... contrary to what some people might make you want to believe. Read through the thread for details.

-----------------------------
Original Title: The end of Not Metal Gear...

...coming out of the blue and for pretty tragic reasons.

I don't even know how to say this.

Solid Shadow died today.

I won't go into details. I can't.

I suppose that, for the time being, I'll keep the site around. The comic will stay up for as long as possible. Once the domain expires that will be the end of it. If anyone cares, there will be a PDF with the whole Not Metal Gear run. Solid was working on it; I'll be finishing it up for him.

I'll check his mail, private messages, etc in case there's anything important that needs to be dealt with. If anyone out there was working on any projects with Solid, please email me at rogueshadow@randomsubstance.com if you need any material from your mutual project.

Since the comics won't be updated again, if anyone has guest comics they'd like hosted before the site goes down in January, please send them to me. I'd be glad to put them up for you.

Well shit.

I knew he had the flu, he mentioned it in one of his posts, but I really didn't think it was that bad.

And here everyone was thinking that they were gonna go through withdrawl for just a few episodes, now NMG is gone for good. The battle with ninja was only just beginning....

My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the rest of the site. I'm surprised there's been less comments in the randomsubstance forums.

Goodbye Solid Snake. We will miss you. You can do the Konami Kode in the afterlife.

Oh dear, now that's a shame. :(

I never saw Not Metal Gear... I guess I better check it now before it is gone forever...

I finished reading NMG around 10AM today, and sat there going "Heh, can't wait for the next one!"
Then I remembered and kicked myself.

It's sad that Solid Shadow passed off, but what he did while he was up and about was just 100% priceless. :)

 Uhm. Uh. Wow. I don't really have much I can say. He had a really great comic going, it was one of my favourites. Geez.

I'm changing my comic of the month, so as many people can see it as possible before it is gone.

Yeah... I finished it last night... He sounded like a witty author. Though it didn't look like he updated all that often. Still.. a shame that he left way too early.

Oh my God. That's horrible. I mean, I want to say something, but I cannot think of anything appropriate. I hope his comics don't go offline because his work should live on. No one is really gone unless they are forgotten.

Thats a shame he went, his work is really great. Its really unbelievable some of the things that happen in a day.

... So I just got back from a short vacation, decided to check the NuklearPower forum, and found out that I'm dead.

What a way to discover one's own demise.

The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.

Folks, what has just happened was a cruel joke perpetrated by someone who has no affiliation with Random Substance, Not Metal Gear, or any of my work. Rogue Shadow and I were quite surprised to find that this person was able to post to my website, and needless to say, steps have been taken to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

To anyone whose feelings may have been tweaked over this, I'm very sorry. It is nice to know, however, that I was missed :)

Whew.
Welcome back to the world of the living.
Something similar happened to a friend of mine. He was shipped overseas, and a few weeks later his parents got a letter and a check from GI Life Insurance consoling them for the lose of their son.
Things are never pretty when people die because of a hacker/ computer glitch.

I'm going to put a big hmmm at the end of this post.

He is said to be dead, but then he comes back and says someone hacked his site. However, while he is supposed to be dead, lots of people check out his comic.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Now I'm not accusing you or anything, but it seems a bit suspicious to me. Heck, when I originally saw this, I was thinking it was a publicity stunt. But I thought "Hey, if it was, he'd be dead afterwards for sure."

Damn....too bad I couldn't think of something like that for my comic site.:p

Hm. And I had one of those "another artist who wasn't fully appreciated until after he's gone" speeches ready too.

You know what? That was something I threw around in my head as a possibility all the time.

I'm rather pissed.

Eh, yeah, glad and happy too, but also pissed.

And smiling about Solid using the famous Mark Twain line.

I can go higher than boo...

Crucio!

Yes, it's from Harry Potter, but it hurts like f**k.

Faking deaths, especially if it's not your own, sucks. BIG TIME! Glad you're not really dead.

Not this time, Cyclone. I think that if I were to fake my own death I'd plan it out a bit more. You know, like not posting anything in the NuklearPower forums on October 8 when I'm supposedly dead.

I checked my voicemail finally. My brother was on there about eight times, freaking out, not knowing what the hell was going on.

But it was so planned out if you did; think about it, you got a big old bunch of extra views, placed a little something there so that you'd have something to say proved you weren't, then announced that some brainless moron hacked your site.

It's a very good idea, I do think I will take it.

Cyclone, consider that originally the message was only on his site. I brought this to this forum's attention in the first place (because I knew there were NMG readers here, and because Solid is a fellow member), so if it had been planned, I would have to have known of it. And I swear, when I visited the site that day, I was as shocked as anybody.

Jesus. You don't know how much of a relief that is. I hate hearing that someone has died, but I always like it when it comes back to life.

And I'm changing my comic of the month back. You were scheduled for next month.

Solid Shadow

I suppose Cyclone makes a good point. I checked the stats for the webpage and it shows that from the 8th through the 10th I had about forty visits more per day than usual. Mine is a meager website; I average about 42 visits per day (hundreds of actual page hits per day though), which is quite small. So my traffic for those three days nearly doubled.

I should be dead more often :)

Haha, well don't be dead too often, no-one needs the same shock 279 times. :D

Yeah. There's only so many times you can die before it becomes mundane. You only have to look at Hyatt from Excel Saga to get the idea.

He's our very own Kenny.

And since this issue is resolved and NMG has drawn enough new readers... CLOS'D!

Hmmm, that [insert thingie here]'D joke works not quite as well if the thingie is a passive construction to begin with...
