"Cover Those Slits!" Part 3 is up now. Do you think I'm taking a risk by mixing 8-bit (Thaumaturge, Ceciliantas, and Allannah) with 16-bit (everything else)?
Dragonsbane
01-03-2005, 10:38 AM
Meh, I take the same risk all the time...just read some of my later comics on SOoO.
Speaking of which, paladins of either gender are really, really bad at cybersex...I mean, from what I've heard. *sweatdrop*
Those photos must never be discovered, ever! I can only pray she didn't take screenshots...

*laughing* Very good indeed, AB! :D
*snigger* You could say that I'm Nilking the situation... :D
And DB... Tut tut, you really should be more careful next time! Never let them get photos! :)

Time to go sprite hunting! I plan to make some Nilk-based monsters that'll reveal themselves all too soon.

hmmm, it would appear that the background color has changed, so you can now see what used to be invisitext.

You're not missing anything with the penguin. This latest one is more of a throw-away episode if anything.

AB: Aaah! It's that... C... Guy!
Totsu: Heheheh, heheh, heh... Eeewwww. There's an ending I wasn't expecting. o_O
WA:

#2) Poor Brian! *totabbly oblivious to the trial*
AB: "hahahahahahahaha!!11eleventeen1" :D
Thaum: Heh, very nice, much funnies. ^^

SAAM: Ah, the wonders of the AOL translator, eh? :D
And now to play the "Wait For A New Comic" game...

I probably won't make another comic until I hit the states. My date of leaving the desert is the 9th, this coming Sunday. Once I've rested and learned some things about Photoshop, I'll be back, doing three different comic storylines, hopefully twice or three times every week. Mwa ha ha ha! Flarecobra has given me permission to date her! I wonder what that will be like? Time to send all my stuff over yahoo! email to my personal computer.
Well, maybe I'll make one more comic before I go home.
To Chicago: You know how magical girls are. Sometimes they just detonate at random when a date is going bad.

Perhaps it's an aknolagement to the "Cheshire Penguin" comic?

The penguin is there for no reason at all, with no reference or continuation from anything whatsoever.

Dragonsbane
01-06-2005, 02:01 PM
*sigh* my laziness, as always, works against me...
the Talos Blade is supposed to be red-orange, I just wasn't descriptive enough when Stephanos made the uber-cool FF6 sprites of me, and a virus cut me off from anything I could use to recolor. No need to go back and change anything, I'll just post an updated version when I get home.
On a brighter note, Chicago and AB's most recent comics are genius, pure genius. :D

awesome jad!
if steve irwin tries that with me, he will be very sorry.
for reasons that are obvious if you are aware that i am half alaspinian minidrag, and you know what that is.
I also know a variety of spells which might be fun to use on him, such as four levels of clear (clear, cleara, clearaga, clearaja) which is a very fun electrocution type of spell.

SAAM: LOL... A spin-off of Minesweeper. Excellent. :D
Squishy: Hmm. Well I suppose it's, y`know, funny. I dunno. Eh?
Jad: Oi! Discussion is over here!
Newb: Eh... Some proper spelling and grammar would be nice. Also, it's usually better to indicate who's talking. Like, "THAUM: Crud, you're right DB," or something. I'm interested in what's gonna happen next, though.
Squishy: Heh... Ok, I laughed a bit. But y`know, I wouldn't want any Steve Irwin bashing happening from, y`know, stuff.
Those Steve Irwin sprite are excellent, though. :D
Bailey
01-07-2005, 07:51 PM
that is what happens next
and the spelling and gramatical errors are there because no one is paying me for this.
if i were getting money, i would check it for that stuff, but its for generalized enjoyment, which means mine too, and its more fun to make it like this
thus the first two episodes of "baby forumites" were posted.
i'm gonna sorta add people as i think of them, so if you want in, and you know how you could be introduced, send it to me.
i got the idea for this all from two things, thaums new year comic, and the large number of "baby ____" cartoons
Dragonsbane

Those Steve Irwin sprite are excellent, though. :D
They are indeed good sprites. I wouldn't really call it bashing; the character is the star and I find it very funny. Truly, Irwin is a bit of a git at times. Believe it or not, people, I actually like Steve Irwin, but not for his TV shows. I like him because he uses all the money he makes for expanding his zoo to take more animals that need homes.
Still, very good, JAD ^^
Not to mention all of the other comics here - I especially liked CJ's comic ^^

don't worry, it will not be about calvinball, it was just a reference to tb's extraordinary skill at writing endings.
in any case, several calvinballers know nothing about calvinball, and it hasn't stopped them yet.
the main story will be several of the forumites eventually get together, and try to find why they are all babies while thaum and db try to change the machine to turn them back.

