I think I have my character almost finished...

Ac is caluculated by Armor + dex (If allowed by armor) + shield (Or lack therof) + 10
Flat footed is all that - your dex.
Touch is all that - your armor and shield. (I think)
Hp is your class hit die, D6 in this case, maxed at level 1, (6), +d6, + con mod per level (None)
BAB is determined by class level, I believe a Level 2 rouge has +1 BAB
Attacks is determined by your Strength bonus + bab + any weapon modifiers, Or your Dex bonus if you have weapon finesse, (If your a rouge, GET THAT FEAT.) unfortuantely, you cant take it at 1st level (When you get to take your first feat) Because it requires +1 BAB, which a rouge acquires at second level.
I'll calc your AB in a second, with a short sword, (I'd go with that for a rouge)
Bab = 1, +3 Strength, +1 if masterwork weapon, (300 gp extra) would be +5. (Same as my cleric) If you forwent the masterwork weapon, It'd be +4. With Weapon finesse at 3rd level, It would be +7 (Non masterwork, BAB 2, +5 dex bonus)
Your Damage is, D6 +3 (Shortsword damage + STR), with a critical range of 19-20 x2 (Normal sword range, I believe)
Because your a rouge, If you catch your target off-guard, If they are flat-footed, or otherwise not paying attention (fighting another PC), you get a "sneak attack" bonus to damage. 1d6 per odd rouge level. My joke is "Never ignore the rouge" as the damage adds up fast. I always target them first if possible, to eliminate their bonus. I beleive sneak is optional, so if you dont want to draw attention by suddenly eviscerating someone's left kidney, and getting them to smack you when your at low HP.
((Continuation for determining IHMN's stuff))

A wand of CLW is, indeed, 750 gp, although that is the price for a wand with all 50 charges. A 25-charge wand would only cost 375, and so on.
IHateMakingNames
10-14-2004, 07:42 PM
Because it requires +1 BAB, which a rouge acquires at second level.
We start at 2.
PhoenixFlame
10-14-2004, 07:44 PM
We start at 2.
But you do not have a feat to take at level 2. You take your first feat at level 1, your second at level 3. Therefore, you would be required to take it no sooner than level 3. You've a hefty STR bonus anyways, (Odd for a rouge.) not like your poor -2 mod halfling. It wont hurt you nearly as bad as the rouge I like to play.
By the way, Your grapple would be 1+3=[4] (Your a medium sized creature, right?)
Thanks for the Clarification RD, I've never had the oppertunity to buy magical items... "Secondhand". I dont think I'll need one personally, Aryallis has heal skill and a healer's kit for any dying people, and she's got plenty of magical heals. (Looks at char-sheet) Allright... maybe not plenty, but enough for an encounter... or two...
Hey! I distinctly remember cure minor wounds doing 4 points of healing, and the healing domain allowing me to cast heals at 150% total success, Casting them at +1 caster level (And no cap being raised!) would seem like a waste of a domain, and it wouldn't even affect cure minor wounds at all. Maybe that was just wrong, but it's what I was used to. Relying on my limited level 1 spells at this level to heal will mean I won't be able to do cool things like, Bless... and stuff.
((Okay, maybe they just made those changes to balance clerics in NWN... I cannot now, for the life of me, see any use at all to the healing domain in 3.5. All I see is it allows me to heal +1 hp for my maximum level heals, becoming totally and utterly useless when I get the "Heal" spell. Which, unlike what I'm used to, was a 5th level spell should one have a healing domain.))

Ooh, I just heard about Artificer the base class (Magic of Faerun presents the GNOME Artificer, which is vastly different from the Artificer they were talking about. Besides, I don't wanna be a gnome. x_-), but, then again, I don't have the class specifics for it, not having the ECS. D'oh.

