Another Quest and Finding Meister. Other than that... well, some of the more egotistical people here (me) could link you to everything we've ever done. Beyond that, you just have to suck it up, go back fifty pages, and power through the broken links and disjointed comics.
Edit:
But but I want to be a part of the communiteeee.I was under the impression that most of the community hates this thread, or at least avoids it.

Well, to sum it up, IQ:
Rick: JAQ is best viewed from an archive.
Mac: most of his themed asides are all within a few posts of each other, often in edits, and his newest line has just begun
phil_: can get you his own stuff, as he says (it's a good policy, actually)
Thad: had a few one-shots until recently
blue: mine can probably be safely ignored, because it's half one-shots and they're few and far between
Ahrha: all recent from what I know
To be honest, I never went through the whole thread, myself.

If you want be part of the community, as in make comic's. It's easy to do.
Get a graphic program. I suggest either Paint.net or the GIMP though if you can acquire it, Paint Shop Pro 9 is awesome.
Choose your sprite to alter (FF6 is highly recommended)
Start alterations. If stuck, you can always ask one of the other comicer for advice.
When done sheets. start making simple comics.
And I'm really bad at that kinda thing too.

That being said, Mac is doing a good job. Oh wait, that means it's my turn now. Just a moment...

At least some good came out of coffee for once!
On the other side, I've always enjoyed your comics Thad, I like the humour!

....How do I keep missing updates on these?
Thad-- Hmmm. Flarecobra in dwarf fortress. If the fort doesn't have a moat filled with flames (alternately, the entire outer wall is made of fire), you're doing something wrong. XD I'm interested to see where this is going.
Mac-- Is it wrong that I now read all of Mecha Mac's line in a Terminator voice? :D Nice job!

No I'm just sayin' it's spelled Murphy and not Murphey, that's all.

Or a moat filled with lava. And a pet Spirit of Fire. :P

Or maybe just carp.
Flarecobra

But Carp have nothing to do with fire at all.
Thadius
05-11-2010, 07:41 PM
We can fix that. I could give them [LAVAIMMUNE] tags and make a lava moat with Carp in them. Note: I do not actually suggest trying this yourself as it will result in Fun when flaming Zombie Carp show up in evil biomes under your magma forges and burn everything down from the inside out.
Also, so sorry for the delays. Computer issues abounded but hopefully they have been resolved. Comic is in the making and sadly this one won't feature Flare. It will feature the beginning of Blue's torment though, so it'll have that going for it.

Eh, never mind. It appears carp are no longer as demonic as they used to be (http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Carp).
Thadius

Zombie and skeletal Carp will still walk around freely on land, requiring no water to live, and should a dwarf near, they will tear out bit after meaty bit. What I was proposing was something so horrible the people of the Bay12 forums would smite me for it if it worked.
In fact...
Loyal, go take this idea to them and wave it around somewhere, then tell us their reactions to it, along with the results of their inevitable experiments.
Don't lie, I know you have an account there.

If I do show up in DwarfFort, I want to be either setting things on fire or pissing off elves. Preferably both, but eh.
Loyal

Things do not get set on fire by merely walking into lava. FIREIMMUNE certainly does not bestow that property. It's mostly a matter of relative temperature between the would-be-immolated creature or object and its surrounding environment. I imagine FIREIMMUNE prevents this immolation first and foremost, though I have no idea how it affects a creature's ability to survive in excess heat.

Alright once I've skimmed through the comics and studied you guy's a bit. I should have my starting world.

The Mac-verse is basically any of my story based comics.
Things like my Adventures with Thad all revolve in my own little world. This is my Earth 616 (Marvel)
Any of my one shots are more grounded in reality. Including the severe injury comics and would be the one I Heavily suggest you use ;)

In my case, character development is incestuously interbred with Avvy.
Abandon all hope!
Well, that's always been the case I guess. The comics thread is the manifestation of forces outside the comics thread.

I see whatcha all did there.
Heh heh, as for me, all projects are on hiatus until I am not having to spend all waking moments of my life packing things into boxes and then lifting those boxes. (We have to have the house completely empty by June 1st, so hopefully I'll have one up by at least the middle of that month.)

Also, I just skimmed through the past year's comics and realized something: I've never been in a Philbo comic! :ohdear:
Phil, if you hook me up I will somehow make the time to fast-track a JAQ to be done before June 1st.

EDIT: Thanks for watching, guys! I'll be back tomorrow night to (hopefully) finish the comic.
Mac: Nice FX work. I'm a little angry you did the red/staring panel better than I did. But then I remember that I had to make those action lines for you, and I feel better. :P