Well, I've only got the base overworld w/staff(no expression) and a few rows of battle for Keiko anymore. Most of them were deleted. In addition to that, there's the fact that using the Keiko sprites was a decision based on the situation about three months in the past, but...sure, I'll put up what I have, DB. Yay cyber-geomancers!
Jada, any suggestions for your sprites? I know I'm going to be using both human and demiangel forms, but I'd like your input here.

SAAM, while I'm slightly disappointed that you didn't make me a Tyrannosaurus Rex, or even a bespectacled Pterodactyl, I am still quite happy with the results of the comic.
You captured my "essence" perfectly; put in that situation, that's exactly what I'd say. Not to mention that I look rather dashing in a stetson.
I expect to see more of these. Perhaps you could make it interactive? Like, include a "Click here to watch CroTeam almost ban himself again!" button or make me say some hilarious catch phrases ("I'll turn ya inta a real star, Mac!" or "Let's ham it up in the Big Time, busta!") if you roll your mouse over my stomach. That would be so awesome.

I was expecting something a bit more along the lines of "The Spanish Inquisition" skit when this comic was first mentioned, but that was still cool
slightly aboveaverage man
01-13-2005, 12:07 PM
Well, I usually create my Slightly above average sticks using one of three things:
1: pictures from the Camwhore threads, which I use to model my stick after the fleshy beings that actually exist. Examples: Osterbaum, Krylo, Totsumanu, Jadarendir, etc.
2: Avatars, and sprite creations which were pre-made, adapted to Stick Form. Examples: QQ, SAAM, Kardin, Cheshire Thief, Shiney, etc.
and 3: Artist conception. when a person has no Avatar, or one which is impossible to turn humanoid, I use my conception of what their Forumite Character may look like. Example: High on Pawns, (currently RoyalSpork) Lazy Man, Etc.
Crodevillian Team
01-13-2005, 02:56 PM
So if I post a picture of a bespectacled Pterodactyl in the Camwhore thread and say it's me, will that mean that the next comic featuring the Triforce of Terror (because there will be one...) will make my dreams come true?
Either way, I'm pleased with the outcome, and commend you on your artistic talent. Well... comedic, at least.
slightly aboveaverage man
01-13-2005, 03:31 PM
Doubtful, as the Pterodactyl is extinct. (But then again, so is the Vaudevillian) I try not to change my pre-created characters too much, except in extreme siduations such as Kardin's Tail, SAAM's character, and the Osternator/SAAB/Lord Chestershire Bandit.
And yes, you and Shiney will be in the next one.

If you still have the pre-JPEG version of your sprite comic, you can save it as a .GIF file with minimal color distortion. To do so (on MS Paint) hit "Select All" and then "Cut" out the whole comic. Then, hit "Save As..." and save it as a .GIF with whatever name you want. A message should pop up, click "Yes." Then, "Paste" the comic back, and hit "Save." The comic should be saved as a low-space .GIF with little to no distortion.
On-topic: keep it up, you guys! The comics are very funny!

Alternatively to Mr. V's suggestion, you can host your comic (whatever the file type, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp or .png) on ImageShack (www.imageshack.us). After you've uploaded your comic, you can either paste the URL with the [img] tags on it straight into the post like this, or you might like to poat the thumbnail URL code straight into the post instead.
Either way is fine, and this should work well for you.

Since I have so many other things I'd really like to do (anime, real movies, my Emblem Crusade story, keeping up with RPGs, hentai dating simulations, cleaning up my room, and planning my new series of sprites for AB), I've dumbed down my comic schedule to making updates to my current stories only two times a week. Monday and Thursday. This insures that I have at least three days to complete the updates if I can't muster the time, or the funny for that story. BRBD and CTS! will be done tomorrow definitely. (sighs sorrowfully) The final chapter of AB's date with CelesJessa. Hopefully I'll come up with an idea so I can use her again. Can someone explain to me the sudden fall of image quality in my comics. I used to be able to see every word just fine, but when I looked at them tonight, the words were all blury and some were unreadable. Do I have too many images on Imageshack? Here's the reason: screen and image resolution.
If you are seeing the comic it its ImageShack window after clicking on the thumbnail link, then place your mouse over the image when it's fully loaded, and click ONCE with the left mouse button.
Rightfully, it should flick onto full size.