A ukelele? Wow. Way to go, Andy. I shall let your level be decided by a jury of your peers.
This is really moving along, guys, game might actually begin sometime in the near future. Perhaps we should start thinking about WHAT time that might be, exactly?
IHateMakingNames
10-14-2004, 08:35 PM
A background/character concept would make a nice addition. :)
That's the easy part. I just want to get all the stats done first.
How do you calculate saves?
PhoenixFlame
10-14-2004, 08:36 PM
Base class save + relevant ability bonus + supernatural bonuses (we dont have those, we're not cool enough) = save.
Your saves.
Reflex = 3+5=8
Will = 0+2=2
Fortitude = 0+0=0
Kazastankas
10-14-2004, 08:38 PM
A L2 Rogue has +0 Fort, +3 Refl, and +0 Will as base saves. You add your CON mod to your Fort save, your DEX mod to your Refl save, and your WIS mod to your Will save. Simple as that. Of course, there are other save changers (like Paladin's divine grace), but eh.
EDIT: Hey, I'm cool enough... :(
AndyBloodredMage
10-14-2004, 08:45 PM
A ukelele? Wow. Way to go, Andy. I shall let your level be decided by a jury of your peers.
I shall await! And in case this influences the voting, my original stats were much better, but I didn't think that would be fun, so I toned it down. I got more than one 18 originally thanks to your "reroll 1" dealie.
Dragonsbane
10-14-2004, 08:57 PM
Just how stat-and-feat-based is this going to be, RD? Or is this all just general stuff to check approximate ability scores and statistics?
PhoenixFlame
10-14-2004, 08:57 PM
I personally vote for level 2. But I know all your prestige people will want 3, and, so will other people.
Right.
We'd have to recalculate how much money we had too.
IHateMakingNames
10-14-2004, 09:03 PM
Unless there is some rule I am missing, I could already be prestige assassin (With a kill in background) at level 2.
I vote for level 2, since everyone but Andy has done level 2, so why make everyone work because of him?
AndyBloodredMage
10-14-2004, 09:07 PM
If that's the way it is, I will personally update each person's character sheets, outside of them picking their next feat.
Dragonsbane
10-14-2004, 09:08 PM
because not everyone is IHMN? Because some of us might also have reason to choose a slightly higher level? Because not everyone is so willing to force a comrade-in-arms to weaken a character he worked hard on?
You asked "why", and I have answered.
IHateMakingNames
10-14-2004, 09:11 PM
DB, one person worked hard on one higher leveled character. At least 4 people have worked hard on 4 weaker leveled characters (Pheonix did 1.5).
Edit - Anyway, level 2 seems better. For the first D&D RP, might as well start low.
Kazastankas
10-14-2004, 09:16 PM
I'd like to stick with Level 2. In most low-levelled campaigns I've been through, Level 2 was the great starting point, as it marked a lot more power than 1. Level 3, I think, is sorta superfluous as a starting point.
Dragonsbane
10-14-2004, 09:27 PM

I abstain from the voting process.

10-14-2004, 09:46 PM
Can someone help me doublecheck the price formula for wands?
Kazastankas
10-14-2004, 09:47 PM
The artificer indeed seems to be an interesting class. However:
1] A horrible fighter (neither fighter or caster. A very SLOW enchanter.)
2] Needs lots of gold (never something good to rely on)
3] Works well to benefit only if with, say, allied magical weapons (Retain Essence is VERY sexy. But still costly. See number 2.)
4] I don't think the concept fits well into a FR setting.
So I think I'll have to pass. I'd expect the Artificer to produce mostly only scrolls anyway, and I might as well Pal5/Cleric5/DwarvenDefender10 to get Craft Magical Arms (though I really wanted those 2 fighter levels!)
EDIT: The DMG's Page 236 states that a CLW wand has a market price of 750 GP, and assuming that's the full 50 charges, it is indeed correct. You can buy 18 charges for 270, if RD allows.
Dragonsbane
10-14-2004, 09:59 PM

I usually don't multiclass this early...could someone please calculate the AB and Saving Throw bonuses for a Level 1 Fighter/1 Monk?
Wisdom: 18
Dexterity: 17 (I miscalculated an earlier roll...6+6+5 does NOT equal 16!)
Constitution:14
Kazastankas
10-14-2004, 10:11 PM
Fightersave - 2/0/0
Fighterbab - 1
Monksave - 2/2/2

Dude, why would a Rogue EVER use a short sword? Rapiers are, obviously, custom-made to be used by Rogues, for three reasons:
1). Same damage as a Short Sword
2). twice the critical range of a short sword
3). Can be used with Weapon Finesse
Plus, as medium weapons they're harder to disarm, sunder, snatch, etc.

Finally, I have something to post. It's far from complete, but I'll continue to work on it. These past few days have been pretty busy for me, I'm afraid.
Heh, I may not trust the artefacts of luck in the real world, but the computer dice seemed to like me...
Here are my rolls from DiceMage (rolling 4d6, keeping the top 3, re-rolling 1s, as described by RD):
15 13 14 8 16 15
Furthermore, I have swapped the 8 for the god-roll of 16.
One thing concerns me: I have been told about a feat called Spellcasting Prodigy from the Faerun setting which sounds like it could be very useful to my character. Unfortunately, the WoC documents on the site that Dante pointed to don't have this feat, so I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this, and perhaps point me to references for feats, skills, and spells which aren't in the WoC documents.
In any case, here he is:
PhoenixFlame
10-15-2004, 01:49 PM
Thaum, your character dosen't actually have a weapon. I know he's a spellcaster, but at least take a light crossbow. You can't cast all the time.
Dude, why would a Rogue EVER use a short sword? Rapiers are, obviously, custom-made to be used by Rogues, for three reasons:
1). Same damage as a Short Sword
2). twice the critical range of a short sword

