Hello to all you crazy NPFers out there! I’m starting a new rp, this will be my sophomore effort. I’m looking for about six to eight people to sign up, and then hopefully we’ll have some fun with this.

Here’s the idea, in the near future an interesting vein of physics has evolved. A
culmination of many things, some considered to be pseudo science or downright superstition. Science has approached the limits of its usefulness, and the age-old questions still remain.

Who are we?
What are we?
Why are we?
What is a soul?

You are to be thrust into the role of one who will witness the genesis of a new reality, who will help to shape a future in the past, a past that does not exist yet.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, your character is basically just a normal person in modern society, no special powers or over the top abilities, no dodging bullets or flying. In fact, they could very well be you. Whoever they are, destiny has a lot in store for them.

The dodging bullets comes later.

Make up a character that has a reasonable chance of hanging around high security research laboratories. The template is simple:

Name: any old handle will do
Age: how long ya been ‘round?
Height and weight: just the basics
Physical appearance: blue hair? Only if you’re some kind of punk rocker
History: just a brief synopsis of what your character has been doing, no saving the world or any such thing, just educational and personal history. Family members and that sort of thing.

Outlook: try and sum up your characters philosophy in a few sentences. (or paragraphs.)

Occupation: why is your character hanging around research labs? (example: scientist, security guard, teenage child of employee, drink cart girl, executive, maintenance man.)

After the characters are posted here, I’ll start the thread.

Name: Brian Veneklasen

Age: 27

Height and weight: 5'10" 150

Physical appearance: Male, uncombed light medium length brown hair, blue eyes with speckles of olive (my actual iris colors), a bad ass goatee, medium muscle build(not too much but can do some lifting/running etc.)

History: Brain was born in the middle class life style in western Michigan, part of a large family of 4 kids he had to strive to get attention...the basics...trying new things, doing good in school taking part in sports, that sort of thing. After graduating from his high school with honors, he was given a cross-country scholarship. With his education paid for he went on to get a masters in computer programming and majoring in engineering and political science. He has one older brother, an older sister, and a little brother. Parents are still together(been 36 years!). He is currently working on a PhD in network management.

Outlook: Brian believes that in ever person lays the ability to make choices, reasoning, imagination. Violence is wrong unless it is in self-defense. He will not kill unless provoked the greatest extremes. Finally he is passionate in whatever he does.

Occupation: He was then hired as a assistant and was then promoted to network analyzer.

Name: Danny Meshire
Age:14
Height and Weight: 5'7" and 145 lbs.
Appearance: Brown hair with blonde highlights, glasses, hazel eyes, a little overweight, small muscle build

History: I've spent most of my life wallowing in my own misery, the only times I trully enjoyed life was when I was with my friends or playing a video game. I have an excellent memory and his only skills are algebra and playing games.

Outlook: You had the ability to shape your future but you made it what it is now, and sometimes you couldn't be happier.

Occupation: Middle school student

Name: Kale Aytin
Age: 25
Height/ Weight: 6'1"/190 lbs.
Appearance: Brown hair, gray eyes, not muscular but well-toned, and a crooked, once-broken nose.
History: Born and raised in a suburb of Phoenix, went to public school, but didn't do well enough to go to college. Not very brainy, he does have a lot of common sense and gets along well with people, which got him a job as a junior lab assistant (aka errand boy), despite his lack of college education. Recently he finally started taking a few college classes, and took an interest in kickboxing.
Outlook: Realizes that some people are just smarter than others, and is determined to be as helpful to as many people as he can, despite his inability to grasp some things.
Occupation: Junior lab assistant

Let me get back to you on this. I need time to think. I have interest, but I need to divine some sort of character out of thin air for it, perhaps original or perhaps an adjustment of one that I already have in existence. Either way, I shall return later with something.

Age: 26
Height and weight: 5' 6" and 116
Physical appearance: American caucasian female; brunette; hazel eyes; slim and beautiful; 33" x 26" x 32" dimensions; glasses and slightly pale skin from too much time spent under the glare of manmade light
History: In spite of the desire of her parents to have a more athelic career due to her surprising amount of strength and stamina for being such a seemingly weak girl, Elaine used college to major in molecular biology, and is respected and looked after by her collegues at work, if not lusted after somewhat by her friends. Elaine understands their attraction since only once or twice a month do they ever venture to the surface. Elaine usually attends every laboratory session to learn more about all of the samples that are brought in, in hopes of earning the highest security clearance and one day getting involved with the brilliant scientific minds at the top.
Outlook: Doesn't believe in things until she sees them; likes other women; doesn't care about things normal girls would care about, like makeup and shopping; isn't religious; rarely shares her opinion
Occupation: Molecular biologist

RMV, Danny and Wilysword: you guys need to come up with new character names, the concepts seem alright, but they must have original and believable modern names.

Swordopolis? come on guys. This is going to be a somewhat seriously played rp, if that helps you any. Also, when I said it could be you, I didn't mean it literally, don't make characters to represent yourself, come up with someone completely unique (and fictional) to play with.

Here's one of my characters from the board in which I originated, adjusted to fit the boundries of your campaign.

Name: Reggie Malone
Age: 20
Height And Weight: 5' 8", 175 lbs.

Physical Appearance: Caucasian skinned man with dark red hair that is fair and average in length. His physical build is verging on athletic (meaning he's not the 4-minute mile type), though having a somewhat lanky appearance to it. Typical clothing includes that of black jeans, gray or dark-green shirt, and a brown longcoat (like a durable harsh-weather trenchcoat). The long has many inner pockets and deep outer pockets, making it easy for him to conceal things. His shoes are black sneakers, steel-toed.

