EminEm...ya i like him...so i made this thread...i got his new cd Encore its awsome im sure guys have at least heard some of his old songs...or the very popular "just lose it" :wmage:

No... I hate rappers, especially Eminem. It brings a bad reputation to humans. I just don't like him...

overall though I think he is a pretty negative artist and doesn't have
anything very positive to say, and so he isn't too useful to me.

Yeah, I've heard of Eminem. He isn't too bad, it's just that when the radio keeps playing his songs over and over again it gets annoying. I only have The Eminem Show of his CDs...bleh. "Just Lose It" is cool.

I'm a big fan of eminem, despite his outwardly negative demeanor, he still finds a way to be inspirational. His song "lose yourself" illustrates that point perfectly. He is a very talented man who just happens to be an odd color for his profession, and thats the reason I think many people find him to be distasteful.
I used to be a big fan of hip hop (back in the heyday of bad boy entertainment, when B.I.G. was still around) and I am happy that some artists still have the ability to come up with great lyrics.
news flash people, beats aren't all their is to a song, and the nest time I hear "till the sweat drips from my balls" I'm going to start doing drivebys

That being said he does certainly have some inspirational (songs? tracks?) raps. It'd be neat if he would do that sort more often, and the I hate fags/the president/black people/overreactive parents/people who hate me bit less often.

sorry for my generalization there shiney, I was just commenting ont he fact that all most high grossing rap artist do is spout out profanity and ignorance, so why should eminem be held to a different standard?
but somewhere, behind all the bitch this and smoke that, I think hip hop has a soul. At least it used to.

im glad there are lots of EminEm fans out there i myself have been a fan since i was six...im thirteen now and still a fan...the whole hating all that junk...he is just playing but, most can't take crude jokes...which is really sad because, most of the funny things in life are crude...but it does feel weird listening to his songs to Haiylee because my name is Haley too...even though i know the damn song isn't about me...not my point...just weird thats all

Now, that's not to say that Eminem doesn't have some songs that ARE funny, and ARE crude humor, but he also has a lot that are nothing but exactly what I put above.

but yeah, you're right about the majority of rap being total garbage, but I find the same lack of depth and meaning in bubble gum pop, or a lot of heavy metal. A vast majority of popular music can be summed up as "pretty sounds for certain types of people" but just because a genre has a lot of refuse floating throughout it, and just because an artist makes a few shitty songs, doesn't mean they still can't produce something worth listening to.
and the quote from eminem is one of sarcastic humor and sniping aimed towards canibus: the hip hop equivalent of shoving eachother in the playground while everyone around you yells out fight.
I don't take his anti homosexual sentiments to heart either, if I did that I'd have to do it for everyone, and then I'd probably hate my parents, so do what you want with that one...

I was merely irritated about how WolvesDryYourTears was insinuating that people who didn't like Eminem felt that way because they didn't understand crude humor. I'm more crude than he is. That doesn't make a lot of what he does funny, and, quite frankly, there is such a thing as decency.
Some of his lyrics are funny, I'll admit... but quite a few of them aren't.
And, there are two reasons I like music, either:
a) It's funny. Very very funny. Like, Robitussin or The Super Mario Rap.
or
b) It presents an emotion, and presents it well. Preferably an emotion that doesn't make me sick to my stomach.

That said, I don't like Eminem. His lyrics have just been the same stuff/scenarios churned out over and over again. Yes, his past may have sucked. Yes, we know about it. No, we don't need to hear about it again.
He was good back in the day, but now, unless he comes up with something more creative than the majority of the songs on his albums, I don't think I'll be wanting to listen to much more.
(Unless I'm forced to, the guys in the stockroom I SWEAR have never heard of any other artists...)

I think that opinion might be attributed to mental self-conditioning. If you just listen to it without any pretenses, there is actually some worth in it. Its just that the majority of it is so overviolent and overhyped, millionaires off a drum beat.
Kanye West is great, so are the Black Eyed peas, and for someold school try listening to Del tha Funky Homosapien. They may be somewhat below the radar, but good rap artists do exist Rai.

She's right, yknow. And unfortunately with the way the rap industry glorifies violence, lawlessness, etc, it will be a long time before I will consider it worthwhile. Any giant movement that consists of people trying to be as gangsta as they can, showing off how stupid rich they are while carrying guns or pretending to, acting like complete idiots and children in public, is a movement that has and will gain no credibility except amongst the type of people who lap that shit up.
The few artists who dare to break the mold and be inspirational or at the very least non-confrontational never seem to get above that radar. It's like the industry only wants this criminalistic image. There are a few, yes, but it's like a needle in a haystack trying to find them.

Eminem is fine. I'll leave him alone, and watch his funny videos every now and then. It would be more often, but I don't know where to download them, and local MTV is too stuck on Punk Rock to ever really show rap. (another reason to hate: Ecuador)
I honestly like his music. And, his videos have made me laugh quite a bit. I think even the Eminem haters would agree that some of the videos (Will the Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up?, Without Me, Just Lose It...) are funny.
As far as rap in general, there are some inspirational rap songs. About death. Mourning, really. And, a song called "Lady Heroin" against drugs. Then again, I had to dig pretty far back for them, so I guess you are more correct every day. The image promoted by rappers is honestly, not fun. And, I wish rappers would remember that while they aren't goin' up in da hood, poppin' caps in yo' ass and what not, they DO influence their listeners.

I agree with everything in there.
Without me is pretty funny too. He does make funny videos. In his more harsh songs he does say things like im just playing(sometimes). I don't really think hes a bad guy.

Rap is rap, no matter which way you look at it.That's not really saying anything significant. It's like saying "Rock is rock, no matter which way you look at it." or "Techno is techno, no matter which way you look at it." Of course it is, that's why it's its own genre.
I think there is a spectrum of emotions and experiences that can be displayed for every genre. But there are also genre-benders. By and large I think most rap is driven to either show a negative image or a glorified one. I, personally, am not too interested in either of those images.

I completly agree. It seems all Eminem does these days are tell about his hard past and make fun of others. I would like to see something new. Maybe thats just the way he writes. Over a period of time though it does get old.

He's also as mainstream as mainstream as can be. Believe it or not, if it gets played a lot on the radio or MTV, it's probably a no-talent rap/hip-hop musician, and I don't listen to them as a matter of principle.
That being said, some of his songs are catchy and funny, but lots of bad things are catchy.

Also, the offensive lyrics thing, it's kinda like Duke Nukem. Duke Nukem is a violent game, in a violent genre. The developers knew that, and, instead of trying to tone it down, they raised it up! Eminem knows that about 90% of rap is offensive to someone, so he just lets it rip. And, at times, it can get funny (Just Lose It, Without Me.) and at times, inspirational (Stan, Lose Yourself, Cleanin' Out My Closet, 8-Mile (see lyrics in my above post to see if you recognize it. It's from that scene on the bus from the movie, when he tries to write a song.))