Because... I goofed?
Besides, I *generally* play halfling rogues. which would mean I do not have any experience on rapiers and their specialness.
Plus, you can use a shortsword when grappled. A rouge thats grappled and unarmed = dead.
Rouges in combat rely on sneak attack damage anyways. Actual weapon damage and strength is secondary. Contingencies and skills are primary.
(Halflings are small creatures, so a medium weapon like a rapier is b-ad.)
Anyways. IHMN, he does have a point, but your AB wont change any with a rapier. Only the critical range changes, to 18-20 2x, and is size: Medium
A rapier can only do piercing damage, and may not slash, Making it harder to damage creatures resistant to piercing, shuch as undead, constructs, and... elementals? I think.
Kazastankas

Kazastankas
10-15-2004, 04:51 PM
Alright. Spellcasting Prodigy basically raises your spellcasting stat by 2 (Cleric = Wis, Sorc = Cha, Wiz = Int) when determining saving throw DC and bonus spells. It's a nifty thing, and it's Level 1 ONLY, so you either take it or you never have it.

50 ft. Hemp Rope (1 gp)
5 bottles of greek fire (10 gp each/50 gp total)

Although it does not mention it, they can presumably (Given enough time) be recovered. Although, RD would need to okay that, not to mention a certain % loss of "Damage" Caltrops. (They can't be all that durable)

Artisan's outfit: 1 gp/4lbs
Explorer's outfit: 10 gp/8lbs
Traveler's garb: 1 gp/5lbs (General adventurer stuff.)

Hopefully this weekend. most character's sheets are up, with the remaining falling into place. I know I'm ready, and impatiently waiting ;)
NOTE: RD, if you've already DL'ed my stat-sheet for your own use, please do it again. I see no point in my Cleric having an INT of 16, so i swapped it with my 14 CHA. I am taking D-might anyhow.

Okay, guys, printing out your character sheets as we speak. Sorry I couldn't get on yesterday...all the radiators in my apartsment startsed spewing water, which diverted water from the toilet, rendering it unable to flush, also soaking many clothes and books...serves me right for not being more organized, I guess, but it was still a huge mess. Fear not; no D&D books were harmed. Poor Digital Web...poor Tenchi in Tokyo...
Anyway, sorry for the delay. I am typically unable to get online Sundays, I'm busy until 5 M-F, and I have classes M & W nights. When do other people usually get online, and what time would be good to play?

Okay, awaiting character sheets from DB and Thaum, an updated sheet for Andy, and names for Dante's & IHMN's chars.
TO ALL NEWCOMERS: This thread is now reserved for the players already involved in the game. There are already more than I had anticipated, and there is currently no room for more. If you think this all sounds like fun and want to know more about it, post in the stickied D&D thread instead. I love talking about gaming stuff, just let's do the general stuff there and the more specific stuff here.
The campaign, barring any serious objections, will begin in the Dalelands. The towns are often small, but not lacking in the necessities, and also features nearby Cormanthor, ancient home of the elves. Lathander is also worshipped in that area, and there are dwarves. I couldn't have asked for a better location for you guys. I'll be sure to post more as I work out the details.
Edit: Spellcasting Prodigy-must be taken @ level 1-For the purpose of determining bonus spells and save DCs, treat your primary spellcasting ability score as 2 points higher than its actual value.
Edit part 2: Yes, emailing me is a perfectly acceptable way to share your character sheet.

I don't really think we need to worry about time that much in a forum RPG, as one can just implement a limited 'action' post number per day, or something like that.
Hmm, the Dalelands. Y'know, I only thought that as a ADnD 2ed world, but I DO have Volo's Guide to the Dalelands sitting around as well as a large map of the place, if anyone wanted to see. Nevertheless, it's an interesting place.

As for what Kazastankas says, well. DnD is rather strict with actions, so, I'm pretty sure foruming would go really slow. It would still be helpful if we were on at specific times to speed the inherant slowness up however.

Is this going to be a long running thing, or more of a short-intro thing and a bigger campaign happens after this test goes over well? I was assuming the latter. If it's the former, I would want to change my character (Right now I am just going straight Rouge since it would be simple enough).
Edit - The character I would want would be a Shadowdancer, so I would change some of my guy's skills around, and give him a new feat.