History: The personal life of Reggie Malone is not a pleasant one. At a young age, ten, he was abandoned by his father, who had been losing touch with reality every since his wife left him. Reggie only has fleeting memories of his mother. A name occurs, but only an impression of a face. What Reggie did in order to survive the next ten years of his life was to take life into his own two hands...and use them to steal. Because this was his life on the line, he was meticulously careful about the way he stole. Living out of his rundown home, he rarely ever stole big. If people noticed that he was suddenly on the high-rise, they might suspect something. Hence, he's been lower-middle class, living off light-fingers and sneaky-business ever since the time he was left on his own. To date, nobody knows that he steals for a living. People think of him as a jack-of-all-trades, an odd jobs kind of person, or... (See Occupations" for further info.)

Outlook: Live in the moment, the here and now, because the future is full of uncertainty and chaos. Don't put all your faith in other people. They may end up back-stabbing youi later. Honesty is not always the best policy. The truth hurts and a white lie turneth away wrath.

Occupation: A Private Investigator. Reggie fronts his sleight-of-hand business by acting as an investigator for situations of varying types aside from the odd jobs. He is not well-known in the business. Currently, he is on a Missing Items Case, in which "Someone is going around the place, nicking stuff". This gives him a moderate amount of clearance, but only as much as the execs will allow.

My edited name is now, Brian Veneklasen, to do a little explaining Brain sounds like my frist name and...Veneklasen is in reality the last name of my 7 generations back grand father...that is the only dutch I have in me...hopefully my parents will not see that I used that name...there was a faimily spilt and the 6 gereration back eldest son was disowned...he was my great, great, great, what ever. So yea...

and also, just because I said "somewhat serious" doesn't mean "dark" or "depressed" just put some thought into your posts and the overall flow of the game.

and Danny, just come up with a completely new name, not your own name or an ancient family name, just something new. also Jeff Gordon still isn't cutting it.

also, I'd like to know what everyones role playing experience is. I'm going to need somewhat experienced, and mature individuals if this is going to work. Judging by some recent posts, there seems to be a shortage of those virtues.

Danny and RMV, your initial characters kind of worry me, makes me think you just weren't paying attention or something, especially where the names are concerned, plus you're pretty new...

Name: Lucian "Thanatos" Darius
Age: 27
Physical appearance: 6'0 250lbs Short curly hair, Black with bright red highlights. Muscular Build. Caucasian.
History: Lucian Darius is a Graduate Student at the local University. He has fallen on some hard times in his life. Every time he tries to get ahead, something seems to happen that knocks him a step behind. He is currently studying Music composition, but in order to make ends meet, he has taken up singing lead for a rock band that plays at a few local bars. His roommate, also a graduate student at the local University, is studying physics. He has been working as a research assistant for one of his professors. The manager at the bar told Lucian and his band "Dead Man's Door" that they would get payed a percentage of all sales. In order to help Lucian out, his roommate often brings some of the guys from the lab to the bar for a few drinks and to hear the band.

Outlook: You've got to go with the flow. You have to take the good with the bad, but they will always balance themselves out. Death is an inevitable aspect of life, so why be afraid of it. You don't have to embrace it, but still there is no need to worry over the trivial things.

Occupation: Graduate Student studying music education. Also the lead singer and keyboardist for a local Rock band.

Role playing experience: Mostly Larp, however I have played some table top. I have played many RPGs over the past six years including some that I and my friends created. I also often include in my RP experience that I have studied acting, and have participated in a wide range of performances form Shakespear to musical theatre to Opera.

The "Thanatos part was a stage name thing, but it can be dropped. And don't worry about the close parrallels, I know how to keep my real life and game life seperate. But if you would like, I can change the whole thing. But I would request to at least keep the band part going. That's the central idea to my character.

World Hackers... The name makes me thing of something out of Shin Megami Tensei or the Digital Devil Saga, both of which are creations of the same company that brought the Persona series RPGs to the world. Is there a connection in that or is this a completely original concept? You have me curious on this.

Oh, and thank you for the compliment. I love my work and I love it when others love my work too. And that is the most you'll hear the L-word from me unless I start working on some genuine drama.

Jeff Gordon (http://www.jeffgordon.com/) is a very famous name. He is a NASCAR driver. One of the better ones, though he is a whiney little baby. (Have stories that actually back this statement up.) And he his either loved or utterly despised by most NASCAR fans.

I'll post the main thread now, and see how this thing ends up. Everyone will start out somewhere within a main building, that building being the research lab. You'll al be going about your daily business, and I'll play al the npcs and narrate the story.

Height and weight: 6' 5" 175 lbs
Physical appearance: black hair, black eyes, extremely wiry, dark skin. Like black velvet with legs.
History: Savvy grew up a normal, happy life. Unless you count thirteen kidnappings in the first three years of his life, four attempts on his father's life, and several dozen on his mother's life before and after he was born. Savvy's mother was what could be termed a "professional witness" she had an unnerving ability to be at the site of a crime when it happened, and remain unnoticed. This made her an excellent witness, since she would always catch sight of the perp, and memorize his face. Savvy and his parents changed names and homes so many times during the course of his adolescence that he barely knew his mother's real name. When Savvy was 14, his mother was kidnapped, raped, and killed. This event left him traumatized, and led him to beat his father to death with a CPU (yes, it is possible). The body was never recovered, and no charges were pressed.
Outlook: You only think you know people. You never really know someone until they're dead
Occupation: Savvy is a professional 'entry man.' If you need a way into a building, Savvy will find it. He uses places with high security to keep his skill up. Then he steals the computers.