EDIT: Yes, the joke in the comic is true. When I first played Megaman X, I thought that Zero was a girl, much like a lot of other people thought that Zero was a girl, and I considered her my favorite female character until I was informed that he most certainly was not female. But I haven't updated in a while...sorry.
But if you like that I do update so much, will you go on a Bizarre Reality Blind Date with Armored Bishoujo? C'mon, you saw the date with CelesJessa. There was barely any lewd jokes. In fact, I'm ashamed to say that most of the jokes revolved around CelesJessa's "unique" MagiTek Armor piloting skills.
Eh, well, I still respect ya even if you don't want to. Besides, two other girls already said yes and I only have an idea about how to do them...uhhh, their comics, not them specifically. Flarecobra and BlackMageGirl!, woo hoo! A tomboyish kickass marine and a magically proficient beauty with a love of chocolate! How can Armored Bishoujo handle these two? Well, you'll see...by Monday, I hope, when I plan to start updating again.
I've been pulling this week into a sprite editing practice session, since I finally got off my ass to do some projects, and those are:
- Armored Bishoujo's "Goddess Assimilation": A full sprite sheet of a new edit to Armored Bishoujo. I'll give you a hint about what she becomes. The hint is "meow, meow, baby!" Okay, the hint was too obvious but she looks awesome, even as a rough draft!
- Ari/Batgirl Sprite Sheet: Sorry, Druid, but I think I may resort to spriting the body and logo in the FF VI style, since I'm so strung on that style. Don't worry, though, 'cause I'll host your sprite along with the ones I make in case someone wants to make other sprites of her. The way I imagine her sprite is a lot like Ren's, when I think about it. I may do a full sprite sheet of her, too. Can't have enough practice.
- CelesJessa's MagiTek Armor: Just a recoloring job, really. I'll paint the armor lime green and edit CelesJessa into the armor to create a supplemental sprite sheet for her. It'll pretty much make CelesJessa the predominant green warrior to QueenQeeko's blue...who really likes red...bleh.
- Weapon Sprites: Armored Bishoujo's "Goddess Assimilation" weapon, the Grammatron Edge, is a large and heavy dual blade weapon of horrible, horrible violent destruction, and I'm looking forward to a good turn out of this weapon. This section will also include a combat stance and maybe even attack movement sprites with Armored Bishoujo, but I'm getting way ahead of myself.
Yeesh, that's a lot of work when I think about it so don't hate me if I don't make comics on Monday, but I'm sure I'll get around to it. Thanks for your patience.

Ooo! I'll go out with you! Unless you're only accepting girls, in which case, maybe i'll take YOU on one. It could make a great Sunday comic if i'm not working on sunday that week (I swear, my boss hates me or i'd have at least twelve updates by now).
Speaking of which, i'm working for the next three days in a row so it may be a while before I update again.
Also: AB, can you PM me when you finish all those sprites? I don't want to use outdated versions.
Dragonsbane
01-28-2005, 12:52 PM
Is this "Gammatron Edge" going to be a double-bladed sword (one handle, with a blade coming from either end...like Darth Maul's lightsabre), or a sword with two blades coming out of one end of the hilt (like the Soulcalibur)?
I have seen these Goddess sprites, and they kick ass. Serious amounts of ass.
In other news, I made a comic! Not really appropriate for posting here, since DB is the only NPF member in it, and it's text-heavy, and more serious than funny (for a specific project). Nonetheless, it is a comic, and possibly the harbinger of my complete reentry into the comic-making world. I hope so.

Dynamite220: Yeah, I suppose you can date Armored Bishoujo. She is a girl, after all. Of course, me dating guys in those comics would not only be too bizarre, but it'd also make for many more episodes of that comic. Hell, I'd have Armored Bishoujo date Thrasker if I started doing those comics.
Dragonsbane: Yes, the Grammatron Edge is going to be a double-bladed sword. It'll be big, evilly decorated, and obviously quite damaging. It probably won't put your Talos Blade to shame, but I think they'd make a close match.
Dragonsbane
01-28-2005, 08:27 PM
the Talamune makes lightsabres look obsolete. The process of enchanting it required artifacts of immense power, Sephiroth's Masamune, and the blood of a god (Talos). It can cut through literally anything, and I brag of it often. However...next to the power of my staff, it's not so impressive. Innuendo!
Still, I bet it's a cool weapon.

Well, there's still a lot of time before the decision should be finalized. I do have Flarecobra and BMG! to do first...their dates, not them. Geez, why do I keep saying that on purpose? I mean 'by accident!'
(Flarecobra and BMG! advance on me with deadly weapons.)
Be gentle...
At any rate, hopefully a red penguin sprite exists, or at least a regular one that I can recolor. Bah, there's still so much time.

