View Full Version : Could anyone help me with Bit Torrent?

The bit torrent client I was using (Bit Tornado) stopped working for me. Whenever I tried to open a new torrent (one I DLed form suprnova.org) it would say, not a valid repsonsefile (or something similar, I can't quite remember). And I can't even redownload bit tornado because the site that host it isn't working for me anymore either (the main site works, but it won't let me download). Anyone have any ideas that might help me out?

Have you tried downloading a tracker from a different site?

Don't download from suprnova.org - seriously. There are groups monitoring it that work for the mpaa/riaa/whomever is in control of the video games (ECS I think).

I got busted once and they shut down my ISP account for the day until I called tech support and got a slap on the wrist.

suprnova.org is bad now. Spread the word.

Woah, thanks for the heads up.

*crosses suprnova off a shrinking list of torrent sites*

Hey! WHats wrong with K-Lite? As long as you don't try Dled exe's and you have a working antivirus program, its not that bad. Most of what I pirate is shows/movies or music anyway so viruses aren't that high of a risk anyway.

www.boxtorrents.com will set you up anime/manga wise.

Unless it's licensed by ADV and some other place. (they requested that those torrents be removed)

Hush!!! Don't go throwing that link around everywhere, that's how we lost ADV!

Nosferatu

No we lost ADV b/c they are modern day nazi's ... ¬.¬

Well, we were sort of stealing from them....but then again, they were and are still price gouging.

Dear Suprnova.org...how I loved thee. I shall mourn thy passing with a single tear, for to do less would be cold but to do more would be against thy spirit. Ye would have wanted us, rather, to move on to another fount of life.

he is very much indeed full of it

now go and take it out of him:

conn. speed.
56 k 5 - 7 kb/s
128 10-15 kb/s
256 30 - 33 kb/s
512 60 - 66 kb/s

so on ....

Not true when referring to Torrent.

Cuz I got a 300 sumtin Cable connection and I can dl at over 200kb's per-second using BT some times.

It all truly depends on the seeders.

ChaosMage

Right...and 200 is less than 300, so it makes perfect sense. What we were pointing out is that you can't exceed the basic limits of your connection medium. For example, your cable is probably capped at 350 kb/s. What this means is that its impossible for you to download at, say, 2 megabytes per second. Similarly, on dialup it is literally impossible for him to download any faster than about 5.5 kb/s (Theoretical is 6, but theoretical doesn't work, plus theres also some TCP/IP overhead)

Fyi Dial up = 56k IE 56k upload/download.

Highest you can get is 56k speed(if running duel line)

When I had dial up I was gettin around 25-30kb's on most dl's.

And chaos I was correcting him on his lil chart. B/c if you look at it, it's severly inaccurate.

ChaosMage

Ah, but I think he's listing his chart in kilobits and converting to kilobytes (The conversion is 8 bits to a byte). That 300+ connection speed when you've got cable you're referring to is in kilobytes.

Nosferatu

around 95% of all downloads measure in kilobytes.

Only place I've ever seen it do Kilobits was on Fileplanet.

And there I get around 3-4kb

I need to enable cookies to use boxtorrents, could someone tell me how to do that? (I didn't see it in the security settings)

sometimes on a fast server (not bittorrent) I dl at 60-70kb/s but it goes down to 5-7kb/s in after a few mins.

EDIT: and that friend i was talkin about is joseph pandora from this forum(NPF).

I think that Chaos while saying that Dial up will get you up to 5.5 KB/s, understands what im trying to say BUT if this is true then my chart would not be incorrect ainnacurate maybe incorrect...hmmm..

and I am only talking about download line not upload because I hear in the USA you get, and please correct me if im wrong, less upload than you do download for instance if you buy a 256 KB/s you will get that in DL but you will 128 for UP

Bah. Not even. I've got a 350 down 50 up connection at home with cable, and thats a typical residential connection.

Ok, I got Bit Tornado working (yay), I think the site that hosted the DL (of the installer) was just having problems. Now, in order to use that boxtorrents site, I need to enable cookies, problem is, I"m nearly positive that their already enabled, but the site tells to I have to do it before logging in. So, how do you enable cookies (in internet explorer)?