In any case, without further ado, allow me to introduce Thaumas:

Kurndar may fit anywhere in the town, almost. He is able to succumb to his dwarvish heritage and do the ol' bar thing, or go with his Paladin duty and basically wander while dispensing of criminals..
..but given that most towns have militia, he'd likely go with the first one, with a general overtone of wandering around.
And it is possible for LEG to come into the campaign attached to Kurndar, for he has a heart for strays (though strays he thinks are children, and those that, uhm, can kick his ass), despite the 'elf' thing.

Atheism is risky business in the Realms...the Faithless are used as bricks in the wall around the City of Judgement in the afterlife, held in place by a disgusting mold that eventually devours even the consciousness.
Chauntea is the Harvest Goddess, a Demeter type
Azuth is The Magic God That Isn't Mystra
Cyric is the insane Prince of Lies
Gond is beloved of inventors, innovators, and pesky gnomes
Helm is the Protector, ever vigilant
Lathander is Hope and Renewal and Such
Loviatar leads to...*Yoda voice* Suffering
Mask is the Sneaky Thief God
Mystra....well, I'll let DB recite his litany of praise
Oghma is all about the knowledge
Shar is mistress of the Shadow Weave, aka Nega-Mystra
Sune is the Resident Aphrodite
Tempus is The Mighty Battle God!
Torm is Paladin Personified
Tymora favors adventurers with her Luck
Tyr brings Justice, plain and simple
For a more detailed (and possibly slightly less tongue-in-cheek) description of these, or other, deities, ask away.
Dragonsbane
10-19-2004, 11:33 AM
Technically, Azuth is the God of Wizards. If Mystra governs magic, then he rules over those who wield arcane magic.
Ask me any questions you have about the deities of Forgotten Realms, and I shall answer.
Yes, I know that thing about the mold and the wall...at least, that's how things were during Myrkul's tenure as God of Death. My character, on the other hand, just hasn't picked a god yet.
Torm is technically God of Loyalty/Duty.
Tyr is God of Justice....NOT Fairness (there's a difference!)
*finishes making petty distinctions that you already knew about*

Okay, let me explain something to you folks, who, unlike DB and myself, have not wasted your precious brainspace with imaginary deity information. There are gods for frickin' everything in FR...That was the summarized version.
DB, the wall is still there. Kelemvor lets it stay.
*to the audience* He's the god that judges the dead, and Mystra's old boyfriend when they were both mortals! Neat, huh?
*back to DB*
And Torm is primarily worshipped by whom? He wields what type of weapon? Answer: Paladins, Holy Avenger.
Ergo, he's Paladin-Guy. Probably has the gleaming teeth and butt-chin thing kickin', too...
Kazastankas

What is the Hit Die for a monk and a fighter? (that dice you roll to determine HP on level-up)

HD for monk - d8. HD for Fighter - d10.
How many skill points would a level 1 Fighter/1 Monk with 14 Intelligence have?
Depends on which level came first, because monk gets (4 + Int Mod) x 4 SPs at 1st level, while fighter gets (2 + Int Mod) x 4 SPs, and favors different skills.
How much gold do we get, and how much do a couple of daggers and a quarterstaff cost? In addition to Monk Robes, of course.
You start with 900 gold. For equipment check the SRD.
AndyBloodredMage

Not sure which came first, but the backstory would indicate Fighter...since we're level 2, there would be additional skill points at level-up, when my character gets his first Monk level. How many would he get for that?
What's the SRD?

Monk's robes are 5 Gp and weigh 2 pounds.
They are made of fine cloths held together by strong sashes. The folds are large and strong enough to conceal light weapons. The sashes are also strong enough to be used as ropes, should improvisiation be nessecary.
Hope that helps, glad your Character sheet is done DB :p
Dragonsbane
10-20-2004, 06:33 AM
Dante, I was actually working on a way around that...some of my research reveals that virtually every monk sect in the Forgotten Realms has some ability to multiclass freely.
In this case, I invented a group called the Monks of the Rising Moon, whose practices include a mandatory "banishment" for all initiates at some point in their training, as a journey of self-discovery to teach initiates about the world outside the monastery. During this journey, they are free to explore other styles and decide if continuing as a Monk of the Rising Moon is really right for them. Thus, they can multiclass freely as long as Monk is not their lowest-level class.
Hmm....according to my sourcebooks, taking the Dalelands Region means that I get that longbow for free, but I'll take away an extra 150 gp from my total to make it Masterwork...leaving me with 338gp.