I Thought thaumaturges artwork was awesome. I got an idea for a comic in NPF member fashion thats a rip of oceans 12/11 if anyone is interested message me. Although I already got ideas for it since its going to be more of a mini-series I am hoping for certain people to participate but I can't do it right now so do not expect it anytime soon.

Damn you, Meister, for being such a kickass comic artist and making even my best efforts look like garbage by comparison.
Incidently, I'll try to put to an end "Cover Those Slits!" on Monday, where I'll be beating myself brutally just to stay motivated. I was just so motivated to do comics when I had nothing to do in my work office, but I'm not working, and I have so many games for so many consoles sitting around with their awesome graphics and their beautiful anime girls (and the non-anime girls that're also very beautiful) and their stories which leave me in awe. (sighs) But I have a duty to myself and my fans, and I better deliver at some point or another.
"Cover Those Slits!" more or less will take either two or three strips by itself to wrap up. I'll complete Armored Bishoujo's "Goddess Assimilation" sprites and post those tomorrow. I've also come up with a couple more sprite editing projects for myself:
OrganiTek Armor and PenguiTek Armor - My planned attempts at editing the MagiTek Armor sprites. OrganiTek will look biological in nature, with blood and veins and valves and that nonsense, and the PenguiTek Armor is just an idea I had, which will basically be a MagiTek Armor with a penguin motif, thought up when I was thinking about QueenQeeko. I have a few ideas for the penguin motif (Chill Penguin from Megaman X that Viewtiful reminded me of), but I could always use more help. Please PM me with some good ideas for sprite bases to use.

Meister: So I take it I'm one of the hidden characters behind the question mark, because obviously my fighting skills are so great that on look at me will cause you to fall dead where you stand...or at least that's what I'm assuming causes people to fall dead when they look at me. I mean it's kinda starting to give me a complex. I mean, I know I'm ugly and all, but am I THAT ugly? Oh well, so is the story of me.
Mammoth: Why aren't you dead yet? I fried you like four comics back and yet you show no ill effects.

02-06-2005, 09:18 AM
Mammoth: Why aren't you dead yet? I fried you like four comics back and yet you show no ill effects. So far, Mammothtank has been shot, chased by his own tank, burned to a crisp, scared into submission, blown sixty yards back by his own cannon blast, terrorized by loud noise... and whatever DruidoftheDead did (it's too horrible for words).
Why is he not dead, you ask? Simple: the comic would end at that point. These are fun to make, so I'm gonna keep going.
Next up: Totsumanu and TheSpiritOfVengeance.
But enough about my comic...
Meister, that rocked. That comic was flat-out awesome.

Melfice

Yeah, me too.
I mean, come on! How can the great Melfice, not be a secret character?
Seriously though, the last comics made me laugh again. Keep up the good work everybody!
EDIT: Mammoth: count me in! My sprite is also in the "NPF Sprite Sheets" thread. I don't have any weapons or energy attacks in the sheets, but just do something with my sprite. I don't care for a win or a lose.

02-06-2005, 04:10 PM
I believe that I was a secret character, for one simple reason: Wings are a pain in the ass to add to something.
And I will be writing another story soon; watch for it
also, at some point someone was asking how to make a does not equal sign. I forget who it was, and I don't know how to do it on windows, but I know that on a mac, you hold down Option/Alt and hit equals/plus. you end up with this: !=
EDIT: how odd, after i hit send the does not equal sign split up into the two parts of not equaling
Meister
02-06-2005, 04:24 PM
Well, Newb, if a recolored Morrigan sprite is okay with you...
You know, ever time I make one of these huge, complex pain-in-the-ass comics I end up at some point asking myself "why the hell do I keep doing this?" And then I carry on, post it and, a few hours later, am reminded of the reason. Your appreciation.
And rep. Lots of it. Also you can send me money.
Thanks everyone. For everyone who's not in it (and whew, good thing I made these secret character boxes, eh? ^^), remember: there's always Hyper Forum Fighter Omega Turbo III.

When can i expect to appear in someone's comic?
The day after tommorow? *Ba-dum bum!* :bmage:
I've only appeared in one or two pieces myself, and I've been around a long time. The easiest way to get in a comic (based off of my observations) is to:
1) draw (pics of other members) really well
2) write/perform lots of poetry/songs
3) have your own spritesheet
4) be a mod/admin
5) be a girl (guys are more common)
Also, since you're relatively new, don't expect too much too soon...
